What worked:
The artwork and the atmosphere were really great. The sound design worked very well. I like that you don't only use your eyes to navigate, using sound queues as direction to be more cautious. I like the placement of monsters surrounding an area to signify a dead end.
What didn't:
I ended up just kind of walking away from the monsters. I never really felt like they were a threat. I didn't really end up using the firefly much, unless I came across a pit without sparkles. The distance to regain the firefly felt a bit too short.
Bugs:
I think a tree slapped me forward once haha. Probably due to the collision box rotating?
Great job!
Neat! I like the color choice and the shader is really slick. It makes wandering around the forest enjoyable in-and-of itself.
What an absolute trip. Really cool game. Some of the platforming was a little too hard. I could make a jump but then couldn't reach the firefly to pick up again so I would have to jump back and then try to do the jump blind which was too difficult.
Really cool game with a unique ambience. 🥰
However, I do find the last bits of platforming kinda unfair.
You need to perform maximum jumps multiple times in a row, without making mistakes, while it's completely dark! Since you are too far away from the firefly after jumping to the next platform. (Or maybe there's actually another way and I'm just too blind to find out.)
I ended up cheesing the fact that you can still jump on very steep slopes :p
Also, the firefly doesn't respawn with the player when they die unless it's in their mouth. I ended up restarting the game once because I got lost in the forest, spitted out the firefly, died, and forgot where the firefly is.
Very strong atmosphere and sound design.
Love how creepy the dark spirits are.
Great game with a nice gameplay, really good use of the theme of the jam!
Nice sound design in this one and a very charming art style. This one has potential to become something for sure. Due to the constraints of the 1 Bit style applied I found differentiating the fireflies from the rest of the setting a little difficult at some points. Overall, a great and unique entry.
Well done.
Great Game! It was fun and interesting to explore. The platforming and light & dark theme was well done. There were lots of convenient checkpoints too which made the game easy to complete.
Wow, nice game! Love the visuals and the atmosphere!
Great idea, it was fun to play. I love the atmosphere and the artistic direction which gives this feeling of exploring a drawing. We also tried this kind of result, you should like it.
cool game! this would be great on VR in the future
I really dig the graphics and the whole concept, though I feel like this lacked some nice game/level design. Maybe if the quacks were used with a cooldown, for instance, and would make the ghosts go away, could have made for some interesting gameplay.
Though I really, really dig the esthetic, and the movement itself felt really nice.
The whole quacking felt a lot more like a chore though, since the lighting was very disorienting.
Overall, very unique, felt like with just the right changes it could have been a very very fun game to play through.
The artstyle was really cute, and I thought that the objective for the game was really cute too. It could've been shorter though, lots of walking. Also I lost my firefly because I fell in the hole and used it there lol, wasn't able to finish the game. Having spirits be attracted by quacks also didn't make much difference at all, the follow you regardless. Would be interesting if there were many spirits in a very dark spot and they only followed you if you made noise, so you could have the choice: Do I quack so I can see where the hell I'm going or do I stay silent and make my way through? Very cute game, though. Liked the ambient sounds too, the forest felt very foresty.
I saw this game in discord server and the screenshots where so good that I decided to create a YouTube video playing it. I think this game has a huge potential to be a successful in Steam or mobile because of unique paper like 2D art put into 3D. It reminds me Don't Starve by Klei.
It is my favorite entry as for today, however there are some things to improve in my opinion.
First, there should be a better tutorial, because I died at first walking in the dark, and then I saw a note in the bottom left corner that I have to press E to quack.
The second, the web version is a bit laggy, so you should put a notice to download a PC version for better experience.
Anyway, extremely polished game. Good job.
Omg, thank you <3 glad you liked it! Good points about tutorial and dowloadable version!
i cant express how it feel to jump on a plank and think that game over but with a spark you see you did it just right , very VERY cool game (Also bones for making 3D with 2 colors)
pretty cool concept, though the darkness becomes more of a chore than anything.
