Gotta say, I think this might be one of my favorites out of the whole jam. I'm blown away by all the different monster designs. Music is great and it all feels like it could reasonably be an NES game. I did find an exploit where you can keep using the Fire Starter's third move over and over again and basically annihilate any threat in the game, but I'm not holding that against this game since it probably was already very hard to balance all the different monsters. Great job overall!

wow! incredible game for the short time span! exploring felt rewarding and the fights were fun. i managed to beat the volcano so far which is nice. just a few minor bugs i’ve found pausing during a fight does not disable input for the fight itself if a team member is defeated it still considers the team full but does not let me “replace” the empty slot with the new recruit i wish i could see which items were equipped. awesome job overall, well done!
"And so with the evil shadow" ...
I think equipping an item consistently makes the game crash, no big deal once you're aware of it.
The game is very fun. Every single monster looks super cool and given the context I think they're very elaborate which is quite a feat as they're also plenty of them. The soundtrack is great too. I like that with the right element a monster basically dies in one hit, I had plenty of fun making full use of the right elements, competely switching to a different full team of the same good element for each dungeon.
My only caveat that I'm mentioning only because the game is overall great would be that the trees, rocks, etc.. feel like they're built 16x16 and then resized to 32x32 which feels both a bit too big at all compared to the most traditional NES games so in the end the game doesn't completely look like those and also inconsistent with the characters on the map. No biggie, especially as once again the monsters during fights look amazing.
AW bummer, i was rekt by the exit button on both runs... but I had a lot of fun anyways!
First I got stuck in a corner and didn't know about the L debug mode. I thought Exit miiiight take me back to town to heal... but it was a game over screen you can't go back from. RIP. Then the second run I went a different route and started power leveling in the fire area. Accidental misclick on the exit button due to a sensitive DPAD on my controller and it was RIP # 2.
Even though I didn't get to experience the game in its full glory, I still had a really great time and appreciated the art and character design SO MUCH. Loved every little creature I encountered. Such a joy to play! I also appreciated all the effort in the UI and menus. Even the small details like not being able to use a potion when you're full HP, that really added a lot to how much went into this. I wish I could have saved my progress so I didn't have to restart a 3rd time, otherwise I would have totally played more :)
Hope you keep going with this I'll definitely be back for future updates :)
AMAZING WORK!!
I played until my creatures were around level 30, then it crashed. If it helps, It was when I used the last item in the inventory, and when I got back to the menu, it was pointing at the last position where the last item was.
Anyway, I liked the game a lot, I'm impressed by how much you did in 2 weeks.
Wow this was such a good game! The creatures were super creative and the type matchups made a lot of sense, I especially thought the ones that were different from the Pokémon matchups and your explanation of them were really fitting. Really great job, I kept playing this after like 5 hardlocks 😂 To get nitpicky, maybe an option to run in the future and a bit more attention to detail with the sprites and backgrounds all being pixel matched to each other (also yea couldn’t equip items lol) but this was sooo good for a jam you made such a great monster-catcher in such a short amount of time.
Unfortunately I got stuck in a tree in the forest and couldn't continue. I'm not a huge fan of the mixed pixel resolutions when walking around (even though that's probably more NES-accurate), but the monster art and attack art is so cool and quite varied! Also the soudntrack is fantastic and high-energy
Congratulations, I don't know how you managed to create a pokemon-style game in such a short time, I really liked the game and it has varieties of monsters too, I liked it a lot.
I just LOVE Ignus. I always prefer the fire tpyes haha. Its suuuper cool you have so many different monsters. Really well done. First time I ran into a boss unprepared tho, because I thought its just a big guy that wants to talk to me haha. I see myself picking this game up again and playing it, because its so much fun. Really, really great submission.
