That is really cool!

I really enjoyed the boss battle, although it got a bit frustrating at times. When I figured out the strategy to farm overload in the star room, shoot primary attack for the first half and then spam secondary attack for the second half, it was much easier.

My main pain point is balancing. Mainly: low amount of i-frames, enemy being able to shoot you through walls and off-screen and enemies shooting at you as soon as you enter the room. But that could be solved with some minor tweaking, all the important stuff was spot-on!

BTW, was Risk Of Rain (the first one) an inspiration? The premise and graphics are similar. And the checkpoint/health restore objects remind me of Remote Caffeinator from Risk Of Rain 2

heavily cave story inspired wasn’t thinking risk of rain when I made it but I see the connections! I’ve played a lot of RoR so maybe it’s hiding in the back of my mind

Dude, this is sweet! It reminds me a lot of Cave Story, really cool in the same way!

Not that it matters much, but I did notice that the objects regenerated when changing levels before the level changes. Slightly distracting.

Crazy good. Best I have played so far. I like how the music doesn't really start until the "tutorial" level is over.

Only little tiny thing is the camera makes me feel a bit nauseous, if there was a setting to make it static I would be very happy.

I enjoyed the game, great level design and the overoverload is really cool

Very nice platformer. Stile, music works together and stages have done very well. The only problem I encounter is absence of remapping controls

cool platformer. but it was wildly inconvenient for me to control the movement of the hero with my right hand and shoot and jump with my left. I'm used to the logic of the gamepad.

This was a pretty challenging action platformer, although I'm one of those wasd movement guys, so I struggled until finally plugged in a controller and everything immediately clicked. One small change I would suggest to alter some of the difficulty is your iframe situation. I think giving the player more invulnerability time between getting hit would be nice. Right now if something lands on me I take a million damage in 2 seconds. Definitely a fun game though and loved the music and game progression.

Yes, thanks for playing, I designed it to be optimally played on gamepad, so I'm glad you tried it out that way! I am planning on doing a balance patch once the rating period is over, to increase iframes, add knockback, and tweak enemy and boss a bit.

Very cool game! I liked the art, the sounds, the gameplay mechanics and the level design :)

I just think the shooting mechanic would be cool to cross the platforms that the player can cross, it's common to be aligned vertically with enemies but not be able to shoot them.

Developer

I agree! I'll include this feature in my post-jam update.

This is a great submission, fun and really polished.

EDIT: wait this is your first jam? Great work!

Very nice game. Best of the jam I have played so far. Really liked the sound/music. Graphics are nice and game play is solid. Best part though is the difficulty, not easy by any stretch but not break your controller either. One suggestion especially for the last boss. Don't make the player farm to get max stars just start him/her their. After the 3rd or so try it was annoying.

Again great submission really enjoyed this one.

Cool stuff. The gun overloading is a nice mechanic, I wish I was better at dodging enemies haha. Feels very polished I am surprised this is a one man effort

Cool game. I love this looking up and down animation, it's soo cute but nice detail. I think iframes could be a little longer cause it's pretty unforgiving. Nice soundtrack.

Overloading your gun is a really nice mechanic, had fun.
