The art layering is really well done and makes it seem much more than it is. It was fun to play.

Nice entry. The music was good and the art style very cool. I find the drawn backdrop very appealing to look at as well.

Well done.

Fun endless running, nice background graphics, very accurate crown hit detection. The day cycle hurts my eyes a little bit though hahah. Good submission!

Fun and polished game, well done!

Cool game, had fun trying it out.

Another piece reminding me of games like Flappy Bird or Dino Runner, but with an interesting and original spin to it of the crown being the target, not your character.

Really liked the music as I feel like it adds even more action to this game.

In the end it's a great game and I feel like it could become one these games that you would pick up again and again, just to beat your high score. Great work, keep it up!

Cool parallax effect in the background! The transition between day and night is clean.

That was so fun to play! I like the concept. There is a slightly tiny bug (or maybe it was voluntary?), I would pass through some of the obstacles mid jump. But other than that, loved the music, art and day/night switches :)

Thanks! So passing through stuff was intentional, I put in the How To Play section that only the hat is affected by bullets. I did not want to do this, but I was running out of time so this is what I came up with. Sorry for the confusion! I think once I start working on this again, I will look into making the player affected by bullets, and add new game mechanics to accommodate for it.

Very simple and fun! I liked the time of day changing effect

I've always wanted to make a game that only controls with one button, I think that's such a good limiter to place on yourself to really maximize how intuitive your game can be. I really enjoyed how simple this was, it was very easy to play and the presentation was super cool. Love how often the music changed, and the collider only being on the hat was very kind of you and I very much appreciate that.

Great work!

One button and one bit, cool scene changing effect! Nice music!

Really nice game, I think the background city is very pretty too! And it's really fun to play

Developer

Thank you! The background was pretty fun to draw, I used Aseprite. I wish I had more time to make different backgrounds, but it will have to wait until after the jam.

I think this is a simple, but pretty well done game. It's an interesting twist on a runner game, as I don't think I've seen one where the goal is to keep something other than yourself alive. The art is also basic but looks good in its simplicity. I did notice that there's a somewhat unfair aspect to how you spawn obstacles though. Since the slime jumps so slowly and the ground moves so fast after even 20 seconds or so, it's pretty easy for you to jump over a bullet when there's no danger on screen, and then have a pit spawn underneath you and kill you while there's nothing you can do about it. If you were to keep working on this game, maybe you could try increasing the speed of the slime's jumps as well as the bullets to match the speed increase for the ground? That would help keep the game feeling skill-focused and higher speeds rather than being pure luck. Other than that, nice job!

That sadly is the aftermath of doing a game jam for the first time, with a new tech stack in 1 week lol. That is the hardest part of the game, finding the balance between obstacles and bullets (with the current way I programmed it). This is something that will be reworked in the future, I agree it is the biggest downfall in my mind to the enjoyment of the game. Thank you for the feedback! I watched a friend play this on Twitch, so I was able to see first-hand from another's perspective how frustrating this can be. Making the speed of the bullet sync up with ground speed may be the solution I will implement (with some tweaks) but we will see! I'm pretty burnt out after grinding this game for a week straight, but I will get back to working on it soon.

I  enjoyed this game very addictive . Sfx  are amazing specially the music of credit section.  Did you use rigid body physics for the crown?

Developer (6 edits) (+1)

Yup! this is indeed RigidBody2D physics (Using Unity for the 1st time, so bear with me on this explanation lol)! I use raycasts for detecting the ground with the player. I tried a box collider at first, but there was an issue where the player would not be able to detect the ground at times, and it prevented jumping. I ended up using 3 raycasts -- one in the center of the character pointing down, and 1 on each end of the character pointing down (not fully at the end of the player). this allowed me to detect the ground, and get the "coyote jump" effect to make sure my player control was smooth. Granted the only player control was space bar.. But still raycasts with rigid body works really well for me.

The crown is also a rigid body with no raycasts, it just sits on top of the character. I need to look at my code, but essentially I made the mass of the crown 1000x less than the player mass (or something like that), that way the crown would not limit the player's full jump height (well it does, but it's very very unnoticeable).

Thanks for asking!

nice!

Very simple, fun and addictive! Love this kind of endless runner games, and specially loved the idea of having to focus on keeping the crown safe rather than the player itself. Great job!

Simple and fun! I like the music, but I would've used a different palette, cause the switch to white was a little headache inducing. Good game tho! ^^

cute game! the blob dude looks really bouncy, I enjoyed that :) the game was a bit too big on my screen, but since i didn't have to see the whole thing that didn't bother me too much

Nice runner, really like the music!
