It's amazing how well this game makes me feel like I'm in another world, as strange as it may be. The exploration and defense blend is very unique and interesting to me. I'm also curious who these characters are and would love to learn more about them while exploring this world. Absolutely loved helping the big ape deal with the swarm and getting an upgrade from it.
Movement felt a lot better after getting the water gun, and making that the first objective is a neat idea, I just hope most people are able to get there. At one point I got stuck in the ground in the starting area. I'm not sure what caused it but it only happened once.
Yeah I feel a bit of remorse locking the skill and not having from the get go.
As for that bug I don't know. Were you on some water particles? Or it just get stuck in the terrain?
I don't think any water particles were involved but when I was jumping around the starting area I got stuck.
Cool how much you got into this game a shop system, NPC, and ability upgrades. I got the water gun , water shield, and I unlocked a health and water upgrade. Once you unlock the water gun the movement feels really fast and I like that. Good work.
Yeah I kinda regret having the water gun available from the get go.
Glad you enjoyed!
It's a very interesting world you've built here. I was so busy running around talking to people I didn't realize there was fighting going on until I was being shot. Then I spent my time exploring around just seeing what all there was to see.
Yeah I kinda merged the two modes without clear distinction some chaotic stuff my emerge. I wanted to make it a bit more clear when the big Swarm actually come in but didn't made in time. Glad you enjoyed!
The wave mechanic reminded me of games like GemCraft where you can call waves earlier for extras. I think the best part is the world with all its characters. Way more than I would’ve expected to see, and they didn’t have generic throwaway text too! Teaching what to do could be a lot better, but I doubt there was enough time to iron that out, especially with the absolute volume of what was done. Good job.
Yeah I will have to look on that one, I stubbornly stucked on the Crab guy being a boss and made the first minutes kinda confusing though it was all too have a cool charachter presentation wich I'm glad you liked as all the efforts went mostly into that! I'll have to look into GemCraft as it may give some ideas how to do it better.
Thank you for the tip and for playing!
Whoa! You created a full adventure game! GJ! Theres so much to this game.
Wow this game is very nostalgic and very unique. The world feels lived-in in a way that few other games do, and exploring the surrounding areas was fun and satisfying. The music, the colors, the characters, the amount of things to do, all add up to something very special. I will definitely be coming back to this one just to spend more time soaking up the vibes. The coziness and feeling like you're in a world much bigger than you is very strong in this one, I am impressed!
Glad you appricieted that it was something I wanted to do and add some characheters and vibe to games and has been the focus of this jam for me.
Thank you for playing !
Great job!
I think this game looks and feels great, the sounds and vibes are something special. I do think its charm is a bit lost in an apparent complexity, and the size of things like the UI is not very user-friendly. If it was a bit more aproachable I think I would like this game a whole lot more. Still a tremendous job, and something to be proud of!
Thank you for your post. I was still struggling as to ease up the starting moments I'm still on the fence if I would have given the water pistol right off the bat too let the player get more easily acquitened with the world. The UI was my "first" as I never done it and it's a bit of mess ahah
Really great character design and overall feel of the game, made me want to actually hang out here in real life and relax, music was really chill also !
Thank you is something I wanted to focus on and it's cool to ear that!
Can't believe the number of NPCs you managed to add here! They're a really good way to introduce players to the game and the world, which is quite large, by the way. Congrats!
I wanted to tell a bigger story with the setup but didn't make in time. (though some of that is still there)
Really impressed that not only does this game seem to have a large world but it's populated with so many different characters! I'm glad a lot of them help to explain what's going on though I never did end up finding that watergun I did go into the cave with that crab on the far left. Also even after hitting down and stopping the clock the bugs still appeared.
I really liked that each npc had their own dialogue and bits of info to share, it made the base feel like it was populated with a whole civilazation!
Yeah I haven't explained that to well. You have to beat the crab by knocking him down with water and then hopping on his head.
Really like the npc interactions and the size/how populated the world is! It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but was fun when I did and got to explore around.
thats some good pizza
not edible thogu
Really interesting concept, I had some trouble figuring out what to do at first but originality and presentation are awesome. Great job!
Thank you. Yeah it was a design decision to let the player research how things works in the game there's a little computer that do the tutorial but I forgot to mention some parts even in there. Very bad at tutorializing
Like the previous commenters I’m floored by the size of the world you made here. It gave me a lot of charming metroidvania vibes. I honestly could not figure out where to get the water gun but I bought some turrets and made myself a little fort.
Ahah glad that you made it through without the gun! It can be found on the far left of the map given by the Crab guy!
Cool concept! I like the metroidvania aspects of the game where the player has to explore the world to get new equipment to help stop the swarm in time. The water gun also felt fun to use; I liked being able to use it for both shooting and platforming!
I think the main critique I have is that there are a lot of mechanics in this game, and you are told how to use nearly all of them at once. I think it would be effective to present the mechanics as they become relevant, so that it feels a bit less overwhelming.
Still, I love the originality in this entry. Way to go!
Yes I would have tought about a pop up even when you unlock the abilities to show how they work but got busy balancing the swarm (and barely finished that I could not add a better tutorial)
Loved the mood and aesthetic of this game. You made a great world to explore and I enjoyed checking every nook and cranny. Great work!
This is extremely ambitious whoa. It's a bit overwhelming honestly. But amazing entry. Well done!
