The game has a simple and fun gameplay loop. The UI and overall aesthetics are wonderful with a well integration of the theme.

Simple and clean. Great implementation of the theme. The shop adds some nice opportunity for strategy. Love it!

Super fun and addictive gameplay loop with amazing game feel. Fits the theme perfectly as well. The scoring system wasn't immediately obvious to me at first, especially the way "interest" is calculated. Maybe a short tutorial or how-to-play page might help with that. Overall really well polished for a game jam. Well done!

This game is addictive and fun. I don't know how you balanced it, but every time I failed I wanted to try different strategies and get further. The game embodies the theme, as you can buy more dice, but that alone isn't enough for long. Or you can save, but if you save for too long you're also screwed. Or i you spend all your money on extra rolls then eventually you just can't continue if your dice can't get to the target.

Super cool and simple but still sooo fun lol, well done

Simple and addictive...I need help breaking away lol. The style and sound was also very pleasing to the brain. One thing that pained me was that while trying to reroll some dice, they'd knock into others and change their value T_T. On one hand, the surprising added risk was kinda funny, but logically I'd want to roll my dice away from what I'd set aside.

Great game and very addictive! The UI and general aesthetics of the game is also very well done and it feels very rewarding to try and strategize whether you want more dice, or save and gain more interest. All in all, fantastic game!

The font and art style are absolutely perfect. Reminds me a lot of Balatro in its addictive game loop.

This game makes me feel like I am gambling. Perfect execution of the theme

There is no denying that the THEME was executed well on this game 👌.

It never gets boring, not a little bit. That is ensured by the great UI, sound, animations and colorful graphics.

This is the kind of game I can keep playing for years.

Overall, a very exciting and fun game to play 💯😁.

Visually appealing whilst being gloriously minimalist.

I got frustrated with dice that indicated numbers mid-roll, as they were clearly moving after a number was shown? Felt a bit off, maybe if the roll was simulated & calculated beforehand it made sense, but not for something that seems physics-based.

The coupons and such were also misleading, seems like passively effective, as the tokens are…

I enjoyed it, though scaling was off on my screen (compared to others’ screenshots) and the text, buttons and UI elements were incredibly small and hard to read. (Might be linked to resolution rather than window size).

Lots of potential here, though!

Enjoyed the minimalist styling. Gameplay had a nice difficulty curve where the tension ramped up but not too too fast. We enjoyed playing it. Three thumbs up

Surprisingly addictive! Great work on the look and feel, it has a ton of appeal with such simple design!

HIYA!
Amazing jam game, well done!

  1. Juice is epic
  2. game loop is very simple and I knew what I was doing right off the bat.
  3. The randomness can kinda screw you because its DIRECTLY linked to money. The balatro loop is that you are rewarded for completion, not for how much you complete it by. So the dice have a positive feedback loop with your growth, which can cripple you (or make you op).
  4. That being said you have some great mechanics to combat this, the rerolling is amazing and super strong. Took me a second to see that you could buy at the shop.
  5. It took me ages to figure out that I could sell dice (even though it was a bad move)

Obviously this stuff would get better with balancing and tutorialization. Seriously had a good time playing this, great game

Thank you for the kind words, Ben!

Earning money by rolling above the target is an important mechanic because it incentivises the player to reroll for a higher amount (and higher payout) even when they've already rolled enough to meet the round target.  There is a risk then, of course, of rolling lower than your current roll and missing the target entirely, so it is a calculated gamble on the player's part. This is where the "midnight staircase" part of the jam's theme comes in. Does the player keep rolling to attempt scoring higher, or "get off" with their current roll?

If I continue working on this post-jam (which is likely), I think I'll change this to align with feedback you and other people have provided, because it does just break completely once you get enough dice and the game becomes impossible to lose.

  • Graphics and audio are very clean.
  • UI sounds are quite satisfying. Very polished and well executed. The game is quite intuitive.
  • Fitted well with the theme.
  • Could be neat to have more emphasis (like a specific sound or graphical effect ) when you get a max dice roll and when going over the target.
  • Would be nice if one could drag to select the dice (by round 14 I had 19 dice)
  • The any 8 or 6 rolled counted 3 times is very powerful and snowballs very quickly.
  • Once you get sufficient money and dice I don't know if it's possible to lose as you can buy re-rolls using your interest and your money never goes down. By round 14 I had $256 44 re-rolls and 19 dice.
  • Would be interesting to scale the risk reward with the amount of money and dice the player has. Perhaps adding something to get the player to wager or spend more money or even dice the better they are doing so there is a risk of losing it.

Thank you for your considered review! I agree with all your feedback/observations, and I think you've got some very nice ideas here. I will make a post-jam version and address some of the balance issues.

Really cool mechanic and looks and plays so smoothly!

spent an ungodly amount of time playing this. it's a lot of fun, and the graphics are so clean 10/10

  • Immediately intuitive and easy to understand
  • There's generally a lot of polish, but a little more feedback/juice on the counting and hitting/missing the target would be cool. Think Balatro levels of juice :)
  • I didn't visit the shop for first 2 rounds. Was nice to get interest, but I also missed seeing some cool stuff. Maybe make that a forced step or add it to the screen so it isn't behind a click
  • I didn't realise how the 50% off coupon worked and that I had to activate it. I thought it was a passive
  • I expected reroll to be the opposite: click to lock dice and the others reroll
  • I thought rerolls were for each round, not consumables. I would be more keen to use them to try push my luck and boost my score higher
  • The bonus cash for overshoot made it a bit too easy. Buying more dice is almost always the right move as they pay off quite quickly. If the bonus cash was limited a bit more it would make the decision more interesting, like get 2x the target to get a flat $2*round bonus
  • Wild idea, but what if your next round target was what you got the previous round?
  • I stopped after getting to round 15. Had more dice than I can count and it was getting laggy. It was pretty fun up to this point, I had just escaped the curve
