There is a lot to do in this game. I did run into some issues though. When the plutonium comes out, and you press 'e' again you will be stuck fishing for a while until and time keeps ticking. When I collected the 2 items (and newspaper confirmed all ingredients were picked up) and went to the house to craft nothing happened and I ran out of time. Lots of creativity in this!

Thanks for Playing and reviewing!

After you craft the neutralizing agent you got to move around to see the agent/potion in your hands. But I am guessing that the time ran out before you were able to move.

I like the premise of this game! The annoyance meter adds a nice bit of tension to doing the tasks and fits well with the game jam theme. The task system is solid and a good base to build on if you choose to develop the game further. The way the villagers wandered around the village was a nice touch.

That said, there is definitely room for improvement. Others have already pointed out the strange way the houses are placed, but I also noticed that the trees have a much smaller collision box than their sprites. Did you mean to set up Y-sort on the tree sprites? That would prevent the player sprite from rendering in front of the leaves. I also encountered a bug where object interaction text appears even if the objects aren't visible or interactable:

Overall, I liked the game. Good  job on the submission!

Yeah, while i was making the collision for the trees, I was definitely planning on adding Ysort to them, but I completely forgot about it by the end of the jam.

HOW DO YOU WIN? I thought I killed all of the chickens and I already let the fishing rod appear. Even fishing and ending my life in the village didn't help. The art was fun, but maybe there was a little bit too much chaos on screen. But that's fine in the chicken chaos, so there you have that. And the art is kind of weird sometimes, like no corner tiles, houses that are sideways, no animation for walking two directions. But besides that, great job!

Maybe I should have added better instructions along with the newspaper headlines. You have to complete both the tasks (chicken and radiation) to win. Chicken task will be over once you kill almost all the chickens which reproduced. For the radiation task, after the fishing rod appears, you have to fish by the dock, leading to plutonium appearing and spreading radiation. The task will be over once you craft and pour the neutralizing agent made of charcoal and algae(which you have to find in the village) in the river with the plutonium. Once you do both these tasks you win. Regarding the pixel art , i will probably fix it in an update.

Thank's, I now beat it. It feels good finally having it beat.

I like the idea of the game! The music fits that mischievous vibe, and it adds to the chaos how we play as someone who appears to be butt naked xD. The art was a little inconsistent but mostly good. Gameplay was fun, although a little confusing at times (I spent a while at the start wandering around the village not really knowing where to go). It was fun how the chickens erupted into mayhem, but once they reproduced I knew I was cooked. Nice job, great submission!

Great music and art! It fit the theme really well - the chicken's kept coming back lol.

I agree with others comments, the art style was good but the design of the houses was a bit odd, plus it would have been nice to animate movement that is in both direction (up/down + left/right)

Great game! Would love to see it again when you add more quests.

Thanks for Playing and Reviewing! Will fix the pixel art in a possible update.

I learned several things during my gameplay.

For example, I will never look at fishing the same way again!

The chickens stopped me from progressing on several occasions, but I appreciated this universe and this proposition!

Haha, Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!

I had fun with this! the quest can be pretty confusing, and the time limit seem crazy fast for radioactive fishing bit.. but overall I think it fits the theme nicely. well done.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for reviewing and playing! I agree that I should have added better instructions for the quests, and lowered the speed of annoyance.

Wow, that was fun! I really liked how everything just went mad so fast. The only quest I managed to do was the inital chicken quest, but then didn't find the sword (time was super tight). For the neutralizing agent, I found both ingredients, but wasn't able to craft them somehow.
Pretty nice concept, it would be fun to see this spiraling even further, good job!

Developer

Thanks for the review!
I realized that the annoyance rises way tooo fast for both the chicken quest and the fishing quest. The neutralizing agent can be crafted in the top right house of the map after you find both the ingredients.

Hi! The quests in this game were really awesome and theme was implemented good. Tunes were sweet.

Some things that can be improved:

  • Pixel art size should be same with main character and villagers
  • Houses should be rotated 90 degrees, facing down.
  • In one run I dropped fishing rod near watering can and I couldn't start chickens quest anymore.
  • It is really hard to find items and I never found Sword. Pickup text is visible even when quest is not started yet.
  • Newspaper stories should stay on longer, I barely had time to read them completely.

Good Job, had fun playing and I hope Sword is still out there somewhere : )

Developer

Thanks for the review and feedback! I was watching your stream while u played it.

I suck at art which is why the pixel art and houses were a lil irregular.

Regarding the pickup text, I forgot to make the pickup texts appear only after the quest starts, making them visible for all items. Meanwhile the sword, was the only item for which pickup text is enabled after the quest starts , which was the reason it became hard for you to find. (P.S - The sword cud be found to the left side of the garden after feeding all the chickens).

That bug with the chicken quest not starting is definitely weird tho 🤔.

Also good suggestion on the newspaper stories. Might upload a bugfix ticket.

Really gave me an open world vibe for a bit, but that's not how you draw houses from the side. Well done
