Interesting concept here, with uniquely uncanny visuals. The choice to give up your sight feels pretty arbitrary, as it is almost impossible to do anything if you don't give it up. I would recommend working on the feel of player movement and combat, as it currently feels pretty weightless, and doesn't really communicate when you are hitting the spider or not. But this is a nice start, good work!

Loved the art style and the atmosphere. The menu reminds me of some game I played in my youth so pleas for the nostalgic feel. The gameplay could use a little bit more polish, and the trade mechanic felt like a necessity more than a choice. Overall is a good game, good luck with the jam!

Good job, but the visuals suffer a little

I like the concept you had here, but I personally had quite a few issues with the game on my machine. It booted up and ran fine, but my experience felt buggy and unfinished. This was still quite cool though. I like how you tied it into the theme and the aesthetic you went for was interesting!

I always up for surreal aesthetics, so I'll be a little biased at rate ;) You get my thumbs up for it's creepy hardcore arena with no mercy. There is surely things that can be improved, I think you already get it since many people here describe the pros and cons, no need to repeat that, just keep it going! Overall concept worth.

The atmosphere makes it play like a horror game, which I kind of like. The idea of 'sounds become light' is really, really cool! However not being able to see the movement of bosses in battle does leave me clueless.

Developer

When you make the trade with your eyes your able to see the movements better but sadly some older versions of windows doesn't have all the cool sounds and lights. We didn't have a way to properly test it to know that had happened. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I really liked the concept, with how you can play the game with your eyes or not. However, that game was very hard and I'm genuinely happy there is a difficulty slider, because I wouldn't of played much if it wasn't for that fact. The best part probably is the ambiance, it gives me chills.

The game concept is good.Ideas for using new themes. The boss is very scary because it's dark so I have fear in this game too. Good game!

I really like this take on the exchange theme. I just wish that trading your eyes felt more like a trade-off. Cause right now, (with the exception of the first boss were they both feel about the same) trading your eyes just seems easier.

Developer

You are right trading your eyes is easier. We debated having the no trade option and are now realizing it didn't fit and was too confusing. Though its a tougher challenge for those who want, it doesn't fit with the game. Thank you for the feedback and for playing!

The concept is very good, but it has a lot of bugs, the change in hearing doesn't give much idea of the boss's position, and the vision isn't working properly in the second boss, it's a very good concept, but it needs more polish in the overall gameplay, boss movement and feedback

When you make the trade with your eyes your able to see the movements better but sadly some older versions of windows doesn't have all the cool sounds and lights. We didn't have a way to properly test it to know that had happened. The game definitely needs more clarity, Thank you for the feedback!

Nice game, beat it with the slider a bit on easy lol, I like the idea of seeing or hearing enemies just wish that the hearing part(when you dont see the models) had some more clues I almost felt forced to choose the other option, I also noticed that Windows throws the unknown editor popup when oppening the game for the first try (this could lead to people not wanting to play) as your using godot you can just not embed the PCK and upload a zip file. interesting idea, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the wonderful feedback! I'll admit, you are meant to select the 'Trade' option. The other game mode still needs a lot of love. Really good idea for packaging! I'm new to Windows apps so this kind of feedback is very helpful.

Good game! Exchanging your sight at the beginning is an interesting mechanic. I couldn't really see the boss if I didn't trade my sight at the beginning. It was a bit unclear how that works. I like that the game is one seamless experience between bosses. The inclusion of a difficulty slider is a nice addition.

Developer

Thank you for the well thought out feedback! I'll make sure to revamp the trade screen post jam!

The game is very laggy, so I couldn't fully test the game, but the idea of sharing is very cool, develop the game further!

Developer

I'm sorry it's not working better for you! On the start up screen in the game, you can turn down the effects in settings. At the end of the day this game needs a good bit of power to run all the lighting effects. You also need a GPU that can run an updated version of Vulkan. If the game wont launch at all you can get it to run using opengl3, but it will break the visuals. (From CMD add --rendering-driver opengl3)

First of all, great exchange mechanic! I really like the creepy atmosphere it has, the sound specially is great and works well with the mechanic, good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing it! Finding the right music for the creepyness was fun.

I played your game twice—once with my eyes wide open and once with them shut tight. Sacrificing my eyes to see the bosses added a compelling twist to the gameplay. Using the shield to reveal their attacks was a neat mechanic, although it would've been helpful to have additional cues, like footsteps, to pinpoint their location more easily. Surprisingly, the playthrough without eyes was actually more enjoyable for me. The art was striking, the music was decent, and the boss designs were pretty cool. Overall, very enjoyable experience!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the long review ^-^ The lights for the footsteps were definitely hard to get right for the spider. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
