Fantastic game, love the simplicity of a candle in the dark. Controls were tight. The music perfectly fitted the game. Felt like there was some enemy saturation at times but other than that lovely work!

Developer

Thank you, i tried to spike up the difficulty towards the end by puttong more enemies, becuase you have a limited vision i had to put larger amounts so you could have actually seen them.

Thanks for the feedback!

Pretty nice game. Wish there had been more usage out of the shrinking mechanic. Seems like I only had to use it once at the beginning and then it never really came up again. The graphics are adorable and the music fit very well. I also found it a bit odd that you could see the grey platforms when they weren't lit up, but not the purple blobs. I think it'd be less jarring if either both the grey and purple were semi-visible without the light, or both weren't. Overall, well done!

Thanks you, I put some placed which you do need to use tye mechanic ( some jumps the you are to high to jump over, or the short tunnel that was filled with shooting enemies.) but probably i could have used it more :)

Also i chose to make the platforms visble outside the light so that was you arent complitly blind, it makes it so that you still know where to go, but dont know what rnemies hide there.

Thanks for the feedback and for checking out my game.

Good game, but the dead bodies don't seem to do anything, and dying is still bad I don't get how it fits in the theme but overall great game.

Developer

The dead bodies light up the way, alowing you to the the enemies better.

go team leaving lights behind on death :)

simple and effective, would have been nice to have some more uses of going small though

Submitted

Pretty game! But it feels that being smaller(have lower health) is useful only for height. I would be cool with you were fast small of the fire you burn would we so hot that it damages enemies

Submitted

Really nice game! the character is really cute

Very nice, but quite challenging for me. Also sometimes enemies can spawn so close to me that I have almost no time to react.

Here's my game:

Good game!

i don't really like the jumping is a little bit floaty, but it's a really cool idea, my game it's nothing compare to this! :')

Wow, this is really good! Basically, your game is like the better version of mine, haha. I really like how your body remains when you die (and it's even affected by gravity) and how you temporarily expand your vision by shrinking. Oh, yeah the shrinking mechanic is super cool! I also love how you're lighting candles along the way and they're like the checkpoints. Even without text, I found that it was quite intuitive to navigate the map, so well done on that part as well. The movement was pretty responsive and fluid. The only thing was the jump felt a bit floaty in general, but especially when you hold the jump for the entire duration. I wish the vision was proportional to the candle height, like I know you get more vision when shrinking, but after you reduce in size, it would be cool to see your vision shrink. So it's like temporarily, you can see more, but because you intentionally (or unintentionally if you get hit) sacrificed some light for additional visibility or to get somewhere, there's a tradeoff in your vision. Anyway, this game was really well polished with nice art and music as well as great gameplay. A really fun game! Great job!

Also, just as a side note, how did you achieve the lighting effect like that? It looks super smooth and realistic. I tried doing some sort of implementation for something like that but I couldn't get anywhere.

First of all thanks for the feedback, im really glad you enjoyed my game, i did the lighting using a unity feature called sprite mask, its basicly a sprite that can hide or show objects when they collide, the Youtuber Blackthornsprod has a great video about it.

Thank you!

I loved the game and its drawing, was so beautiful, Good job!

Thank you :D

You there should be more advantages for burning the candle and shrinking your size, and the game doesn't fit the theme that well, but next time you'll do better, aviv :>

also, i really like the visuals

(edit) wait, you gain more light the more you burn the candle? oh, i didn’t notice, maybe you should make it more noticeable

Developer(+1)

Yeah the Light mechanic is tied to the size change, I tried to keep the tutorial as simple as possible, maybe i should have made a part that will make it clearer :>

thanks for checking out my game :D

A cool game

Loved the music and the concept of sacrificing to gain light. Easily understood and fun!

Incredibly cute! Amazing mechanics and the floaty jump really adds to the mood of the game. Instantly understood how to play, I have no complains. 5/5 review.

thank you.

I really liked the music and visuals of the game. It was pretty cool seeing how the character itself was the health bar instead of just a separate bar. Was easy to understand and was enjoyable.

Developer

Thank you! I wonderer if i should display a healthbar that would show the health, but i think that what i ended up with was cleaner.

thanks for playing :)

Dude, i loved it. The idea of "failing" in the sense of "shrinking and losing health" in order to progress and get passed obstacles is very original and fits the theme of the Jam very nicely. The art was awesome and well polished. The particle effects felt really satisfying. Music is well chosen and fits the game. The game mechanic of seeing only things in range of your light was fun! This game made a very good impression on me ;) Well done dude!

Thank you! its nice to hear that you enjoyed it :D

Nice game, I like the mechanic, however it can get tedious at times

Developer

Im sorry you felt that way, i tried to put the right amount of checkpoint to make it so you dont get bored or frustrated, but i guess I didnt quite work out that well.

Submitted

Nah, it's just a nitpick, I enjoyed the game

Fun game! It seemed to have a good idea with purposely shrinking to be able to get forward, which was later dropped. I would have also have made obstacles/enemies glow in the dark as it seemed they sort of popped out of nowhere. The music and visuals were very nice, and without considering the theme it was a short, fun game. Good job!

Developer

Thank you, I've interpreted the theme of the jam in this game by making it so every time you die you leave a small spot of light that makes it easier to see the enemies, thats also why you cant see them in the dark spots.

Submitted

I liked the art style in this, its cute and well animated. I felt that some parts were a little unfair because you cant see the enemies till theyre right on top of you, maybe that was a design choice? either well, well done.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking my game out!

I tried to make some parts a bit harder to pass on the first run, because the main idea of the game is that when you die you make your next run easier by lighting up the map, but if I had more time I would probably balance the difficulty a bit :)
