How does your game fit the theme?
The theme is used in the macro game loop and in the micro stage loop. In the overall game arc, the player reaches the end of their ascent, but find they really just arrive at a new beginning to the next stage of ascent; this happens multiple times. At the micro level, within each stage of the ascent, the player climbs a ladder as high as they are able (the 'end' of the ladder), and jump back to the ground (the 'beginning' of their climb), each time this happens, something new is available.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Reused a generic player controller. Used art and sounds assets that are CC0 and CC-BY-3. Credits included in game.

Great game!

Loved the character animations as well as the other art. Sounds complemented rest of game well and game fits the theme perfectly. Really nice concept. I really enjoyed this entry, one of my favourites of the jam thus far!

love the character a lot

Amazing graphics! Love the animation and little effects you added to make it more detailed and immersive!

Wow! cool art!

I tried 3 cycles thinking something different would happen haha

Great work, i just think it needs more puzzles with different things, i wish i could use the "throw rock" mechanic more

Thank you for playing and leaving comments.  I've added a 'spoiler' and 'ideas based on jam comments' section to the game page.  Based on the spoiler, it may explain the lack of variation.  However, if the game is extended, I think you're right that each loop should have more variation and use the throw rock (and crouch skill, which wasn't really used yet) a lot more.

Nicely done platformer.  Puzzles were a little repetitive, but definitely had fun with this one!

Really nice little platform puzzle game. Very original idea. One piece of feedback is that I think you couldve added a little more variety in the puzzles. Overall good job!

I can't believe I played it for a few cycles trying to get to hell instead of heaven! Couldn't make it, thought there was secret puzzle. Still a fun game nevertheless!

Developer

Thanks for playing and your comments.  I've added a 'spoiler' and 'ideas based on jam comments' section to the game page.  A secret puzzle is a great idea for breaking out.

I liked the idea and the gameplay. The textures also reminded me Terraria smh. Cool animations. Maybe more could be revealed at 3rd loop and we could see what's that underground hell looks like.

Developer

Thanks for playing and your comments.  I've added a 'spoiler' and 'ideas based on jam comments' section to the game page.  An explorable hell-scape is definitely something that an expanded game could have after the Jam.  I'm glad you were interested to explore it.  Heck, I'm glad you caught on that it was 'hell' (or an dark evil underworld).

I love the ear flopping animation. I kept playing after 3 iterations hoping that there was more. That maybe I could zoom out even further and reveal a playable hell level. Good Job.

WOW thats nice

I had a good laugh with this. You don't need the duck/crouch unless there's something I didn't catch. I stopped after the 2nd "iteration" but I was hoping to see what "lurked below". Other direction is when the camera zooms out, seeing what's below also along the sides like the player is surrounded.

Fear the ladder!

Thanks for playing and your comments.  I've added a 'spoiler' and 'ideas based on jam comments' section to the game page.  Exploring what lurked below is something that an expanded game could have after the Jam.  I'm glad you were interested to explore it.  I did intend (and tried) to have the hell-scape surround the sides (and even the top) to show the ascent was taking place in a bubble inside the reality...but I ran out of time to make it look good.  We're on the same page though about 'surrounding' the player would have even more impact.

I like the simplist of the game art :)

Art is great, music is magnificent, and the story is just wow!

Such and unexpexted ending, that was hillarious :D

Thank you for playing and the kind comments.  I'm glad you enjoyed the dark humor of it!

Very nice

A really innovative and fun game.

Very well done. I've seen a ton of such games over the years, but every time I am amazed at how well a lot of them are done and this is no exception. Keep it up! I agree that with the other commenter, after the reincarnation there seems to be a camera zoom issue.

Developer

Thank you for playing and the kind comments.   I've added a 'spoiler' and 'ideas based on jam comments' section to the game page.  The zoom is purposeful, but can be improved (and needs to be in cases where the game becomes unplayable due to gaming hardware).

Submitted

Yeah, maybe because my monitors are pretty big and when things zoomed out everything became really tiny. I know WebGL is not great for things like that...especially on a short time frame.

Submitted

The game is very cool in every way, the best themed game I've seen so fa

Absolutely love the idea and the game itself, but for some reason, the camera zoomed out after getting the star, and never returned to it's original scale. This made a different part of the map visible, while making it kinda unplayeable. But still great!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the comment and feedback.  I just wanted to let you know that you still saw the ‘full’ game (after getting the star you literally start over for your next ascent in a never-ending cycle).  You’ve also helped to reinforce my need to better consider gameplay on different hardware that may impact the experience.

Currently the camera stays zoomed out to reinforce the foreboding atmosphere.  You make a great point; I should consider partial to full re-zoom or provide a button so the player to return the zoom to normal.

Developer

I've added a 'spoiler' and 'ideas based on jam comments' section to the game page.  You're right, I need to address the game becoming unplayable with the zoom-out.
