How does your game fit the theme?
You wake up in an unfamiliar house. It appears that you have been locked in. You don't remember how you got there or even where "there" is to begin with. All you know is that you have to BREAK OUT!

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote the code myself excluding the coding for the UI but used assets for all the art.

Assets used
UI Bundle - Michsky
Low Poly Bundle - JustCreate
Low Poly Keys - IPoly3d
Sounds Good - Melenitas Dev
Jupiter - Pinwheel Studio

I really liked your game! The graphics were really nice and the atmosphere was great. The music made me feel like I had been abducted and then trapped in that house, lol. You approached the game in a very similar way to mine, though I leaned more in the horror side.

Overall I really liked the game! One of the best i have seen in this jam!

This is one of the most complete feeling games I have played during the jam. I really liked the puzzles. I wish that it was longer or had more houses, because I find myself wanting to continue playing. Do you have any plans to extend the game in any way?

Developer

Glad you had a fun time! I will upload a patched and slightly changed version of the game onced the jam is over but I do not intend to continue development on this game. If you like this kind of game you should check out Escape Simulator(also the main reason why I wont continue development...cant compete with that one). Thanks for playing!

This game has a very good polish in all its aspects (graphics, audio, ui...).

The projector and switches puzzles were balanced, not too easy, not too hard. The safe puzzle was a bit too obvious. It would not be a problem if I was not the last puzzle before the end. But it is and it felt a bit anticlimactic.

Also I found the key in the switches puzzle room before solving it. It should be locked.

The game lenght is perferct for a game jam.

The atmosphere of the game was a bit confusing. The theme and the music suggest an horror game but the house seems very ordinary. It could use one or two weird props to set the mood a bit better.

Bugs and glitches:

- I had a very weird bug on the projector puzzle. I was entering the right combination but only the first color was working (orange), but the second one (blue) failed. I spent something like 15 minutes on it but it wasn't working. I watched Ategon's video, he was doing the same thing as I was doing. I restarted the game, still doesn't work. I restarted again, and it worked! I did exactly the same thing than in the first 2 tries I have no idea why it wasn't working.

- I got stuck between the window and the safe, but I was able to jiggle myself out of there eventually

- The shadows are glitchy (jagged edges)

Developer

Thanks for playing and the detailed feedback.

The projector glitching is weird and as far as I know it did not happen to anyone else but I will take a look at it and see if I can reproduce it. The clipping at the safe and a couple of other places is fixed in the final release. You are so right about the music but sadly I ran out of time to look for something that's fits better with the theme.

Thanks again for playing!

I have the same bug broo

Wow... So much time spent on the light projector puzzle... I found it really unintuitive, because even when I set the right color, it sometimes resets at the start ; it's frustrating.

Also, the switch addition puzzle is really hard to read because I wasn't really sure where the switch button was pointing (up or down). So it was 1/2 chance with the solution found 🤷‍♂️

For everything else, this game is pretty well polish, using UI packages, good light settings, options, credits, feedbacks, etc... (imo the music is out of context and could have been something else). This is actually a good virtual escape game and I wonder how it could have been with much time. Glad to played it, congratulations and hope you will continue!

This was an incredibly polished game! I think it was a great idea to have audio cues for successful and failed attempts, it helped me figure out the puzzles pretty quick. I think you hit a perfect balance between scope and quality... in jams I always swing way too much towards scope and as a result my quality takes a huge hit haha. It is difficult to come up with useful critique for the game besides the lighting being a little dark in some places, I think making the "maximum" darkness a little brighter or making the light switches have a slight glow would have been helpful. Great work overall, definitely a top contender for the jam.

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it. I agree with the comment about the level of darkness. I will make sure to make it a bit brighter for the fixed up version after the jam.

Don't worry I also overscoped by a lot at first. At first the game was supposed to have multiple level with different houses (you can actually see the first level in the background of the main menu, forgot to change that...) The original version of the level that made it into the final project only had a simpler version of the safe puzzle. Changed up the level and added the other puzzles all on Saturday after feedback from playtesters. Biggest advice I can give for jams in regards of overscoping would be...let people playtest as much as possible and cut everything thats not fun. Thanks again for playing!

Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to look at the vod again in the future here it is timestamped to your game

Played through the game again to to show some gameplay past where it glitched for me

Developer

Thanks a lot for trying it again. You had really solid feedback which I mostly already implemented in the final release for when the Jam is over. Was kinda scared that you will think it bugged out again but as far as I know there is only a 1:14 chance of it happening in the Kitchen cause I failed to assign one spawn location to my manager there...anyways. Really appreciate the afford keep up your great work.

The game is pretty good. There are a couple of things that I don't like that much.

  • on the lower floor its way to dark you cant really see anything and if there was a big light switch I couldn't find it
  • the UI looks extremly good(don't get me wrong) but it just feels a little out of place. Your UI looks more like it belongs in a multiplayer fps or something it just doesn't fit the vibe that good
  • and I don't really get how your supposed to get keys for any doors once your out of the bedroom(I get that that's problably just me and that that is my problem and not a game problem)
  • could use a little post processing to enchance visual quality of the lights

With a few improvments the game could be really good.

you got x5 all, really everything is good! I want to sleep in that house! XD

This game should be extended

Well Done!

I was lowkey kinda proud of myself for coming up with that name haha. You are the first one that commented on it. Glad you had fun!

You should be proud. And hey I saw a community post where you said that you would give honest reviews. Do you mind reviewing my game pls?

The amount of interactivity is kind of crazy. Creepy atmosphere.

This kept me hooked for a while! I’m usually pretty bad at these types of games, but I was able to keep my interest very easily and beat it :)

Developer

I myself am not the biggest fan of these kinds of games, so I tried coming up with stuff that's interesting but not too hard to solve. Happy to hear I succeeded with that.

Submitted

I love the music and the sound effects, they are simple but provide alot to the overall game feel. Of course this game was cleanly finished , no issues with movement nor with game-breaking bugs. Hard to be picky, but if there's anything I'd improve is probably creating more red-hearings within the puzzles, everything was fairly straight forward, but honestly that is a very subjective thing. Overall the entire game feel was great and had a fun time playing!

Developer(+1)

This genre is very out of my comfort zone, so I am not really experienced with riddles and stuff like that. I tried to create puzzles that can be solved by everyone without being too hard or easy. Good feedback. If I had more time, I would have loved to add more random stuff into the drawers and closets too. Glad you enjoyed the game!

Submitted

A fun and challenging puzzle game, it was really satisfying to solve them! Also love the drawers in the fridge lol

Developer(+1)

Would have loved to fill the inside of the fridge and closets more, but ran out of time. Glad you enjoyed the puzzles!

Good job! Game is really fun to play, it provides opportunity to interact with almost everything. This idea definitely has future, well done!
Also, I had a bug when started the first game. I interacted with the shelf near bed and got stuck on the floor, some collider issue I guess. I recorded this for you, maybe you can fix it in the future, cause I needed to restart the save to make thigs work.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it, and thank you for taking the time to record this. I've already fixed this and a handful of other bugs. Additionally, I made some improvements to the readability of the fuse buttons, changed up the main menu background, and so on. As far as I understand, I can push these updates until the jam is fully over. Thanks for playing and for taking the time to provide this feedback.
