Unfortunately I encountered a lot of bugs with this game. You can get softlocked when you defeat the slime vase, and it seems like you can also interact with them again as the fight is starting, which makes the dialogue overlap with the actual battle (and then softlock at the end of the fight). These bugs made it nearly impossible to play the game for me. It was kind of an interesting puzzle to solve how to defeat the boss, but as an RPG it was very shallow, having just 2 rooms with 2 enemy types total. Overall, this is a fine start for a game but you should be careful with the way you check inputs on your next game. I think you might be using an is_key_pressed or is_action_pressed when you really want is_action_just_pressed.

How does your game represent "Power"?
You get stronger and stronger and become more Powerwful. So eventually you can beat the final boss of the Game

Well thank you for your honest and furrow feedback :)
Yeah the change to the fight view is still a bit buggy, because this was the last thing I did and time wouldn't allow a big rework. I use "is_action_just_pressed", the problem lies more within the logic of how the input is then handled and the state/position of the courser.
(I looked through the code again to double-check, I only found the is_action_just_pressed)
Having only 2 rooms and two enemy Types was also pretty much, because of time. I had many more ideas, but I really needed to fix the state of the Game. So at least I had an Idea for a kind of puzzle (which was really BS, but better than nothing I guess.)
I will keep working on this Game, the foundation still needs some fixing, but I think I can turn it into something really fun :)
Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it <3
I did it, I defeated the Slime Boss! Very good roots for an RPG, definitely has a lot of room to grow but you have the basics here for sure! Nice job. :)
This is a humble showcase of a very good base for an RPG, but it still threw me to quite a journey in its short duration. I first foolishly decided to face the ruler of the slimes head on, but to no avail, my slime preventing powers were way too weak! I had to find a way to get stronger, so i checked the room above me and found a guy who agrees with my plan and tracks my current level, it was not what I was looking for, but I got motivation to press on. Then, I decided to check a conveniently placed vase in the first room and wouldn't you look at that, there were two slimes inside of it! Afterwards, I tried facing the slime boss again, but I was still so weak! I did try to find a secret entrance into a third room, trying all sorts of things like Konami code, talking to the level tracking guy for god knows how many times, but I eventually realized that the vase was not ordinary vase, but instead a vase that held an infinite number of slimes! With that knowledge and with Eye of the Tiger playing in the background, Ive managed to accumulate enough strength to defeat the evil slime king once and for all and save the kingdom from the eternal slimeage! Nicely done!
Damn, thanks for this whole text. It really made me smile and laugh. I am very happy you enjoyed it! <3
A Secret Room, now that is a cool idea, maybe I am going to work in something like that. And I will definitely work on this foundation and create the original Idea for this game. That is a promise! Especially now that mostly everything works. It would be a shame to not continue this.
(Eye of the Tigre is an excellent choice, btw.)
So really thank you, for you nice and kind words <3
Spamming A next to the vase for 45 seconds is the key strategy I've learned lol. Even if you had less time than you wanted, this was still fun imo. Nice job!
Very nice! I really like the gameboy aesthetic and the general art style. Also was there no sound or was that an issue on my end? If not it's all good just wondering.
Thank you for your kind words :)
No there was no sound, I wanted to add some, but the time didn't allow it.
I mean it would've been possible to add some sounds...but I think I could've never done a sound slider in time. So instead of blowing someones eardrums...it thought I just should leave it silent for now.
I was surprised to see an RPG. And I appreciate the Game Boy greens. Bravo!
i didnt encounter any bugs, but i thought i did when i found out i could refight the vase slimes to get more levels.
On my first playthrough i didn't even notice there was a second room. I like the concept and the small grind, i like getting stronger in rpg's. Someone in the comments mentioned three bosses, but the game is over once you beat the head hat-slime, right?
Balancing was a little off though, you can just spam attacks and win the game without ever needing to heal.
Still, i had a lot of fun, thank you!
That's not a bug, It's a feature! Basicly what happened was ... I encountered some bugs by the end. So I quickly made a version were you could endlessly fight the Enemy Spawn from the Vase, to level Up enough to fight the "Boss". Yeah the Game is over after beat up that Slime with a hat, you didn't miss anything :). I know the balancing is very off and the game is too easy (once you know what you have to do.) Thanks for your kind words and I am very happy that you could enjoy the Game :)
The game was a bit buggy for me, I got locked after defeating the vase slimes - it seemed like it thought I was still in battle even though I defeated both! I hope you continue to work out the kinks, I gotta know what's happening with all this slime business! I did enjoy the art and the dialogue was pretty cute, hopefully you learned a lot with this project, a whole RPG from scratch is certainly a tall order :)
Thanks for your kind words :) Yeah it sometime happens that you somehow...get looked out of the fight. Not quite sure why it happens. I will propably upload a newer, better and fixed version of my original Vision for the Game (almost everything got scrapped haha). I've been working on some new Enemies and Restructuring the Code a bit. I certainly learned a lot from it! This was perfect to just start and get my hands dirty again and now it's even easier to concept and develop the RPG Aspects, because I have some kind of foundation haha.
Yeah I probably bit off a bit more than I could chew...but I am glad you liked it :)
At first, I was having a problem with the game stopping when killing the slimes in the vase, but once I mixed in heal between attacks that seemed to avoid the problem, and I was able to beat the hat slime. A quick tip that would take no time is to turn on viewport scaling in your project settings, so the game expands when the window is stretched. I had a bit of trouble reading and had to lean in. I haven't seen many RPGs so far so props to you for trying something different. Great job!
First of all, thanks for that tip. I knew this was a problem, but didn't look into it right away, then forget it. I will definetly do that for the next build. Yeah...some people have reported the issues, I thinks it has to do which Enemy is selected, which are alive and what you did. The whole Fight Scene code is really messy. It was basicly the last big thing I worked on...and I really think that shows.
Making a RPG from scratch was a bit....mad tbh, but I learned much from it. Especially how to organize and structure my code for a more complex project :)
Thanks for your kind words!
Very charming little game, i managed the IMPOSSIBLE of killing the slime with the hat. Just got a little confused because i missed the vase. After that, the game felt preety smooth.
Really good game, with an original mechanic, loved the pixel art ^^
Finally I can add “killed a slime with a hat” to my résumé!!! The most impossible achievement one can ever get.
Unfortunately the game kept on getting bugged whenever I beat the vase and wouldn't let me leave the battle screen, but it seems like a good start to an rpg. Impressive how much you were able to get done in a weeks time. Nice job :)
I just kept spamming A until I got to level 50 and then easily took out the 3 bosses. Btw, you should update your game page so people know to use the S key on keyboards.
It's tough to get an RPG done for a short game jam. You definitely get points for trying.
i got to level 7 and one-shotted him... time management is not my strong suit either i guess lol. fun submission, it's a little lacking in depth, but making a functional turn based rpg in like a week is an achievement
A little buggy but love the pixel art and the concept of having to gain more power to defeat an enemy that beats you at the start.
