Great game! Well done!
The mechanics are very good and quickly understood with the first levels. Honestly, I liked it a lot and it doesn't become annoying or tedious. The graphics add even more to that NES aesthetic, and the music is very good. It is a very enjoyable game to play.
very interesting puzzle mechanics!
i enjoyed playing quite a few levels and seeing how i could trick enemies to help me. pretty cool. faster level transitions would certainly help when restarting and changing levels though. i see some good potential in more diverse movement patterns breaking away from chess too and levels being tied to these a bit more. super unique, i enjoyed it.
Really fun little game! The movement is a bit tricky but I think it adds a bit of franticness to choosing the right square. Not a huge issue as the game tells you which squares to go to but seeing something in the UI telling the player which chess piece they are in that level would be nice. Good work!
I congrats on beating this games'd! I loved the concept, the chess-style movement was really cool. I especially liked how certain robots had two functions in the same level, like blowing up a wall then pushing a switch. Letting the player pick which piece to move as so they have to figure out the correct piece for the puzzle could add another layer of complexity (though I suppose Queen would always be the correct pick!) Loved the knight levels especially, I'm a big knight fan. Has a great old-school puzzler vibe.
Wow, this is really cool. I particularly liked the real-time aspect of the puzzles and the scene transitions.
"Congrats on beating this game!"
I'm always impressed by people making puzzle games, the 12 levels are very different and I had ton of fun solving every single one of them. The game looks and sounds good and could totally be a NES game, the presentation just as the gameplay.
I got to admit the game concept of James Chessbound is really amazing and put together really well into the game itself. The gameplay is also really amazing because it's like an action puzzle kind of game where I have to pick a cursor to go and time it perfectly to avoid the enemies and the water. The graphics and audio fit with the game's theme really well. Although, I had a lot of trouble of getting past level 4 though but I love the difficulty spikes between the levels. It makes the game feel very rewarding to play even if I couldn't complete all 12 levels. Great job!
I think that I made level 4 too unclear, anyways, thank you so much for playing and giving feedback! I really appreciate it
Cool concept, and it feels authentic! It would be nice if everything animated faster, so I can give it another try sooner when I screw up. The difficulty spike on level 5 is a bit high, I couldn't figure my way around that one.
Thank you! I tried to keep myself within the limitations of the NES as much as possible while making the game. As for the animation, I guess I'll have to make it faster, or maybe I could add a speed setting or something like that.
Spoiler for level 5: you are supposed to move once and wait for the tiny robot to crash into the spikes and explode, and then you can press the button and wait for the bomber to destroy the wall
I like the puzzles! something about the controls isnt right, i just kept scrolling up and down the screen with the arrow keys, mouse didnt seem to work for me lol
Thanks! I didn't see that, I'll try to fix it if I can
no worries man, we would also greatly appreciate it if you could leave a rating for our game if you havent already! https://itch.io/jam/nes-jam2024/rate/2764950 Thanks!
