Ranked from 25 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does you game fit the theme?
Through puzzle-solving elements, the player will experience a variety of optical illusions which may seem "unreal". On another note, the story is incorporated with the theme.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Pieces of code were either my own older code from previous games or the help of the internet. Most of it is made from scratch. The same goes for the assets. All of the models were designed during this jam, whilst the animations and sound were found on the internet.

A dungeon without skeletons? Heretical.

Other than that, a well-presented game. took me a second at the last level to realize it had to be the camera that goes through the tunnels? Portals? whatever those arches were, it caused me a bit of confusion. Loved the atmosphere and the puzzles were well thought out. Great job!

Developer

That is true - the skeletons would be a nice touch. Thanks for the advice!

Yup, I thought that might confuse people. I considered various ways of when to trigger the transition, but this seemed the most reasonable. I thought about moving the camera closer to the player so it'd be barely impossible to walk through the arch without the transition, but I think this has it's own perks and disadvantages. E.g. you can move the player through the arch and move camera around him and see him in both worlds, depending on the camera orientation (which I think looks cool). That's why I spawn arrows on top of the arch (if you don't move through any arch in a while) to help the player from which side to enter the arch.

Anyways, thank you for playing and for this review. :)

Love the perspective and design of this game. Almost commercial level indie! The look plays into the really cool mechanic of moving the camera through a gate. Reminded me of antichamber a bit. The music fit the atmosphere well. My biggest feedback would be that solving the puzzles felt more like undirected search and less like there was a clear goal to work towards. As a result, the search towards and finding the solution were not always rewarding for me personally.

One of the coolest games I saw in this jam!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for taking your time to play the game and to write this lovely review.

Haven't heard of the Antichamber, but I will definitely be checking it out. Most of the gameplay mechanics for this game were actually inspired by the Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

And yeah - I get what you mean by not feeling rewarded. I will definitely try to work on that in the next iteration! Thank you for pointing that out. :)

A really awesome game! I found the story touching, seeing the interactions between the player and NPC. The deja-vu mechanics were also very unique, with both the gates and the repeating hallways being a delightful surprise. The only critique I have is that the camera seems just a bit too sensitive, to the point that it can be a little disorienting. But the art, music, story and gameplay were all excellent; great work!

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind words, I'm really glad you played and enjoyed the game.

As for the camera - point taken! I definitely planned on improving overall character movement but ended up focusing mainly on the illusion part of the game. Surely, I'll work on it in the future, thanks for the tip. :)

This game is super cool. The transitions are smooth, and messed with my brain. Awesome work!

Your game is better than ours. I really hope you get the 20 ratings.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the encouragement! I'll check out your game as well! :)

Frankly we don't need the rates, but we'd love your perspective on our game! I really hope you get the 20.

I loved the hallway part where I ran but didn't actually go forward. cool idea. And the animations look so smooth. I guess the only thing that bothered me was that there was no mouse lock, I use dual monitors so my mouse was coming off the screen.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked the idea. Ahh, sorry about it - didn't even think of that since I don't have dual monitors, but I'll try to fix that in the next game iteration! :)

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it. :)

Wow the mechanics were really well done! It was so cool you could look through the doorway to see what was on the other side. The player movement could be tighter, and Niir's textbox could be bigger, but overall very good!

Developer

Thank you for playing the game, glad you liked it! :) And thanks for the heads up about the movement and GUI choices, I'll definitely try to improve them in the future.

Very nice fluid controls and animations. But the audio didn't work for me. No music or sfx. Deja vu concept is  a match.Well Done!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! Sorry about the audio though, hope it didn't ruin it too much for you

Thank you! :)

The optical illusions were very cool! I am stiil thinking about that infinite hall and how you did it. Great job!

Developer

Thanks, glad I intrigued you. :)

The short version is making an extra, duplicated, version of the part of the scene and "teleporting" the player on the start of the original scene part once he reaches the fake. The long version is polishing that base idea so it seems seamless.

Really cool game! Sometimes it feels a bit empty but despite of that it was a good experience :)

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it. :)
Yeah, I spent too much time on gameplay mechanics and didn't have time to model stuff out. But, thanks for the feedback! :)
