This game is super cute, I love the artstyle and the music is just great! Though, the jumping felt a little weird, it's just a little quick in my opinion.
Ha ha great game. I like your sense of humor. Jumping is a bit quick and slightly unrealistic, at least when I've dropped off most of the packages which might make me unable to see the platforms at times. Other than that I had an absolute blast playing this, and I managed to beat both normal and hard modes because I'm the best pro-gamer there is.
If you feel like playing my game, don't hesitate. It won't bite. ==> https://itch.io/jam/blackthornprod-game-jam-3/rate/900327
it's a nice game but the player controls kind of ruined it for me. the gravity was way too fast and so was the jump
The game is great but i have some feedback about the player movements/controls:
- Jumping is really weird, you reach the peek of your jump too fast, and that makes hard to execute, especially from a non-moving position (you can especially si that in the hard mode)
- The player takes too much to reach max speed, as a result it's hard to control with precision your movement (and jump, as explained earlier)
- The player takes too much to stop, as a result the player feels like it's sliding on an icy floor
- When the player gives some mail doesn't feel floatier, just his jump increases. That doesn't make much sense imo, but i can understand that from a design side :/
- I don't like very much control where you have the jump in the 4 cardinal movement things. Idk why, i just feel more in control if i have them separated in another key (like Spaceor Z, for naming a few)
thanks for the feedback :P
1. yea its kinda rough but i will make better platformers from now on i just quickly added all of theese parameters and didnt think much of it
2. yea that too, weak parameters. getting the hang of it tho
3. i tried to fix it but i kinda failed i guess
4. yea that was kinda dumb but i didnt know what to do so i just made the jump force higher, yea i should have lowered the gravity too
5. i dont understand xD
The game used the up key (if you use the arrow keys to move) ro W (if you use WASD to move). I'm talking about that: i would have personally separated the Arrow/WASD keys and the jump key(s). Again, idk why, but they just feel better that way, i feel like i have more control over the player character that way :/
Overall really great and charming game with excellent level design. I like how the level expands by you gaining jump height. My only real complaint is that the gravity was really high and the movement was quite fast with deceleration in the air so landing down on single block platforms was really tough. Otherwise though, amazing job getting this done in 7 days.
Super charming - lovely pixel art visuals, cute audio, and just a hint of humourous writing. Mechanic is simple, yet effective, and the level design is perfectly suited to explore it without overstaying its welcome. Reading through the description of your game, you took a lot of feedback to make the platforming fun and satisfying, and it shows!
My only complaint is that "up to jump" is a cardinal sin!
So the jump button is "w" right? That's the up direction in the imaginary directional pad made by the WASD keys. Just makes it awkward, because you're using the same part of the keyboard (and the same muscle groups in your hand) to move, and to jump. In my case, I literally had both my hands crowded into the one spot on the keyboard, so I could use my left hand on A&D to move, and have my right hand on W to jump.
Ideally, to make the controls flow nicely, you'd use a different part of the keyboard (preferably accessible by your other hand) for jumping, so that you're not tripping over yourself every time you try and jump. It's also become common to use the space bar, since most games these days require the right hand to be on the mouse and using your left thumb is a different enough muscle group for you to be able to mentally separate the different actions.
Does that make sense? Sorry, didn't intend that to be a mini essay 😂
Very simple and short game, but that what make this game calm and pleasant! Loved this! Hope you enjoyed this jam! <3
I love the simplicity of this game and how well it follows the theme. The music is catchy and the black and white art makes it feel like that classic platformer that you always wanted to play. It's straightforward and easy to pick up. I would be curious to see this game expanded upon as I think that this has the potential to be a full game.
Really solid artstyle and gameplay loop, and a nice challenge. Finished the hard mode and it was satisfying. My only 2 complaints would be that the player feels a bit too slippy and that makes it a bit frustrating at some points and the camera goes too up when the player jumps and it makes it harder to know where to land. But on top of that the game was pretty fun.
Goog game! The kind of metroid-vania design and platforming challenges were fun! The movement is kinda broken tho, one of the problems is that you "climb" ledges when you are moving towards them (im guessing that that's because you use a collider with rounded edges in the character), but if you try to jump from below of said ledge, you may not manage to achieve enough altitude too get there. Great work nonetheless!
I love the jump, well done ! Less is more is for minimalism and you did it with two color. Well done !
+ Great game
+ Fun mechanics
+ Fits well with the theme
+ Love the music
+ Great art style
+ Good level design
- I'd like more levels!
- Jumping felt kind of hard to control as you became lighter, I would suggest adding some acceleration and friction to the player so that you can move more incrementally
Loved it! A very simple mechanic, but this game is oozing with charm and fun. I can tell you enjoyed making it. Also, the track is now stuck in my head. ^_^
