Super polished and I genuinely think your art here is 5/5, I love the way you used the mechanic and absolutely will show this game to some friends!

Submitted

Very nice visuals, love it. Although the controls felt kinda weird from time to time.

Submitted

I really like the game, simple concept that is well executed with easy to control and unique movement. I also like the colour scheme you went for and the death effect is a nice touch :)

Submitted

There's some cool stuff in there. Lots of potential.
The art wasn't bad, but I'm generally not a fan of mixed pixelart scales.

I'm impressed- this was a very polished game, especially knowing that everything for this game was made by you in 3 days! I liked the player death effect and the movement controls made this game feel a lot more unique as well. Good job!

Woah, this is really cool! You made this game look so polished! The take on the theme is quite interesting and the physics-based movement really switches things up. I think the only thing is the movement felt a bit slow sometimes, but being able to build momentum helps a lot. My only regret was that there wasn't enough. Really, well done!

Developer

Thank you, I worked hard to make it polished. I would certainly improve the movement speed given the chance. I worked hard to make sure the graphics and the music fit the style I was aiming for.

Thank you for your Review!

Music and visuals are great! I have played similar games in this gamejam, but this one had more fluid gameplay because you didn't have to restart the whole level, instead you restarted from the obstacle were you failed. Makes the game much more fun :) Nice Job! :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you! A lot of games have incorporated the same idea of using your corpse as a means of progression (I thought it was unique at the time of making it, but a lot of people had the same thoughts!). I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I also have not came across a game that has a checkpoint at each danger area. I am really glad you liked it.

Thanks for your review!

I love how the cube can rotate, the visuals are also great, I like that greenish color palette you chose there! :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks. I love the color palette too, its from the original Gameboy!

I'm a fan of games that wear their inspirations clearly on their sleeves but not too slavishly as to clone them entirely; something this game does, very well. A Gameboy-esque physics platformer with a lot of charm; short, but sweet, but I enjoyed every second. Nice work! <3

I had some trouble moving backwards, probably because it takes a while to stop going forward first and then more time for the cube to start spinning the other way.

I think very subtle mid-air control might be nice (like being able to start slowing down or speeding up using wasd).

Overall, the visuals and sound were the star to me. Not sure if you made them for the jam, but they fit well together.

Developer(+1)

Yes, the controls definitely need some work. I tried adding midair controls, but I couldn't get it working exactly how I wanted to. If I were to continue on this game, i would focus on that.

I made everything during the jam and for the jam, including the graphics and music.

Thank you for your Feedback!

Very fun game, I love the player movement and the fact that the cube can rotate, it feels very nice, also the restart transition is awersome, very fun to play!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you like the movement; I think it still needs some work though. Next time I will make the cube feel less sluggish. I am glad you enjoyed the game.

Thanks for your feedback!

Pretty nice, i like the retro atmosphere and visuals, i knew that some people will go for the  "when you die your corpse is a platform" type of game, I just wish the controls were better, once i jump it makes me keep going even when i try to stop it, and it makes it hard to pass levels ;)

good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, thats some very good feedback. I'm glad you like the look of the game, I worked hard this jam to get that to work. When I was making the game I thought that the idea was unique, but soon realised it was not !  The controls is certainly something I would improve given the chance, I absolutely agree that the character controls need some work.

Thanks for your Feedback!

To me if felt like just another corpses stay after you die game, i would've liked to have seen a more original twist in the idea

Developer(+1)

At the time of making the game, I thought my idea was unique, and I slowly realised it was the most common idea in the game jam. I would choose a different idea given the chance.

Thanks for your Feedback!

Very nice game! I really like the graphics and the sounds! Great Job!

Thanks! I worked hard to make it look and sound right. I am glad you appretiate it.

Super cool concept. The green colors works really well, and I like the particles! Maybe you could make the movement speed a little faster?

Overall a good game with good polish!

Developer

Thank you ! I stuck to the 4 original coloursof the gameboy. I think it turned out pretty nicely.
Yes the movement is something I have recieved a lot of feedback on, it is certainly something I would do differently given the chance.

Thanks for your feedback!

The very slow movement and jump arc, and the lack of air control makes the game not feel particularly good to play.

its a great start, but you should look into platformer "game feel" for your next project

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. Yes the movement is definetly the top priority for this game. I tried to make i a little bit more realistic by adding weight to the box, but that clearly didnt work out. I would do it properly next time.

Thanks for playing!

The assets are really well done. I especially like the (relatively) rigid adherence to the 4-tone green aesthetic of the Gameboy and the chiptune to go alongside it (did you use a tracker? It sounds great!) Aside from a few nitpicks (cubes accumulate on the death barrier in Level 3, enemies can't be killed between deaths), I really only have one major piece of constructive criticism - either the game is really slow or it's not well optimized for low-end hardware. I played through this on a Core m3-8100Y w/ Intel HD 615 integrated graphics and the game felt like it was running at roughly two-thirds - half speed. An options menu to disable certain post-processing effects would be a welcome addition if you continue to resume work on this game.

Good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your in-depth feedback. I am really glad you liked the style. (Good job on recognising the colours originating from the 4 gameboy ones). I worked hard to make the look and sound feel right, the music was made in Fruity Loops Studio using a NES VST and composed completely by me for this game.

Ah, thank you for pointing out that the game is not running smoothly. I didnt test it with Unity's profiler and I had no idea how well it ran on lower end hardware. The code is a little quick and messy, but I didnt expect it to slow down lower-end hardware. I'll look into this for the future.

Thank you for your review!

Very well designed game, the graphics have their own identity, its not a simple blank square like other ;)

Maybe it was a bit long to stack cubes up in order to climb but very nice game :D

Developer

Thank you! Thats very kind feedback. I worked hard on the look of the game, i am usually much worse at art so I was pleased with the outcome.

Thank you for your feedback!

Cool concept and look but the controls are a bit hard

Developer

Thank you. Yes I think I need to work on the controls for the cube, I agree its very hard to move (especially backwards).

Thank you for your comment.
