Did you work in a team?
No, worked alone! A friend offered to write music for me, I should have taken that offer, but my mind was focused on finishing the game first. I have never done audio before, so next time I might just get a dedicated audio person :D

Was the resolution a challenge?
I used 64x64 resolution mode with PICO8, it was very challenging to make good 8x8 sprites on this scale, but I really enjoyed the process! Since the game is kinda fast, and the visual range is so low, I opted for a mini-map/radar for overcoming isolation. I'm really happy with the final look of the game.

What did you learn?
I'm never making a game that requires real time collision detection (if it's a jam)... I'm not good at math...
I vastly over-estimated what I can deliver, I didn't have time to playtest and it shows (the map is very cramped). I feel like next time I could come up with a more realistic scope for a game. I planned to have a tutorial for example, I felt it was very important, but that would have taken an extra day to code.

The visuals on this game (Especially the destruction and the dithered smoke coming from the destroyed hulk of my tank that I saw quite a few times) are top notch. The controls are actually pretty cool once you start to get the hang of them, but holy moly do I suck at this game. I literally cannot get to 99 seconds. I just run into walls get stuck overwhelmed and die, I do okay as long as I can kind of have good spacing and pick up monster hearts (Nice animation on the monster guts btw, the pulsating is a nice touch). The use of the low resolution available is really impressive, at no point did I feel like my view of the map was constricted, and the minimap was a fantastic way to distill critical information into a tiny package.

I think part of my problem is how small some of the paths are between structures I always just end up ramming into them, but this is totally a me problem the game itself is really well made and fun to play.

Awesome work.

The art is amazing.
Had some trouble with the movement of the tank as the controls were difficult to manage. I loved the animations of the crystal and of the hearts! Amazing Job!

Wow ! Unexpected complex tank control! 99 seconds not easy task )

Cool art and animations.

Good game! Maybe the controls are difficult at first, specially the turns. The graphics are simples and effectives, good job!!

The tank controls really felt awesome.  It really made me consider my next move.  It all felt so smooth, and I love your take on the pico palette!  Cool stuff overall.

Congratulations on making this game !

I've played your game during a live that you can watch here :

The live is timestamped so you can go directly to your game.

I hope the feedback and live reactions will be useful. Keep it up !

This is so brutal ^^ the best I ever got was 30 something seconds left. is it possible, did you beat it yourself? haha. Still a great little game :)

Thanks for playing! Nope, but a friend of mine did.

Great stuff, I really enjoy the way stuff breaks into pixels when it gets destroyed. I really like the background story of the cafeteria lady and the custodians commandeering the tank, in my personal headcanon while playing they were shooting biscuits from a giant tray they grabbed on their way out.

Lovely looking game and fun to play. I like the slow-turn mechanic - it confused me at first but after a few deaths I realises that I needed to strategise for it. Good work, SFAriel!

Great job using the screen resolution! It was fun zipping around in the tank and trying not to get swarmed. I agree, I was wishing for sounds as well ! Great game!

Nice game, the steering radius is a bit extreme and makes it really hard to be able to hit the enmies. Great to have a minimap to navigate. Some SFX would do great for the overall experience. Nice job, PICO companion :)

Graphics look great. I can appreciate the idea of the challenge being centric on learning to steer the tank, although that appreciation starts to drain out when the extremely hard to control/predict sightline of the tank starts to affect your ability to eliminate enemies (although you CAN hold down to keep aiming in one direction). Your base getting destroyed looks and works quite nicely. Minimap is a very helpful addition. It would be nice if there was music, or at least some sfx.

Cool little game, the controls took some getting used to (I'm terrible at aiming) but the artstyle was really nice. Good job!

Nice graphs. Love it.

I think the core challenge of this game is getting acquainted with its novel movement mechanic. I particularly loved the narrative tie-in that your character is someone who would have no knowledge about driving a tank :D Sprite work and animation are excellent. I'd love to see this expanded upon a bit. Great job!!
