Honestly, really well done! Polished and simple, I like it! Level design is tight, too, not every level can be completed first-try! All the art is great, I really love the parallax effect in the background! Also, sound effects and music choice is great here, too! Awesome job for a first major game!
Thanks so much!
This is game is just too good to be first time. It's awesome!
Thanks so much!
i have made a few little prototypes before, and i have a lot of previous game experience from Scratch when i was younger, and I've been doing a lot of art for a long time
so it's my first major game, but I've had a lot of previous practice :)
btw i tried your game it was really fun minus being extremely difficult :D
Wrong way lol
true
Really nice game. I loved the roller coaster effect when you are going up a big hill with anticipation of what coming next. And i like the dead end with some grafity in level 3 haha.
YAY SOMEONE FOUND IT FINNALY
there might also be another one somewhere too ;)
I found the died end secret like 3 days ago, and I thought I found a shortcut.
Honestly, for a first game jam this is some amazingly high quality stuff. Most first jammers tend to aim for scopes too large to be done reasonably well in the time given, but you kept to something small and fun so that you could polish it to a tee, and its 100% paid off so well. The music is so jazzy and fits the whole cozy skating so well, and the pixel art is stellar! (You even kept everything to the right scaling :D) Also the SFX of the skating is surprisingly nice too, like oooo it tickles my brain
If I were to find areas of improvement, it'd just be small minute things. For example, having a simple animation/alt sprite of a button being pressed down helps gives buttons some tactility (if thats the right word), so yknow they feel like actual buttons.
I guess another thing from an art perspective is that I'm not sure if the bird needs an outline, as the bright colours contrast really well with the darker orange background, so its already pretty visible! Adding the outline kinda makes it feel like its from a different game, as nothing else bar the title is outlined. Again, its a minor thing, so not something to worry about.
In the end I'd just love to see more of this! More levels, biomes, skateboard styles, a few animations of the bird doing tricks and such, etc. You've got a really nice chill game here thats really enjoyable, and I'd love to see you take it further!
Thanks so much for all the praise and advice! I will definitely keep it in mind for future games :)
Simple and fun! Big fan of the very forgiving physics of this skateboard. My only want is that I could see a bit further forward and down to be able to time my jumps/falls.
Thanks!
I agree the camera could be a bit wider but there were some issues with the background that i didn't have time to fix that were preventing me from making the camera any bigger :(
glad you still enjoyed the game :)
Simple yet addictive gameplay. I couldn't stop until I beat every level. Wonderful work!!
Thanks so much!
Fun and very satisfying small casual game. I went straight into the 6th level to see how hard will it gets and made it first try. Hope there was more difficult ones. But very aestheticaly pleasing and the sound design was spot on!
Thanks!
I find level 2 or 3 to be the hardest, I probably should've made more of a difficulty curve :\
I have played only sixth and first. I’ll get back to them then!
Yeah 2-5 are a lot harder :D even found the "wrong way lol" - nice easteregg
Very polished and satisfying!
Thanks so much!
such an awesome little game! Impressive in so many ways. Can’t wait to see what you do next
Thanks! I will be starting a new game project soon, so drop a follow if you wanna be notified when I do :)
(hehehe shameless self promotion)
Holy crap this is really good. And your first game jam??? Well done!
Thanks so much! I have had a small amount of previous experience, (mostly on the art side) but am greatly enjoying the Godot workflow.
Loved the music, sound and art! Would love to be able to see a bit farther ahead though, was pretty hard to prepare for some of the jumps. Great job!
Thanks! I agree i should have made the camera a bit wider :/
Wow this is really polished and well done! Love the parallax trees in the background and the cute little character. Big fan, really fun short and captures the fun of the jam. Great job!
Thanks!
Really nice game! I had fun playing this and it worked very smoothly. I liked the palette and you polished the details really well (parallax, screen transitions, the low-pass filter on crashes, etc.). I also liked how there was an alternative path to take. In further development, you might consider rewarding the player (in points or similar) for moving more quickly through the board, or add jumps that require speed; as it stands, it felt like a benefit to skate in a way that slowed you down (e.g., riding through bumps rather than jump them, hitting lips, etc.), so that the difficult jumps didn't come at you so fast. Then again, maybe that would kill the chill vibe that people have enjoyed...
Nice job!
Thank you! I definitely agree with you ideas, I will probably add some stuff like that at a later point.
Glad you enjoyed my game!
very fire!!! fun to play :)
Happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Loveeee this game, super relaxing and love the main character! Could totally see myself playing this game every day if it was eventually ported to be a phone game haha!
Thanks! I actually had mobile compatibility in mind when making it :)
Some day in the future for sure! It would be great for it!
Also if you have discord, you should add me! My discord is the same as my username on here (RaceAceTM) and i'd love to talk cause I am a newer dev too, and this was also my first try at godot haha!
Unfortunately I don't :(
if I ever get it I'll try to remember you, I also love Godot :D
Sounds good! If you have any way to talk, i'd love to talk to you sometime, for the first game you've ever made this is awesome, and i'd love to know how you do some stuff! Keep working though in the meantime, I love your style so far!
Ok! ill probably be posting progress on future games here (the devLog feature looks kinda cool) so just keep an eye out for that!
Really good game! The art is so nice to look at and the gameplay is a perfect mix between challenging and relaxing. Excellent entry, well done!!
Thanks so much!
This is a super good game! I love how you can gain momentum and the, music, SFX, and art are super good. My only feedback is that the game could use coyote time and a bigger FOV. Great job!
Thank you so much! I agree with your criticisms I didn't spend as much time as i would've liked on tweaking and polish, hopefully will keep that in mind in the future.
Thanks again for your feedback!
This was really cool, good entry.
My only feedback is the start menu shouldn't move that much. The buttons moving aways feels like the game doesn't want to be played haha
lol thanks, the extreme bounciness was actually accidental, and I didn't feel like bothering to fix it :P
i find the bounciness to be kinda fun and silly anyways :D
Happy to hear you enjoyed the game!
Really fun game! Found that the player will continue to animate and play the skating sound if you pause on the Level Failed screen, in case you weren't aware. Really great game though.
Thanks for letting me know of the bug, I don't think it messes with any actual gameplay so I'm not too worried about it :)
Glad you enjoyed the game!
