Description
We imagined the game Sojourner: an arty, introspective platformer, with a similar feeling to GRIS or Journey.
After she starts taking new medication for her insomnia, Kimono Girl goes on a fantastical journey through the worlds of her dreams. Each track represents a different location she visits, and a different stage in her personal journey.
Each of us had a different workflow; some composition was done in Musescore, some in Ableton, some at the piano. Some arrangement and all mixing/mastering was done in Ableton.

SOJOURNER
The meds were working. After months of unrelenting insomnia, you could finally get some well deserved shuteye. But your dreams... what the heck was going on with your dreams?
The doctor had mentioned something about a REM rebound, whatever that was supposed to be. But every night, the visions dancing behind your eyelids grew more vivid, the colors more vibrant, the sounds and sensations more vigorous. And each morning the memories stayed salient, almost beckoning you back to bed...
And now you're there. And where is there? Why, there is here of course! You've been fully incorporated inside what you thought was your own head. And in your head is... an entire world.
Lush forests, an alien yet familiar sky, watercolor oceans, non-Euclidean architecture, geology that defies gravity, all connected by the astral aether that permeates this entire scape. There are creatures here too, many you recognize, even more that you don't.
Something is tugging at you, though. Because here feels more real than what you've always known as real. Images from your past sometimes slip through, but it's not always your past. And you're starting to realize that you might not be entirely alone here, either.
So where has the waking world gone? Why are you here and what is this all supposed to mean? As far as you know, the only way out out of this is through it, so in search of answers, you begin your sojourn...
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I think it's got the right vibes.

Oh... long soundtrack...
I LOVE LONG SOUNDTRACKS!
This night I listened to it in its entirety, and now I want to give a short but very emotional review, in which I will try to put all my attitude to your great work and specifically to this soundtrack, which is done at a high level of quality, has an unforgettable chill atmosphere and feels in harmony with my soul...
...good
Heh, thanks!
Beautiful and immersive, especially with the ambient samples! Archipelago's my favorite, it has a great piano! Nice work!
Love the rainstick sounds!
Truly evocative. It transported me to the world of Kimono Girl!
Ashes, my favorite one. The sound design and cello lines combined created a nice sense of mystery that was great to listen.
Amazing job!!
Before getting into the music - the artwork is really pretty and eye-catching. I'm already getting some expectations set up as for what it might sound like.
Really nice orchestration throughout - I dug the hell out of Aquatic and had to give it another 2 listens back to back. Great choice of chords and utilization of the space between to fill them with some reverb goodness and a bunch of ear-candy to keep the piece moving.
Each track feels very purposefully arranged - I didn't personally encounter instances of finding any two or more to be too "same-y". Where Aquatic focuses on meaningful chords, the likes of Astronomy hones in on whimsical, progressive melodies. Ascetic's use of synth driven melodies and leads is a really nice change of pace and sound, compared to the (absolutely gorgeous) string lead found in Arboreal a few tracks prior.
A track such as Ashes, laden in ambience and a nearly ominous, foreboding sense of dread lingering, compared with something like Awakening, which is packed with whimsy, delight and a resolute sense of freedom, existing in the same soundtrack without sounding out of place or as though they've been composed by someone else is a real feat.
Really gorgeous mix. Think this might be the one that takes the cake for me in terms of leaning so heavily and successfully into the theme. Clever use of track titles also - the prevalence of beginning with "A" and the choice of words befitting each individual track content is well done. Great work, and best of luck - this was fantastic.
Really nice compositions I really like the sound effects you guys add throughout the tracks it really adds a atmosphere. Great Work!
Nice work from the 3 of you! I'd have to say my favorite is Arboreal, but I am impressed you guys made such a cohesive tracklist with several different composers. That's tough to do sometimes, but you guys nailed it.
I would play this imagined game and I would enjoy listening to the soundtrack while doing so.
I really like the "Ashes" composition. And "Asleep" even though it is only 18 seconds long. Very tastefully done.
Damn, well done mate ! Great compositions and atmosphere, loved it ! Had a dreamy feeling to it, very touching !
Agree with zClappj, great atmosphere, and I like a lot of the sound design you used to make it. The cello/bass stands out to me, especially in 'Ashes of Sojourner'. Really cool concept for a story too!
Fits the theme very well, I think the songs are very cohesive and they create a nice dreamy atmosphere. Incorporating a real piano was a nice touch, it gives the album that touch of humanity that fully digital music lacks sometimes. I also like the fact that all of the tracks start with A, it's a nice touch. My favorite song on here is Ashes.
Good work!
