WWOOWW what a game, I hope someday I can make a game like this.

This game is a work of art! congrats on the aesthetics, and good luck on the jam :)

Nice graphic, but I'm a bit stuck after shooting a few enemy.

Developer

Where did you get stuck if you don't mind me asking?

Submitted(+1)

It looks like your game is drawing a lot of gray colors to the screen, in addition to black and white (and it looks like it's not just from in-engine transparency, one of the allowed exceptions). I tried the desktop build to make sure it's not just web browser weirdness. I can see you were attempting a dithered look, but it seems some extra shades slipped through.

Developer

It's just black and white, there's no AA on the textures. The eye can just be tricked by how dense the textures are. Unless I don't understand something about how unity renders textures which is possible. But none of the textures themselves (besides a single one that was given to me really compressed) have any grey on them or AA to fuzz them up. If you blow the textures up in size they're very clearly 2 colors. But just to clear up confusion I'll blow them up a bit because it's possible some monitors may blur them together.

I should have said, I didn’t just eyeball it, I copied a screenshot into an image editor to check. (I used that same technique for my game to find places where I accidentally used more colors.) One example is the  gun in the lower right has shades of gray. I can post a screenshot later.

Edit: https://imgur.com/a/nRyfdDu It's even in the dithered part. I used the Win+Shift+S tool that's built in to Windows to screenshot the game, which I don't believe adds any extra AA to the image but I could be wrong. Does the game have a built in screenshotting feature?

Developer(+1)

Oh shoot I'm sorry for not believing you... Thanks for letting me know I'll get those in photoshop and sort them out!

great game, can you try mine

Wonderful really wonderful, liked style a lot - music, art, them, story, but i recommend to make sounds louder if you are near the sound source and quiter if the one far away, very impressing, excellent made for a jam

I really like shooter games, I had a lot of fun playing it. It has a climate and the story is very creatively written, great job!

Really nice game :)
I like the story and mechanics. The visual is soo cool! I love it!

Great submission! Good job!

This is a really nice, classic shooter, and that intro narration was a surprised. I love the story concept. I might've missed it, but a way to pause would be a great addition. Overall, well done, especially for the time crunch!

Reminded me of 007 for N64 (a very high compliment). I really liked the voice acting and the story elements! Great submission!

Very Impressive Game! The story was intriguing and the gameplay was fun. Some feedback upon getting hit would be nice and going to the vehicle on the final level could've been better communicated. But overall had a great experience!

Developer

That's amazing to hear! Making sure it's fun is always the number one priority! By the way I see you commented on a lack of hit effects, did you play via browser or exe? Because the newest browser version includes damage grunts and a blood splatter effect when you get hit.

Submitted(+1)

Played via browser i left the comment a couple of hours after i played it so you must've updated since then.

This is really a great shooter! There are many mechanics to use (dodge roll, slide, bullet time), so it doesn’t feel repetitive. I really enjoyed the narration and the music, and the voice acting makes the immersion even better. It’s a bit of a shame that the tower theme seems somewhat sidelined, but I got stuck after the phone booth, so I assume it comes later based on the screenshots.  Also, the shader is very well done! Great job on this submission!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to make the backtrack to the locked room after the phone booth more obvious. As for the tower, its actually the space elevator that's brought up in the dialogue a lot and you can see in the distance! But I get how that could be unclear.

But the gameplay is the most important part, and hearing an endorsement like that is amazing! Thanks a ton!

Very cool shooter, I couldn't get past the waves of enemies where all the cars are but I had fun trying. I like the narrative and setting. The art and sfx were great. I think taking damage could be better indicated. Overall a really great submission!

Developer

That's too bad to hear about not being able to get past that arena, but I'm really glad you liked it! I'll get right to work on patching in some damage effects!

Also, would you mind telling me if you had all three weapons and knew how to use your dashes and bullet time before you entered the arena you couldn't get past? Just trying to get some information for balance changes :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

Sure, I had the machine gun, shotgun, and pistol and I was using rolls and slide and bullet time. Im not sure if infinite sliding was intended but I made use of it to get around quickly. It seemed that no matter what I did my health would just get whittled away, dashing in to try and pick up health drops usually ended in a net negative, running away to safety and cover wasn't effective since there was no regen it just seemed to delay the inevitable.

Submitted

I agree with this feedback. But also I'm just not very good at shooters lol

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

The game is really great! The story is interesting, and the art is beautiful.

However, the gameplay feels a bit too challenging due to the limited availability of bullets.

Ading some direction guide arrows would be great! (I got lost.)

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks! I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed it! It can be hard sometimes to tell just how difficult something can be when you're the one who made it but it seems like I should tweak the difficulty a bit.

Also would you mind telling me where you got lost?

Really impressive stuff!

Interesting game, good narative, but i wasn't able to go trouch the phase before elevator.

Developer

Thanks! The phase before the elevator is difficult, yeah. I'm glad to hear you got that far however.

There are too few shotgun ammo drops, maybe make that when an enemy with a shotgun dies, he should drop only shotgun ammo, not pistol ammo.
Also, there is no indication of where you can find a new gun, and how to switch, for hardcore gamers maybe it is easy to figure it out, but some people, will just play with a pistol

Developer

Thanks for the response! When shotgun enemies die they do have a chance to drop shotgun ammo, they just don't give out to much to keep the shotgun more balanced. As for the bit about how to switch, I appreciate the feedback and I changed things in the most recent build to try and address that!

I really like the artstyle of this game. Reminds me of "Return of the Obra Dinn"

Developer(+1)

Yeah that game has a really cool style, dithering is an interesting visual technique
