I liked this, the learning curve was ridiculously steep. I went two rounds not even know what was happening then every round after that I won.
I would like to see the AI do a few things like also having limited ammo maybe we race for the fuel? things to shoot each other before fighting.
I would also like to see him dodge my bullets some times.
Really nice entry!

Pretty fun game overall, I think automatically pausing between rounds and allowing the player to hit a button to continue would be a nice addition. Other than that great job completing and submitting this game.

Easy to understand, simple and fun rules. They are so close to each other that it is difficult to avoid bullets or aim and shoot. I think it would be more fun if the enemy AI wanted to stay away a bit more. Love the message when it's settled!

Controls were a little wonky and I got instakilled a lot. Otherwise, a solid entry.

Check out my review of your game at https://www.twitch.tv/scalphamission

Hey Scalphie thanks for reviewing! I know the issues. Some of the decisions I made (starting close, shooting with inertia, etc.) were taken to balance the game, or it would be too easy to win. The enemy is obviously too dumb so he needs some advantages. It’s easy to escape from the instakill at start, you just need to move away. Besides, the enemy always starts in the same position so it’s totally predictable.

You can shoot directly just going away and coming back directly towards the enemy (which is very satisfactory) or… passing by him, or… getting a lot of ammo and just spinning the ship to create a bullet hell.

And you’re right, my ultimate goal it to move this to multiplayer

A fun game. Love the style. Sometimes getting instakilled can be an issue, but we just need to get good I suppose. Great job.

Overall a pretty fun game! Its fun to play and the music works well with it.

I feel like there's not enough grace time before damage can start. You can learn how to avoid it pretty easily but can be weird to people playing for the first time. Ways to fix would be to either spawn the player and the enemy on opposite sides of the field or just have 3 seconds where nobody can die.

The shooting happening based on movement and not ship direction doesn't feel that great. Its hard to gauge where your bullet will go if you're trying to move around quickly and its not very realistic since typically cannons will fire from one direction on the ship.

I found a slight bug if you survive for long enough in a round. The camera zooming in makes the movement center go off your ship which ends up making it hard to go the direction you actually want to go in.

I didn't really have any big difficulties with the enemy spawning too close. I won on my third game, which seems appropriate for a jam game, I think the difficulty is just right and it really feels like I learned to play the game. I did have a bit of difficulty grasping the way the shooting works. Does it shoot in the direction you are currently moving? If so that's an interesting departure from more typical mechanics where you shoot where the front of your ship is pointing.

Developer

Hey thanks for playing! About the close spawn, I agree that it may catch you the first time, but then it’s easy to move away as you learn. About the shooting, it just follow the same direction/speed as the ship, so it’s just inertia which I think it’s more challenging.

That's what I thought was happening, it's a bit weird and tricky, but makes for a rewarding experience. You could have explained it up front I think, because it doesn't feel very intuitive with the way the camera works. I think that's fine, but a fair warning would remove some of the disorientation.

So game is cool but it’s too hard to start playing, anyway that looks pretty cool for 1 day game!

Submitted

Interesting take on the limitation! I didn't do so well starting out, but that's okay. I think the player and enemy spawn a little too close together. I had a good laugh at my own skill when I went from getting "You Rule!" to "You Suck!" comments. Good work!

Submitted

I Couldn’t beat it it once. I was always insta killed :(. There was once was when I ended 4-4, close call.

Congrats, keep up the good work!

Submitted

sometimes you just get insta killed, but when that doesnt happen its fun!

Submitted

I think everyone already said that but yeah, sometime the ennemy spawn too close and instant kill you :'x

Otherwise, looks great and fun to play !

Submitted

Fun game! I do agree with the others, though, the enemy spawns a little too close! Looks great, though, the concept is cool and the use of the limitation was on the ball.

Great job on a successful submission :)

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks for playing! About the enemy spawning too close, it was a choice for balancing, because the player is always faster.

Submitted

As TurtleGamer1 noted, the enemy spawns way too close to you, it gave me a jump scare when I started the game ;-;

However, after the initial shock, it was fun! I like the background art and the general concept.

Not bad!

Submitted

Cool concept. Unfortunately the enemy just spawns behind you and sometimes can shoot before you can do anything. To fix this you could make the enemy also need containers to shoot.

Submitted

Enjoyed playing the game.  Considering it was made in a day, the art was descent.

I really liked the game and it fit the limitation really well, but it also didn't have anything to do with baking. Anyway it was a really good game although it was a little easy because the AI kept throwing itself out.

Developer

Thanks for playing it. About the baking, as the rules say the theme is just inspirational, what it matters is the limitation.

Submitted

Even though it's not baking related, I really enjoyed this one from a gameplay perspective. I did have to read the description to learn how to shoot and the CPU kills itself pretty quickly. With better AI, it would be more fun!

Developer

Hey thanks for playing! I know there are issues but I didn’t have much time to improve it. About the baking, the theme is just inspirational, what it matters is the limitation.

I know, I know… it’s not perfect. I just had a day, I have a life out there, you know? xD. It was the first time I used EasyStar for pathfinding but it’s far from being smooth.
