Really smooth and addictive gameplay. Love the music  :)

This might be my favorite game of the jam! I really enjoyed the concept. It's simple but has some very fun mechanics. It is an incredibly polished game too! I love the sound effects and the player's momentum. It just feels so good to run and hit enemies. I could play this game for a lot longer. It was really fun! Maybe some checkpoints or permanent progression could add even more replayability!

I hope you will rate my game and follow me too!

Fun and polished game that gets hard as nails at times! Great character animations and flow in the movement. Left me wanting more!

Very fun and nicely polished game. I can easily see myself playing this again when I have the time.

Fun game. I like that the camera stopped when I hit a wall and didn't force me to die by continuing to move. Good strategy having the floating eyeball thing too. I like the simple controls

I wish the ground slam was more useful.

Why are the important keys Z and X? I kept pressing the Windows button.

Making the "spikes" not katanas would have shown that they are deadly.

Developer(+1)

The slam is perhaps not as useful as the other two upgrades, but it does play a pretty important role as a movement tool - especially against the eyes and the last boss, moving up and down is crucial. Or when falling right into a trap with no way out, but not being above it yet.

It seems pretty common for such games to use Z and X, but you're right, there could have at least been more options.

The intention for the spikes was not really to be katanas. They are sort of "facing" you - when they were completely vertical it was a bit odd to me that you'd get damaged when running into them from the side. I believed their spiky nature is enough to imply danger.

This game is simple, but it's also really fun to play! If there's time to be killed and a wish to have fun, this is the game!

Cool game, nice slash and very well put together visual package!

Would love it if you tried ours! :D

I could play this all day! The visuals are amazing and the slashing feels so satisfying :0

Awseome! The game control is very comfortable!

I really like that I only have to worry about the attack and jump actions. I found that I don't much like moving with arrow keys so it was a nice change of pace. Has a very good difficulty balance and the procedural generation felt really nice as well. I didn't make it all that far, but had a great time playing it!

Nice game! I couldn't hear the sounds nor the music, but maybe is my browser's fault, I don't know. The game is fun, and due to its simple controls it could be easily adapted into a mobile game :)

Developer

Oh, that's a huge shame, I feel the sound does add a lot to the game. Can I ask what browser are you using, and on what platform? Are you able to try the downloadable Windows version perhaps?

Submitted

It was Chrome and Windows, but I have tried again and it works now, weird.

It's true that the sound adds to the game and the music is great, although I feel that the sound balance could be improved. Specifically there are some sounds that are louder than they should imo, for instance the sounds when hitting an enemy or when the player is hit. I feel that the downloadable version sound is even more unbalanced, but that may just be not true and only my impression.

Developer (1 edit)

Indeed that's odd. I'll try to look into it, but honestly not sure how.

The sound of being hit or hitting are important, so they are intentionally louder, but of course it might be too much. And the sound balance can absolutely be different between platforms - I didn't really notice it in this game, but when I was exporting https://ralh.itch.io/fastest-gun-in-the-west to Android there were massive differences, some decently loud sounds were suddenly completely silent. I had to explicitly set the volume of every sound per platform. And of course this only happens in the final build, so it's really annoying to test.

I liked it.

I think, the game is just perfect, the player responds beautiful. I love the  art, it really makes me go YES!

I love the 8-bit style and my suggestion is just - change the player jump to add a gravity modifier. This is so that the player drops faster as it comes down, giving a very realistic feel.

Awesome Job :D

Pretty cool, I like the random generation.

My constructive criticism would be to make the level change after each death, since it's random on startup anyways, and to change the sword swing sound. It's just a little off putting how in an 8bit style game most of the sounds are 8 bit except for the sword swing, haha.

Hi,
Thanks for the comment!

The sword sound is actually like something you can get out of sfxr, so retro in a way, but maybe you are right that it feels too realistic.

I don't really understand what you mean by level change after each death? Except the very first platform, every subsequent one is random and generated as you run.

Submitted

First of all, I guess I wasn't paying enough attention with the level generation then. My bad!

Second of all, it's crazy that you got that sound out of sfxr! I heard it and assumed it was sampled from somewhere.

Nice job on the game, dude!

Very good game feel and I like the little bit of progression. A bit tough but not too much. The graphics were simple but consistent. A checkpoint or two would have been nice.  Awesome work!

Check out and rate our game too!

Love it, the sound effects are nice and the attacks are satisfying.

Never managed to finish it, but it was one of my favourites in the jam! Awesome art style and soundtrack, the gameplay feels great and the overall game is reaaally adictive!

Submitted

Very fun game! A high-score system would've made it even better, but great job!

Yooo cool game
