This is a near perfect casual game. Hits the sweet spot for playability and retro vibes. Plenty of on screen "noise" with all the bullet effects, debris, etc.
Better for me, nothing really to learn, simple controls and gets you straight into the action. A difficulty level was a massive bonus too.
Can't really thing of a negative point here.
I really liked it! Fun and fast-paced! I went through it without losing and I though that it was impossible to lose but apparently that is not the case. A health bar would be a great addition to the game. Can't wait to see more!
Thanks for playing!
So, actually this game HAD a health bar, as well as a XP bar. But about halfway through development I thought that having only the temperature bar, and having it act as the health too, could be more interesting in the end. Since this was a jam game, might as well test weird stuff, right? π
Let's see if I end up adding a tutorial, I think it would a lot to make things clearer. Once again, thanks for the feedback!
Indeed! That is the great thing about Jams. Trying out new stuff and getting feedback for it!
The game is wonderful! I really like the visual. The gameplay is very dynamic. It's great that the game has a backstory. I don't know if it's possible to die, because I passed it without dying, even taking a lot of damage ^^' Great job, congratulations!
P.S. Is it okay that I one-shot the boss in the end? Played on normal difficulty, hmm
Welp, I think it's supposed to take at the very least a bit longer to die hahaha
I already fear the amount of balancing I will need to do in the future...
Thanks for playing and the feedback, glad you enjoyed playing!
Awesome amount of polish. I loved the variety of weapons and upgrades that were available. The combat was a lot of fun. I did have some difficulty seeing the enemy projectiles, but overall the art was absolutely stunning. Great entry!
I think some more blinking would make enemy bullets pop a lot more. To the tweak list for the possible next version it goes!
Thanks a lot for playing and leaving some feedback, really appreciate it!
Fun game! I'm not sure why I lost though since I don 't see an HP meter.
My bad for not including a proper tutorial.
The explanation is that your heat meter is also your health: taking damage raises it, and when you get into forced cooldown, any damage makes you explode. Glad you enjoyed playing despite this lack of clarity :)
That was really cool! The amount of polish was very impressive. Nice clean pixel art and good animations, enemy variety and overall vibe. The gameplay was a little confusing to me as I didn't immediately understand what effect being hit had, why shooting the shotgun felt so unreliable, what the pie bar above my head meant or why my attack kept changing when I picked an upgrade. It all eventually came together though so no real complaints!
I think the controls could be tightened up a tiny bit to _feel_ more responsive even though there's nothing functionally wrong with them. A little negative sound when first pressing the fire button when not able to fire or other small details like that.
All together an excellent entry and really quite fun. Great work!
Oh, the sound when pressing the button while cooling is a really good suggestion, you are right. And a tutorial would've helped with that initial confusion... not adding a proper tutorial has been a problem of mine for too long now, I really should've learned this lesson π
Really happy that you enjoyed the pixel art! Normally I only code the games, and a buddy of mine does all the artwork, you know. Our best games were made like this. However, lately life has been really eating up our free time, so I tried to draw some things and here we are... well, just a random story haha thanks for the feedback!!
Right from the menu screen you could tell this was going to be a good one! Really can't fault it, so well polished, art and audio work really well together. Amazing job! I must admit I did have to play on the easy mode though, haha.
Whoa, thanks!
This project was really difficult to finish for me π about 1/3 of the way I knew I absolutely missed the mark on the scope... like always! But this time I tried to cut the least amount of things, and man, it was quite stressful π but thankfully it appears that the end result is still quite enjoyable, as you said.
Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback as well.
That was fun! Played it to the end twice. Good visuals and design as well. The key remapping system and menu were really robust, too.
I liked that the game changed up my weapon every time I leveled up. I eventually had my favorites that I tried to swap between, but still - it forced me into some variety where otherwise I may just gravitate to one.
The controls didn't feel right to me for the real-time nature of the game, as I was having to tap my keyboard rapidly to get the movement I wanted. It also took me a few deaths to fully understand the risk and death mechanics. By the time I got to the end, though, the boss died very quickly if my weapon had penetration. I didn't realize I had won the first time when the screen went white. Lastly, there may be a bug with hitting enter to unpause the game while the upgrades are still open?
Great submission! You showed really nice attention to detail.
Playing a jam game twice is a really good compliment hahaha
Nice that you noticed the game forces you to change the weapons a bit. I thought that the player would most likely stick to just one weapon, but that way the gameplay would get stale really fast... so, I added that the player really needs to change their weapon, wanting it or not :)
And that's definetly a bug. The pause was added pratically at the last moments, so... yeah, should've tested it more. Adding a tutorial was certainly a necessity too, it would've helped a bunch of people to get the game faster.
Also, if you have any idea on how to make the controls better, I would really appreciate knowing haha might end up as another control style in the future, who knows.
Thanks for taking some time for playing and leaving feedback, really appreciate it!
I really enjoyed the art and sound, but i found it a bit hard to get to max heat to use my upgrade. Maybe im just stupid :D
Pfft, hadly. More likely I am for not adding a tutorial π
Thanks for playing!
Extremely beautiful game! Reminds me of the good ol' days of miniclip. Feels great, was a bit confusing at first but eventually I figured out the rhythm to it. Keep making games!
Very nice and polished! Well done!
Great game! Extremely polished, loved it. :)
the game is short, but it still has a good variety of enemies and upgrades.
and it is very well polished, I liked it a lot.
Nice job! I hope you continue to expand on this idea!
That's an incredibly polished game! I quite enjoyed this one :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
The polishing ended up taking most of the time by far... that, and the pixel art, since I'm really bad with drawing. Anyway, it was great (and stressful) to try new things :)
I really loved the feel of this game and honestly want a full version.
Wow, thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it so much!
Not sure if a full version will be made, but a post-jam version with more polish and taking into account everyone's feedback is more likely. It could have a bit of more content as well, so that the game lasts longer.
Thanks for the interest in a full version!
I can't believe you made this in 17 days! The level of polish is really impressive. Very juicy gameplay and a fun interpretation of the theme. Extremely good work
If I could go back in time, I think I would've made something simpler, you know? It was quite tiring to make this game be just like as imagined it... and still, a bunch of stuff ended up not making the cut π game development is so hard most of the time, you know.
But knowing that people enjoyed some of my games makes it a bit more worth it :) thanks for playing!!
