In what way does your game fit the theme?
In my game you sow the seeds of evolution, and then watch the chaos unfold.
The more chaos you create, the more likely your score when judged will be high!
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code myself in Unity (this can be seen by the slowdown when things get really chaotic!)
Soundtrack was adapted from https://scottholmesmusic.com/
GFX effects were adapted from https://www.gabrielaguiarprod.com/

Everything is so amazing. The game is so satisfying to play and the music is great.
10/10. Stunning.
This is insane. Awesome game idea! Once I understood I kept wanting to do better and better. I ended up with 944. This was so fun and you nailed the game feel, Great Job! I'll def play in the future. You should totally turn this into a full game!
Please rate my game if you get the chance.
Amazing game!
Pretty addictive
Very cool but impossible to understand.
A..... amazing game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great game!!
Amazing, amazing game. Great music and graphics, amazing how such a simple mechanic coupd create a game with so much depth. The online leaderboard is a great addition as well, if I had time I should have added it to my game as well since it is based upon the same premise of maximising your high score. My only gripe is that to me, it doesn't really fit the theme that well. Like, I know chaos is part of the game, but to me the main theme is not about the chaos, but the awe and wonder of scientific discovery, that something so simple could produce something so amazing.
I think if you decide to expand the game you should add more music as well, I love the Interstellar-esque vibe that the game gives off.
I think it is possible to math out the theoretical maximum score you can get with only 60 seeds, so far I haven't been able to make it to 4 digits but I'm curious as to what is the strategy for that.
Update: I just realised there is no theoretical maximum, theoretically with just, say, 2 red, 2 green, and 2 blue, you can let 1 red eat blue, 1 blue eat green, and 1 green eat red and so on until it forms an infinite cycle, the only limit being the time limit and the possibility of one colour overwhelming the others.
Update 2: I managed to break the 4 digit barrier and make it onto the leaderboard with a score of 2093. I think it would be nice if you showed us the score for the other 2 colours as well, since there were a few attempts the balance was tipped the wrong way and I ended up filling the screen with greens/blues instead of reds and was curious how many of them I got. If it's possible you can explore updating the count for each colour as the game progresses instead of counting them individually at the end.
Update 3: I managed to get 3rd place with a score of 3299 :D
Good work on the score! Thanks for the suggestions, there's definitely scope for fleshing this out I think :)
I did actually have to put a cap on the number, as like you say it can sometimes turn into an infinite cycle which was actually hanging the browser :D
I think there's a bug in my code though as it's supposed to cap at 3000 but obviously people are still getting higher, probably for the best really as it's not hanging and it doesn't look like theres a specific hard cap on the scores, so best of both worlds!
Long term I think I can rewrite the renderer/optimise the path finding to allow for more organisms, I just ran out of time...
3108 here!
I'll be honest, I had no idea what was happening, but it was pretty and I had fun watching it happen.
The graphics and sound are amazing, but I seriously don't know what you do. From my understanding, you click and drag until 60 organisms are created, and then you hold click until the time is up, and you repeat the cycle? This has to be wrong according to the comment below, but I couldn't figure out what to do.
Update: I realized you can place multiple types. I got something like 500 at the end. Fantastic game!
Sorry, I think I should have explained it better, nearly everyone is very confused when first playing it!
Glad you worked it out :)
I have played near 40 games yet, but this one is the only took me 2 hours. I just couldn't drop it. I scored 1800 and 1500 (this is 8 and 9 places for now). I tried literally 100 times.
Absolutely excellent, no kidding. 5 out of 5.
Thanks for the great review, it's comments like this that make me think I should continue and expand the game!
Are there any other features would you like to see in a bigger version of the game?
Like a masterpiece, there is already everything what needed. Not more, nor less.
Of course if to speak about a game for wide audience, there might be some more features. Though I would consider keeping current mechanic as a separate game mode. Say freemode or something.
As for additional features, there might be some levels with puzzles. For example, there is some amount of spheres which are already set on screen. Player has only one or two spheres to set up in right place. Another example, more elements like black holes or maybe white spheres which can be eaten by any other.
To tell the truth I don't know if the game can be economically profitable for you, because you know nowadays players like more shooters or runners than relaxing puzzles. So it's only up to you which way to choose for the game.
The only thing that I can say for sure is that I've never written so damn long comments for gamejams lol.
Cheers!
Thanks, some good ideas there, hadn't thought about the puzzle idea on preset up screens before.
Yes I agree it would be hard to make money out of, and I'd definitely keep the existing gameplay in as one mode.
I did try and focus my efforts on something achievable in a jam, which I think has ended up with something that may be difficult to extend without breaking it!
Glad that you like it as is, sometimes simple is best :D
Pretty solid game! Loved the idea, though I didn´t understand it at first, but once you get the hang of it you can play forever to achieve a higher score. You really nailed this one!
Very fun and addictive game! Love your use of the theme, I could play this game for hours :D
Really well made game. Took me a minute to understand what to do and how to win exactly but it's very interesting to try different strategies and see how the cells react!
Loved it!
cool looking.
Very fun, very original
I don't know why when I first started making my entry, I forgot that evolution could be chaotic. Indeed, with the right orb setup, this can get quite chaotic, really fast! Loving the soundtrack and the graphics! Plus, pulling off online stuff, even if it's only leaderboards, is something I rarely see in game jams!
Did not encounter major bugs, though I would have liked to see a reset or erase button at the placing orbs step. When I try to do a specific setup and I mess it up, I currently need to go through all other steps to come back to this one.
Minus that, great original entry, amazing job!
1107 - I knew I must have done something right when my computer slowed down to a crawl :D
Really enjoy the concept, creating a complex reaction from very simple initial conditions. the game rewards a bit of experimentation but maybe it would be cool to start small and then scale up to learn the basic rules of interaction in a more intuitive way, starting with 60 seeds(?) makes it a bit tricky to follow what's going on initially. But the reaction is mesmerising, very cool particle effects! Like the graphical style and calming music, very nice!
Good idea to start off with a lower number and introduce the interactions, I may well use that in future, thanks!
Chaos from simple rules that is what i like to see :D Definetly the most interesting game in this jam i have played so far :] Also the scoreboard is a great addition !
Sadly i think in current state the game is more like a simulation rather than a game :/ I would like to see more interactions with the player in some way :]
Overall this was a refreshing experience from playing other jam games. I loved it great work !
Thanks, yep given more time I could expand it to let you interact in the main phase too, perhaps drop a black hole to pull organisms towards it, or a tornado type effect to mix them all up
Could add the ability to mutate an existing organism to change its colour as well, to get things back on track when it all goes a bit wrong!
Hi, I enjoyed playing this, graphics are simple and effective, the soundtrack is good and the mechanics and strategy of trying to create as many reds as possible by strategic placement of the 3 types was interesting - I managed 612 as my highest score. The addition of a leaderboard was a nice touch and added some replayability. Bit disappointed to miss out on the top 10.
Perhaps some variety could be added (walls? etc) to give a few different scenarios and leaderboards for each - but with the time we had this does the job nicely.
Well done.
AWESOME!
Amazing game concept...Loved the evolution theme that did show some chaos in it
