What new features have you put in your game that you've never tried before?

This is my first Game Jam and I've pushed the boat out a little in what I've done compared to past projects, I've never done character rigging/animation before which has been quite an enlightening experience, I'm wandering what other people have done that they've not done before

So neither of us had ever even attempted making a point and click adventure game before so needless to say while it wasn't hard to figure out it was new for us. There was a little bickering about the code and who's was prettier but in the end I think we got some valuable experience for if we ever try again.

Nice 馃榾

I tried out a crossword puzzle game. It was tough to design and tedious to implement, but it was super fun

I might try something out in the future with this kind of design.
It was kinda fun.

yeah I think that's the good thing about this jam timescale, gives you enough time to try something new and take it forward of you want to

Quite a lot of things, for example, my friend and I worked as a team for the first time, but the most interesting thing for me specifically is that I completely modeled the characters for the first time. Usually I only deal with props and environments, but now I tried characters and it seems to work out well :)

Collaboration can be tough so thats good you guys have got that to work 馃憤

I tried to make my game play like RPG's from the '90 and I think the effect is pretty cool

awesome 馃榾

Can't wait to try

sound, new engine, rebound and particles.

particles are a good one to get used to, cheap way to do a lot of fun stuff, I'll check it out

I made some things I've never done before, I made:

-puzzles that plays out like those "rock pushing puzzles" you would see in a few caves in Pokemon (and making some puzzles were a lot trickier than expected for designing),

-having the ability to switch to one of the 2 different levels you can go to at the end of a maze

-multiple endings

There are probably a few more that I'm forgetting but at the end it was pretty tough to get this done and I'm glad I somehow managed to get through most of it :)

ooo multiple endings is interesting. I struggle just getting one done 馃槄

I made my own Level Editor to help out designing the levels while developing the game. I realized later that I wasn't very efficient with the code for the level editor and that I lost a lot of time grinding that long line of code. The positive thing about making that level editor, despite me being very inefficient, is that I later figured out a much simpler and more efficient way to code that level editor that I can try for my next game.

First time trying out the cloth component.  Used cloth and a little camera trick to add a nice little surprise to the end of my game loop.

We implemented split-screen coop as a feature we've never done before. It adds a lot to it!

If you like check it out: https://rarewaters.itch.io/crozy-herbest

I'll check it out, never even attempted that myself so interested to see if you got it working

This wasn't my first game jam, but was the first time I did the programming for one in addition to the art. Also my first solo jam. And the first time I've turned in something completed. This is the first time in any project I've done where I have:

- Had a start screen

- Swapped scenes in Unity

- Had background music and sound effects/made sound effects

- Made a currency system

- Made a timer

- Had multiple endings

My game is far from perfect, but I learned so much making it. I can't wait to apply my new skills to the next game jam I participate in!

I've never put good melee attacks into the games of mine before.

I used completely the new input system, that made it 2 days not so cozy, in the end I had to downgrade to 1.3.0. version to solve all issues. I made my very first Minimap and procedural terrain maze for this gamejam, so I learned much about the difference between worldspace and voxel terrain space. And I made a unique game mechanic: You have to run with the bunnys home together, not only collect them. So I am happy, whatever the voting result will be.  https://hitbox-games.itch.io/rabbit-in-autumn

that's a really nice detail, I'll check it ou

I've always wanted to test the concept of a character that can move objects with its mind (Telekinetic powers). So I've implemented this concept with my game.

This year has been my first year doing anything like this, so pretty much every game jam I do, there is something new being put in I've never tried before. One thing that was super awesome though was that my team put a dynamic music system in our game for this jam! Our game is about reminiscing with an old friend by drawing, so we used musical cues to guide the player to the right things to draw. When you are looking around, an ambient music loop plays, and when you start drawing the correct object for a certain period of time, the music will change to a more melodic loop. Finally, when you send the drawing, it plays this big musical flourish and then begins playing the next set of tracks. There were other new things I tried for this jam, like shaders, dialogue, etc but I had the most fun working with our composer on this!

First time making a scavenger hunt game.  I was able  to get more experience with level design and a roaming playable character

Overall I think it turned out well but theres always room for improvement :)

It was my second game ever made so pretty much everything I did was new to me. The animation the pixelart, thinking up a UI Layout, etc. Xan, who did the programming was very knowledgeable about his side of things though. I bought aseprite to make this game 馃槀 (Cozy Harvest) I'm really proud of it.

I never did any kind of game jam before let alone finish a game, so it feels quiet nice to have accomplished something :)
Also i have never done a card game before, and getting the feel of drawing and playing cards right was kinda tideous but worth it in the end.

We made a roguelike bullet hell game, and this is the first game I've attemped to make an online leaderboard, and a save file, so you can keep your progress between sessions. If anyone wants to try it to get to the top of the leaderboards, this ir our game:
