Congratulations on the 1st place ranking!

Developer

thank you!!! Honestly!

This was deeply upsetting to read, which means you did a fantastic job!

Also, there's no way that this wasn't inspired by Halo, right? Especially the part where he kept repeating his name and rank. Big Jenkins vibes, too.

Regardless, this was very well written and super spooky!

Developer

oh this was 100% inspired by Halo, I think the Infected Colonies scream “Flood” way too much for me not to have dipped into similar storytelling. I was 100% inspired by Halo CE, yea.

I am really glad you enjoyed it though!

Very evoking. Great read.

The hive mind bit was kind of cool, but the bit where it seemed to matter that it was trying to sell the guy on why it felt the God-King lied to humanity was unexpected. I do like the idea of GDF's Alien Hives breaking away from the GW Nid idea of them being just a smart all consuming swarm.

The Dark Elf Raider involvement as having 'made a deal' with the Alien Hives also hints at them being able to be negotiated with at all too. I like that.

Developer

I’m really glad you enjoyed the piece! The story actually is about the Infected Colonies Faction instead of the Alien Hives. Noctifer was the personification of the plague’s will in a Necromorph/Flood type fashion. The Plague as a whole has a gestalt consciousness based out of the Dead Planet named Noctifer, which has intelligence just because of the amount of biomass infected by the plague itself.

it has a vested interest in breaking the spirit mentally first before taking it into the horde, easier conversion and more of the host’s personality survives to be blended into the greater whole.

The Noctiferian Plague views the sector as cattle to manage and cull, if it can help other factions in exchange for more biomass or weaponry it will. Saves it from wasting bodies in a direct fight.

Ah, I often confuse the two because of the GW Tyranids and Genestealer link.

Was it Spehss Elves though doing the questioning or something else?

Developer

The voice inside of Dimitrios’ head was exactly that, a voice inside of his head. It was the Plague itself trying to wear down his resolve.

Its so good, I love the repetition of it, the lost of every part its so good at a psychological horror

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I'm happy you liked it!

"...bloodied fat rain..." was the exact moment I knew this was going to get interesting. I was not disappointed. Skillfully done sir!

Developer

thank you so much! I’m really happy to hear you liked it!

Very well written! I'm not much into body horror so it was a bit hard to read all of it, but still really good. I really liked how you used the theme!

Developer

Thank you so much! I knew it might be hard for some folks to stomach, but thank you for pushing through anyways!

Very well done, it’s funny but it seems so far a lot of us are giving the Dark Elves the bad rap as an inciting event LOL. Agree with the nice use of the mind as the thematic device.

Developer

I think it’s mainly because as a raider faction, they’d do things for pretty much any reason.

thank you for the kind words!

at one moment i was even expecting the soldier to shoot himself before he turn completly into the hive, really spooky stuff

Developer

Glad you liked it!
In one of the rough drafts he attempted that, but I decided it was too gory for the piece.

For the record, it wouldn't have killed him. He was too far infected for mortal wounds to matter anymore

This was the first story I read due to your early submission and I feel it really set the bar high for the rest of us!

I'm genuinely curious for more-- I'd love to imagine what a scene of negotiation between the Dark Elves and Plague would be like in your writing.

Developer(+1)

Well I'm glad you think so well of it! Everyone wrote very well, I've loved what I've read from you as well!

Depending on what the next Jam is, and even if it doesn't fit, I was planning on writing consistently on the lore for the Noctiferian Plague! I'm really happy you're showing interest.

Thank you!

Such a great way to adhere to the theme: not letting something into a physical space but one of the mind, brilliant!

Developer

That means a lot to hear! I'm really happy you enjoyed it!

That was delightfully creepily horrifying in all the right ways.

Thank you so much!
