How does your game fit the theme?
Doorway Dynamo is about picking up and placing doors to enter rooms that you would otherwise not be able to, and finding the Gate Key to escape. However, you can't just be going into rooms without a care in the world! Who knows what might be in there! (A ghost) So make sure to stock up on batteries to fend of any dangerous entities!

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote most of the code, but there were definitely quite a few scripts or code snippets that weren't made from scratch.
I used an 2D tileset asset pack that I bought on humble bundle a few years ago, and modified anything I needed (creating extra animation frames etc.)
All sounds or music came from either freesound or incompetech

That was a great and innovative concept. Satisfying movement, and level design. Though, even the first puzzle was too difficult, it'd be better if there was a simple difficulty curve.

This got suddenly quite scary :S Nice creative puzzle idea with the doors!

Very creative! One of the most innovative game in my opinion.

That ghost at the beginning after the happy hour music scared the hell out of me! The art and sounds feel polished, only thing we need is more levels :D

This is very creative and a whole lot of fun, I find the ghosts a little annoying but I really love the gameplay. One of the tops games of this jam imo.

I'd love to see this game get updates with more levels :)

This was a great game! It controlled smooth, felt nice, and the game design for each floor was different but fun. Innovate use of being able to pick up doors and place them and I like how you had doors with restrictions for puzzles. I do wish I could pick up keys or activate doors when I press the "E" key next to them as well instead of having to hover my mouse over them, but that's a small critique. Also, I know this is kind of odd, but I really liked the way you laid out the UI!

Very fun use of the theme and the game felt great, good job man!

Amazing game! It design felt really polished, and I had a lot of fun playing through the puzzles. It had a nice mix of fun and scary!

I like the different kind of doors and how they behave different. They are really interesting mechanics for a puzzle game! The puzzles designs were good too. Adding the scary element to it, and playing with lighting is a really cool idea. Aaand, it really spices things up not knowing if there's a ghost around the corner!

The only thing that I want to note is that it wasn't that clear to me exactly how ghosts work. I tested it around in the template room but couldn't quite figure it out. Of course, the ghost chases you and tries to hit you until it kills you, that's obvious. But then comes the flashlight. In the intro it's introduced as a way to "fend of" against the ghosts, but despite this, pointing the violet flashlight to a ghost didn't really seem to do much except change their sprites in a PacMan way. They would still follow me, and even hit me if they get to me. That is a little confusing really. If it's something to fend off the ghosts why can they still hit me you know? Then I thought well maybe you have to point it at them for a couple seconds until they leave, but this behavior happens regardless if you use the flashlight or not. After a couple seconds chasing they always turn black and leave. Sooooo, in the end I'm not really sure what the special flashlight does :(.

Anyway, this was a really fun experience!

Thanks for playing! I appreciate the feedback. The intended ghost AI is that upon seeing you in the same room and that you are within a certain range, it will start chasing you for 10 seconds before leaving. Using the violet flashlight would slow the ghosts speed by 60% and leave after 3 seconds instead of 10. The ghost's sprite would be changed to a darker version to indicate that it's patrolling the rooms, while it's white variant would indicate that it's chasing you. The only problem is that it glitches out about like10% of the time and I didn't have enough time to figure out why ahaha. I'm so sorry that bugged out for you! I'll definitely try to fix it after the jam ends, thanks again for playing :)

The environment was actaully very cool. Liked the idea but the levels seems a bit too long and complex, I couldn't fiish Annoying Hallway but the 2nd level was much fun to play. And it fits the theme well

Good the concept and the visual/audio are good. "An actual puzzle?!" level is by far my favourite.

"Annoying Hallway" and "Around the round" feel a bit to long for what you have to do. In the first one i've checked every rooms, it took times, the second one i have go without the box to explore (because i don't know what i have to do with it.), encoutered ghost one/2 times but nothing more, I saw the exit door and done all the way back to push the box all the way to the door again.

"Sorry, is this the exit room ?" I like the concept to run away the ghost, but they are very fast, also you can't really go up, so either you go middle, either down, if you go middle you will likely die (or not, in a second run to test again the level after the ghosts hitted me i was just staying still and the ghost was staying on my character not hurting me before getting away, probably a bug), if you go down the level finish really fast with nothing happening.

Sometimes i got some audio looping, and sometimes maybe the music get a bit toomuch excited while nothing happening.

Overall good game.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I really do appreciate it! My biggest blunder of the game jam was focusing too much on the mechanics and dedicated little time to level design, I spent the most time on "An Actual Puzzle?!" which is why it's probably the most polished one out of all of them. Thank you for playing, I'll definitely adjust the levels after the jam ends :)

Second 5/5 stars I've given. And I haven't even finished the first level. Very impressive

Developer

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Most of the levels were pretty gimmicky so unfortunately I only had time to do one actual puzzle :/

Submitted(+1)

The idea of having different types of doors was quite interesting. Level 3 was by far my favourite. Well done!

Submitted(+1)

Most probably the best game that I've played during the jam so far. The concept is great and the execution is even better. Well done!

Some stuff:

The audio of the enemy being hurt can get stuck on repeat

Fighting the ghosts can be a little rough, although I'm happy to see, that even an A.I. knows how to doorcamp xd

Developer

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback, I didn't get to tune the ghost's AI as well as I wanted to with the lack of time I had but I'll make sure to make it more forgiving and fun after the jam >:)

This game is very impressive, you did all of this in 7 days?! Respect my guy and I like the default youtube background music, really takes me back. and I like how you can pick up doors and place very good game. It would be cool if you can rate my game too.

Developer

Thank you! I thought the tutorial music would be funny haha, I'll make sure to rate your game >:)

This game was so cool! I was really impressed with how many mechanics there were and how fluidly everything worked together! My favorite part was the puzzle level, and I would've loved to play more levels like it. I didn't end up completing "Annoying Hallway" and "Around the World" because of how big the maps were :(. Great work!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing :) Sorry about those two levels ahaha, they were both gimmicky levels. I only had enough time to make one proper puzzle level. I appreciate the feedback!

Great game, I really liked the puzzles, the machanics where fun, It looked good. Overall just a very solid game! The one and only feedback I have is that sometimes you can place your door inside objects it shouldnt be able to be placed in, like walls, outside the map or inside other doors, but thats just a tiny bug. Overall really cool game!

Great game, Keep it up♥
