good
Great game, liked the concept and narrator's clues were dope.
Only issue was the game was too quiet. I think you should add some music or sound to the arrows being pressed. Or, maybe a narrator voice speaking doing a monologue on something.
Also, Purple arrows are evil :)
Hey thanks for trying it out.
I agree thanks for the feedback! With 9 hours to do the concept, I didn't have enough time to polish really much of anything but I'm already planning work on improving and iterating on the formula and definitely changing the visuals, audio, and adding juice to it :)
And yes, purple are the worst xD
I really liked the message! Nice job
“I like how at first I thought I could just spam the arrows to cheese it but that turned out to be a fake solution, I really like the message!“ - Elchamo
Thank you, yeah all it does is set you back a ton (time-wise). You rarely can brute force solutions in life.
And also even if you went through a level and mapped all arrows out, you can’t really input them all at once in the beginning…
The skip “gray” arrows have a random direction + you can only ever act against your closest visible obstacle, the one in the present.
So even if you’re sure of the direction to take, life always seems to find a way to present you with the unexpected…
And you can only ever deal with those if you’re fully committed to the present :)
(Copying this from the page comment you’ve made, some more context could help other jam guys understand a bit more in-depth what I was going for)
My god! That's awesome work in 9hrs. Learnings took me 4:23. Not proud to say it. Yellow are really tough. Also, so many variation of the same idea with such limited time. Great imagination!
Cool game, I like the Helldivers style direction input mechanic a lot! The monologue at the start was also cool and it subtly taught the gameplay without being obviously just a tutorial. Great job overall!
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I did try to make the metaphor work a bit too hard maybe ahahah. Thank you for trying my small submission :)
Very nice, it remembered me a little of Vib-Ribbon when it comes to combo of inputs to not fail, if you had time to make something, I think some background music would be very good with it.
oh my god Vib-Ribbon, I had completely forgotten that ps1 gem. I remember it from a demo disc I had. I definitely have to check it again!
Yes I think I’ll keep iterating on this concept game, for how simple it is, it still feels fun and with a more striking visual theme, music, and some game feel maybe I can make something more appealing and fun :)
Thanks for taking the time to play it, really appreciate it!
Awesome game! Fun and simple. I'd love to see where you go with this concept, I can see it really popping off on mobile.
Thank you so much! You’re not the first talking about a mobile game ahaha. I’ll make sure to work more on this concept after the jam and see how I can refine/improve the formula :)
this was awesome! i think if you added some sfx and ported to mobile this would be a hit with how addicting it is. my brother who doesn't play/like a lot of video games tried it and i had to pry the laptop out of his hands lol
That is so so encouraging thank you very very much. To be honest I was so afraid of this not being well received but everyone has been super supportive thank you!
a really cool, and good take on the theme!, love the idea, its simple but fun, sad there was no music or sfx!
yeah 9 hours was so hard to get everything done and I hate having sounds but no settings to control ahaha. Ultimately had to make do but thank you for your input, I’m looking forward to see what I can improve on next iterations, everyone has been super supportive and nice :)
simple concept, but fun and addicting! i like the tutorial stage alot because of what the narrator says about life, this is overall a pretty nice game for how simple it is in my opinion
Thanks a ton. Such a limited time frame I had to cut a lot of ideas, but I think it did get fun with the additional mechanics. Happy you enjoyed it even abit :)
Loved this take on the theme. Really fitting
Thank you, really appreciate the feedback <3
I had fun playing the game. Even despite losing I wanted to retry and go again. In the first level I was confused if there was anything I could do while the text was playing. But I really enjoyed the second level.
If this weren't a late submission - or otherwise looking to build more - adding more juice would be great.
Have the player be doing cool abilities/animations instead of just running past Black Gates. MUSIC! Have the inputs EXPLODE after you successfully input them. Make the player feel like they're running faster. Etc.
I think this was good fun and needs more time in the oven to be great :)
I'm not sure how you can go faster/slower but here's my times too!
So it's a bit hidden, but yellow arrows are mashable buttons, meaning you can repeat the input multiple times and it takes out 1 second every time you do so. So you have to control how much you want to mash the button without messing the rest of the inputs and before colliding with the wall.
That's why on the tutorial, the narrator says: ""Through dedication and intense repetition you will find the secret..." :)
Thank you for posting your times, 22 minutes is long though for the tutorial I wonder what happened there ahahah
It definitely didn't take 22 minutes! I was like WOAH when I saw that reported at The End lol
And here I thought I was a perfect programmer ahahaha. Thanks for the report!
Hey thanks for the ton of good ideas. Indeed there's a lot of Game Feel that's not here due to the extreme time constraints, but i'm considering adding them, I also think it would make it more enjoyable. Thank you so much for the encouragement!
