that was fun!
The game was really interesting, I have not seen the "mischief" side of Halloween in any other submission, so that's nice, the music really fitted here, although the sounds of npcs is a bit annoying. I would have liked a bit more headlines, but it was still cool to play.
Thank you so much!
Something different, yet not quite 😉
GAMEPLAY
It was something different to play in this jam, but also familiar. First of all: it is not bad to get inspired by another game and add your own twist to it but be aware that there’s a fine line between drawing inspiration and closely mirroring existing games. It does look a lot like "We become what we behold" and you added some features and that is good. Always try to add your own twist and style to a game. But it still does resembles that game a lot and that game is also open source so you want to avoid that people think you used that code in a little game jam.
That being said it was and is a fun concept of course and adding different figures and the headlines and a kind of story is a nice addition. It does takes some while before interesting stuff happens. Maybe speed that a bit up. But when things start to happen it was fun to take the pictures and choose the headlines.
VISUALS
Cute pixel-art / cute characters and the the camera view + zooming also worked nicely.
AUDIO
Audio music fitted the game well and the AI voice also. The laughing was sometimes a bit annoying but not so bad 😉
THEME
Theme was in it and also Halloween was checked.
Overall it was a solid jam entry 💪 (but keep the cautions in mind please)
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
I totally get what you mean. It is really a shame, it turned out to be that close to "We become what we behold" The initial idea was a 3 D first person cameraman simulator, actually. While brainstorming, I found it to be very hard given the short timeframe. So I decided to do it top down with a little cameraman who has to film interesting details, that didn't work that well, so I made it instead of filming people doing something, taking pictures of them. The cameraman was pretty fun to control, but it was hard to control him and make him able to take some decent pictures. So in the end I decided to remove him... probably an awful idea. I noticed the similarity to We become what we behold after the jam was over. I would have added more features, if I knew it was that similar.
Sorry for writing that much, but I thought everything just needed some clarification.
Again thanks for your feedback and time!
You're welcome and also thank you for the clarification 😊!
Interesting take on the theme all the elements worked well together . the killer looked both cute and scary at the same time. what did you use to create the voice over? Please check out my game too, I would love some feed back and a rating when you get some time. I did the voice over myself.
Thank you very much! I'll make sure to check it out, when I have some time. The voice was made using elevenlabs, and edited by me.
Interesting and unique concept. I'd love to see a "finished" version.
It reminds me of We Become What We Behold by Nicky Case! a lot. I found the sound a bit annoying but the music very fitting. Also you added a nice feature by letting the player chose the headline and by adding an intro ... So its a well done submission overall ;)
Thank you for your feedback! I added the sound effect, to make sure you can easily understand what is going on, but especially in the end of the game, you are probably right, there are just too many... I noticed how similar this was to the game you're referring to, after the jam ended, unfortunately. My initial idea was something completely different, so it is pretty sad for me to see how similar this turned out. If I had noticed that earlier, I'd have added some other mechanics as well. I didn't mean to copy or remake any game.
Dont be sad! And yes, I meant the Sound during the later Phase of the Game- maybe limit the it a Bit in the end. I liked the game nontheless.
It looks so cool and hectic. I love it! I also really like the little introduction and the music getting weirder and weirder as the game progresses is a really nice touch. Great game!
Thank you so much! This means a lot to me :)
Nice concept, would love to see where this game goes.
Thanks for your nice words :) Unfortunately, I didn't manage to finish it nearly as much as I wanted to. I might update it after the jam
What a fun idea! Is there progression after you snap a few inciteful pics? The art is gorgeous and the camera viewfinder is a fun mechanic. EDIT: I kept forgetting to add, but AI voiceovers are super off-putting for me. Maybe just personal preference, but I'd rather hear amateur voice work than something that sounds more like text-to-speech. Just adding that feedback in case it's insightful!
Thank you for playing my game! Yes, you'll have to take a photo of something interesting happening, choose a fitting headline and continue. Try some different headlines and photos out and the characters will start to interact differently with each other. There is even an end, once you take some important pictures.
Nice clone of "We become what we behold" next time do something more original
Thanks for your feedback, first of all. I just searched this game up and played it. I remember playing it some time ago. I definitely do notice, why you think it is a clone now :( It made me really sad, because for the first time in a jam, I was actually really happy about my original idea, since the game that turned out was completely different from the one I intitially wanted to create. Hope that sounds acceptable to you, I really didn't mean to copy from anyone or anything
I understand, i vouch for you to take this as a lesson for the future, the real world is much harsher and a developer that "copies" isn't taken seriously. This said good luck and kisses
Very fun!
Thanks a lot!
