How does your game fit the theme?
We took the concept and used it as windows acting as doors into new rooms. The map is heavily obfuscated but the player can summon windows to show whats in the parts of the maps. You can travel between rooms to make new windows pop up and if one window closes you can go back to it and find new things appear if you make it pop up again

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes

This is great fun, it was very refreshing and innovative to see a game like this making use of my desktop. Very creative ! And the theme is pretty clearly implemented. It all felt natural and great. Thank you for making this, one of the top contenders in my rating !

Unique gameplay and I like it. The art and music are good. Sometimes the widow is too small which makes it difficult to play, other than that I think the game is great.

Using windows as new rooms is such a great idea. I've never played a game like that before, and it was so fun! There were some issues, but overall, it's my favorite game from this jam, and I'll definitely come back to get my first place!

This is really fun! I loved getting the different powerups! The only one I disliked was charge because I couldn't quite figure out what it did. I really loved the idea of how going through different doors took you into new windows!

I had a couple small issues, one being that going too far downward caused my character to get lost somewhere. The other issue I had was when I had X'd out of the game, when I tried to open it again it crashed a couple times before it would work again. Not really sure what that was about.

I also had an issue where in some rooms I couldn't go out certain doors, which was especially annoying when the timer appeared on that room.

If I had to change anything, it would be the game blocking off paths near the edges of the screen, and either a way to explain the powerups, or get rid of charge.

Also do the powerups stack? it seemed like when I would get another powerup it would be more powerful than the last.

I had a lot of fun and had to make myself quit playing after getting rank 10 with 4412 score.

charge needs you to charge it up by holding down the attack button. Yeah probably needs an explanation about it somewhere especially for people who usually like to rapid tap

Every time you pick up a weapon all future weapons you get are leveled up to encourage swapping between them a bit more instead of camping one. The non weapons upgrades that are permanent stack but dont get better (you just get more of it aka two orbital powerups = 2 orbitals)

Which x button did you click and in what phase of the game (main menu, in game, etc.). The one in the stat window? Or did you exit a different way

Submitted

I actually can't remember I think I had died. I believe it was the stat menu though. Thank you for the explanations!

Wow, this is a fantastic idea for a game! The animations and artwork are top notch. The timers on the windows disappearing added an extra challenge that I enjoyed.  I agree with what others have said, some sort of scaling would be nice. On my small laptop screen, everything was teeny. While the levels using actually Windows windows was innovative, I think you could have done the same thing with your own UI, making your own windows. Overall, great little run and gun dungeon crawler!

I love that the game is in all the windows, i havent seen this before so i think that is really creative. Also the game is lots of fun. In one try the character disappeared and i had to restart but that is not a big isue and i havent found anything else not working. you did a realy great job there.

Unique idea good job!

The idea is very original. I think the windows related mecanics have a lot of potentiel. But they felt a bit underexploited in this game. For example rooms with no doors on some of their sides so the windows need to be moved to access it, or an unkillable monster that travel from window to window and can only be killed by closing the window they are currently in.

The combat gameplay was simple but effective, and had a lot of weapon diversity and bonuses, which is really good for a jam. The only real problem is the fact that aiming is controled by the mouse and the game stops everytime I clicked outside the windows (which happened a lot).

Graphics and audio are both great, especially as you didn't used any premade assets.

This game is epic! Godot sure does give you some outstanding tools for the job.

Graphics&Sound: Everything looks so cute! The art is very well done and put together; nothing looks out of place, and everything is easy to identify thanks to the colors. Unfortunately, the windows are so small that you have to focus really hard, but I get it's a limitation due to how the rooms work. Also, the sounds and the music are not distracting and fit well into the game.

Mechanics: Very cool idea with the multiple windows and a timer on each one of them. Multiple weapons are a nice addition, though the "homing" gun seems to just spin around the enemy, unable to hit anything. The enemies are all different, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, due to the size of the rooms, fighting two of the shooting ones was almost a death sentence, and the "spinning star" enemies (not sure what they are) just flew to the bottom right corner and got stuck there. One thing I'd change is blocking the exits that lead outside the map boundary. I died once because of that. I also once just disappeared with the room I was in, and the game didn't end. I'm not sure how I did that.

Overall, a great entry to the Jam, an immaculate achievement of a game. As of the time me writing this, the highest score I got was 3.8k and 10th place on the leaderboard.

Really cool concept, unfortunatly in pratice it have some issues, most of my deaths are from bugs.
The windows size are too small, you can easily click outside, and with the 3 secs unpaused everytimes it can be annoying, would be good if the game unpaused when you click on any window.

Sometimes you're getting blocked by invisible hitboxes when you try to go in a path, some path also can't be taken, would be good to remove path in this case.

There is a bug, when you are in a window and it desappeared the game still continue.

There is a bug, when you go outside a window to discover a new window, the new window don't appear so you can't play anymore.

Between two windows there is no collisions, you can go up and down behind the wall.

Enemies spawning on you really fast can be annoying.

Sometimes i get hit/hit animation, but i don't lose life even when i don't have the shield.

Some enemies have time to launch an attack before dying, when they're supposed to be dead.

I got a bug when dashing my character goes really fast ? desappear ?  1 times it diseappear while crossing a new path, 1 times it seems to crossed to the new windows and continue to the next path then disappear, and 1 time it do the same but my character crossed the up path at the egde of the map to appear at the bottom windows.

Overall very good potential.

50 pts off first place, that's enough to tell you how much I enjoyed playing this game, there was a lots of enemies and rooms to makes the game currently really engaging. A scaling option would also be very nice since playing with a 4k monitor makes everything reeeally tiny.

Great execution! The animations are really smooth, and graphics are stylish. The window mechanics opens a lot of possibilities, will have to try it someday... Was this made in godot?

Developer

Yep its a Godot game, first time we used it in the team after switching from Unity

The idea and concept is unique for sure had a tough time coordinating some times after I entered another door but kind of got a hang of it. Good job!

I like the idea of the game it's challenging to play but I like challenging. I like the pixel art and it looks cool and feels unique. left a rate hope you would do as well.

I really love the concept! its an incredible idea! unfortunately i found it really hard to play, the size of the windows is so small and I kept accidentally clicking outside the windows while trying to aim at things, making for quite a frustrating gameplay experience :(
the idea has great potential though! honestly, if i could play this with controller & had some way to make the scale less of a problem, it'd be perfect!
you could genuinely flesh this out and turn it into a full game if you wanted! i'd buy it <3

Thats the most creative game i ever saw! Its Fun &  innovative. cant even compare it to my game. Its just a bit small to look at

Submitted(+1)

Wow, that is a very interesting concept. I've seen meta-type games like this before, but I don't think I've ever seen one that had unique windows for each room.

My only issues would be: on my 27" monitor at 2k resolution, the windows were a bit too tiny for my liking, it was hard to see, and I didn't always understand why I was dying.

Regardless, the art was fantastic, the audio worked well with the retro theme, the basic "mechanic" with the room crawling was, by itself, very entertaining, and the actual combat felt nice to play with.

Very cool game.

I really really like the idea of this, The art is great the music is great. There is just 1 problem. It's still pretty buggy, so a run wouldn't last longer than 1 minute. Sometimes the player would get stuck between rooms and sometimes the game would just decide that you are dead, even though you are in an empty room with no enemy's. I do really like that there is a leaderboard and all the tiny features (Like when you start the game the window does a little bounce)
Overall it was still a really fun game, one of the best onces from the jam. just a bit buggy.

Great game, Keep it up♥

I love the windows popping up and going down part. It took some time to understand why the starting window was so small but when i started the game it all made sense.

love the graphics and the menu bounce in the beginning, also the global ranking in the game, and also when you misclick outside of the level, it will pause the game with a countdown to resume!

sometimes though i got stuck between the levels and died because of that  :'( but hey it was a joy to play it.!

Submitted(+1)

Overall this is really fun and well put together, so I'll mostly complain about what's can be improved)

1. Scale. It's literally painful, to play only because of how tiny everuthing is.

2. Enemies spawnkilling player needs to be fixed. Also their hitboxes remain during death animation, it feels wrong.

Global rankings are cool tho, I almost had enough time to implement those in my game too, but not quite enough. It would be even cooler if you could enter a name and see others' - easy fifth place anyway)

Would be very grateful if you played mine on stream, I think it really does fit for it.
