How does your game apply the limitation (and optionally, the theme)?
The diving competition has you on the edge of becoming boss of the public pool! Plus, the closer you are to edge of the diving board, the better your score!

Love the idea, but I couldn't get the hang of the controls. I read both the in-game tutorial and the one on the itch page, and I still don't get it. Sometimes it jumps twice, sometimes it doesn't. I couldn't pull off any poses, possibly because I'm not diving properly? Not sure.
I liked the presentation. The ambient water noises are nice, the graphics are cute, and the set up is nice.
I'm a Boss A-- Diver!!!
This was a really enjoyable jam experience. Snack size fun! Just the right level of challenging with enough juice to make me want to try again and again. The successive sfx increases during posing and jumping on the board were really well executed.
This was one of the most clever takes on the theme I've seen so far. The art and animation is cohesive and really well put together.
A few recommendations to consider:
- The water noise was repetitive and too loud, even if you set a choose() function and had the pitch and timing alter slightly before each new loop began then it wouldn't have been so noticeable.
- After a poor dive, or even a decent one, as a player I just wanted to get back to the start of the ladder and make another attempt. The judge scoring animation was charming the first time, after that, if the player pushes a key you should be able to skip straight to the score.
- Along those same lines, when I went to retry it was a pain to use the mouse again every time. You could have tied the right action button to Main menu and the left action button to retry, so I never have to take myself out of the zone.
Overall, really fun and quick play. One of the many gems of the jam! I also appreciate you taking the time with the opening cutscene to give me more motivation to perform well! Awesome work.
Out of curiosity, what's your high score?
thanks for taking the time to write such a cohesive review! i agree with all of your feedback, and thanks for thinking of things i hadn't considered. i'm working on expanding the game and will definitely be implementing your feedback for a "fuller" release
my high score is 28.4, so i think you got me beat! good job!
Can’t wait to try the update! And don’t sweat the score, some users obliterated my hi-score in my own entry.
Nice game! Amazing visuals and I felt that the music complemented it really well. Took a while to get used to the controls and mechanics but it was a very pleasing experience after. Also loved how the scoring system of the judges were corresponding to the performance in game, which made it feel more real. Great Job!
Yeah a little hard to play, but interesting! I would add a restart function, if you fail plenty of times the jump, you don't really need to see the judge cards again!
But quite original!
really well made game love the idea and the mechanics but it seems like you forced the them of the jam on to this game like you wanted to make this game but didnt work with the theme but still a fun little game
thanks for taking the time to check it out! i can see the disconnect there a bit, but it was the jam's requirements and theme that sparked the idea for the game framing and mechanics. i think trying to come up with something too unique had me stray a bit too far into that disconnect territory
Pretty fun to play around with! If you expanded upon this, it would be a really great little game, nice job!
I believe this needs to be develop for mobile and if you expand the styles or unlock moves you might have something very special here. I had a lot of fun and see potential.
thanks! i'm actually working on expanding the game this week. i'm working on implementing competing against specific NPCs to beat in a sort of "campaign" mode
Nice concept and presentation. I like the cute art and sound and how the three judges rank you differently. It feel s a bit weird that just spamming gives you the best result opposed to timing it for when the last animation stopped or something. I think something like that would be a nice challenge too.
Great game, I really enjoyed it. Well done!
Hey! To be fair, it's very hard to play (or I'm super bad at it). But the art, animation and sound are very cool! That's also a very unique interpretation of the jam theme/limitation which is super cool.
Unique concept and love the little ranking system - managed to get the second jump and make it to employee but couldn't figure out the timing for how to do the styles. Overall, great gameplay loop and cute art too!
Nice interpretation of the theme. I must admit I found it a little difficult to get the jump right but good job!
Couldnt get the timing right on the second jump so idk how the diving was but the rest of the game was good and a unique concept! nice job
try mine out https://itch.io/jam/vimjam2/rate/1200495
The pixelart is really nice, and I like the sounds. However, the gameplay is really confusing. Maybe you could use some of the intro sequence to explain how it works?
Man this game was awsome, I just got a big smile in my face when I managed to do the big jump with all of the styles manouvers, really rewarding, man nice game cheers!
Nice Core Gamplay Loop
I laughed really hard when I saw that if you jump before moving to the end of the diving board, you miss the pool! Good job!
i think this is one of the most original concepts i've seen for now in this jam, the game is pretty easy after you figure out the right time to jump. also the art stile is pretty nice! the only critique is that the gameplay is pretty short
thanks for taking the time to check it out! i'd love to hear any ideas on extending the gameplay.
i had an idea for watching NPCs dive before the player takes a turn and just needing to beat their scores to progress, and then each diver would be better and harder to beat, but i ran out of time to implement it.
Really like the art and everything technical feels solid. I can't seem to style or anything though after jumping and have no way of actually jumping off the edge of the board without just running off.
thanks for the feedback! i don't like making excuses for myself, but realized too late the instructions / controls were unnecessarily... unintuitive
once you done climbing the ladder. tap left/right to start walking, and then tap up to start jumping. you'll need to time pressing jump 2 more times after that just before you hit the diving board again to spring into your dive. then you just spam up, left, and right to start styling
Ah I see, I thought the instructions were saying to hit jump twice before you hit the water. That makes more sense. The game is quite fun!
