Ranked from 42 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does your game fit the theme?
The player's death (end) brings about more powers in the player's rebirth (beginnings).

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
CriticalDesign and I have, yes. It was a lot of fun. The only assets we did not make are the sound/music which I gained from a HumbleBundle meant for sound/music for indie game devs.

Why don't I get any additional power after the second death? Is it just me? I can just restart the game. Overall, nice game.

Developer

Only the first death will grant an ability with each different thing, aside from the boss. Otherwise there would be no end.

Neat game. Really liked the gameplay and the audio for it. The interpretation of theme is really good, and well-executed.

Good Job!

Developer

Thanks ShubhSingh! Glad you liked it.

This is such a cool game! The concept about gaining power through dying is really good, you just need some new and unique enemies, cuz after some time it gets a bit repetitive

Developer(+2)

Thanks for the feedback. Hey, Game Jams are limited in time so having 4 different enemies was a lot ;).

Submitted(+2)

Unfortunately lol

My game just had 3 enemies, you managed to do much more, I can see you worked hard on it

Submitted(+2)

This is really great. Good take on the theme and nice work on the visuals and gameplay. I'd love to see the next iterations.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the information!

Looks great! I enjoyed this game. Would have liked it to have been better balanced at the start (I only had a sword but had a group of 10+ enemies chasing me) and I never like attacking in the direction of movement - a twin-stick approach would be nicer.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback.

I like the respawn animation a lot. The game was pretty fun but got repetetive. Run, shoot, repeat. Adding some enemies with projectiles of their own could mix up combat a bit. More unique enemy types in general would be good. Then the player would have to choose which targets to focus first. The fire and ice enemies were a good idea, but the ice enemies seemed to lag behing so I was always seeing just skeletons and fire dudes. So I would just spam fire bolts to clean out skeletons, then just swap for a second and spam green balls. I think there should be more of a penalty for hitting a fire dude with a fire bolt, besides him just getting bigger.  Good job tho, I enjoyed it :)

Thanks for playing and your feedback.

I liked the character's design, and the music is on point, I got overwhelmed by enemies very quick but I think that's ok for a prototype, it reminded me of the first zelda game, has a similar vibe, very good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah, it's always a challenge with tuning difficulty for sure.

Submitted(+2)

Your games name is similar to mine 😁but we have a different concept, the game was fun to play, What I would suggest maybe you can add crafting 🗿like gather wood to start a campfire and this keeps the monsters away or something along those lines, I see potential in this game. great job!

Developer(+1)

AHAHAHA! We barely had time for this with our full time jobs as well. If we built this out to a full game, I know CriticalDesign has a TON of ideas. I have plenty as well. It all depends on the direction we decide to take if we continue this as a hobby piece. I am glad you had fun!

Submitted(+2)

Cool game :) I like the idea that ice golem gets bigger if you hit it with ice. The run animation was nice too. I guess it could use some more balancing.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. The ice guys (I named them Permafrosts) also get smaller by fire. The fire guys (Flynts) do the same with fire/ice in their own way.

This is pretty cool. I really like how you have to switch elements to fight different elements or you'll end up healing them. The concept of dying to different enemies to get different powers is really cool. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is that the enemies kind of attack you instantly once you get too close. But that's not a super big deal once you get a projectile. Overall, a great game with a really cool interpretation of the theme!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, good point there on the enemy damaging immediately. We were going after a Vampire Survivors vibe but with some twists to it. Glad you enjoyed the game and thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+2)

yeah fun game. i like all the abilities and the fact that using the same element attack on the elemental enemies would make them bigger.  the sword kind of became useless after gaining the abilities though so maybe something to make it more viable would be cool. good game.

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah, I ignored the sword as well once I had at least 2 of the spells. Something to definitely look back on the game design to re-introduce it as a useful tool. Glad to hear you had fun :D

Submitted(+2)

Awesome game, I like how the elemental powers can make the enemies stronger if you're not being careful. Also great character design. The revival animation is so cool. Great work! Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you liked it. The elementals also shring if using the opposite power on them ;). I had fun animating and spent a bit too long on the fire at times :P.

Cool game! I loved the art style of the characters (especially phoenix knight!).

LMB as the slash attack was a little counter-intuitive on keyboard. I kept trying to kite and attack backwards, forgetting that I have to turn to actually attack the enemies behind me.

Just a little pet peeve though, great game!

Developer

Thanks for the input. I'm not used to using keyboard and mouse for games so I'm never sure what's really best.

Submitted(+2)

very cool game, well integrated and fun, it's hard to play sometimes but maybe i'ts just because I'm bad haha

congratulations on finishing your game

Developer(+1)

Aw thanks. I was originally thinking of it being harder but CriticalDesign talked some sense to me about it being too hard before :P.

And congrats to you too!

Submitted(+2)

Cool game, i like everything.  very cool owo

Developer

Thanks!

Submitted(+2)

Cool game, i like the visuals and music a lot. The idea with the elementals growing bigger if you hit them with the same was original :) Good job.

Here is my (first) game jam entry, check it out if you like:  https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1932821

Developer

I was glad CriticalDesign implimented that and had time to. I was thinking it was a nice touch that wouldn't have time to be added in. They even get more health! They also shrink when hit with opposing element type.

Submitted(+2)

Nice use of the theme, I like how you get a different abiltiy based on what kills you.

Developer

Thanks. Yeah, that was fun to do. I wish we had time to add something from the Iron Golem.

Submitted(+2)

Loved it! I think it is one of the only vampire survival-like games. Give me my game a shot!

Developer

Yeah, I'm actually really surprised by that. That was all CriticalDesign's idea. I was expecting to see MANY more VS-like games.

Submitted(+1)

I was too after the mobile game came out, but ig not!

Submitted(+2)

the difficulty is crazy' both in a good and a bad way. could have been much easier if the cursor decided where to shoot and not your movment. very fun and a cool idea. we killed the iron golem!!!

Developer

I agree on cursor support. Right on with taking down the Iron Golem!

Submitted(+1)

nice game

Developer

Thanks Lucas.
