Did I get the world record for finishing the game in 5 seconds?

I am confused about how to play but maybe it is just me playing at 3am after 50 games.

The game seems really solid. Great entry.

Developer

hey! refer to the help document if you feel a bit confused; although it is possible that the web gl build was just glitching out (sorry about that)!

And there is a ending where u go through the portal (the big red thing), but thats just kind of there as a joke! the real ending can be reached by going towards the glowing blue beacon(which is just there to make the game a bit easier for this jam!)

I apologized for that. I have been rating for 12 hours and my brain is not processing much anymore. I will give it a try again tomorrow though! :)

I got endings 1 and 2. Good sounds, I liked the 'whosh' sound when rotating and the exploration background music. The spikes were fun, i guess if i wasn't running everywhere i would get poisoned less :) I also liked your nice help menu. Thanks for the entertaining game!

Developer

thanks! im glad you liked it! and regarding the whosh sound, its honestly pretty cool what you can do with a halfway decent lav mic xD

I got endings 1, 3, 4, all were cool (1 is the best, obviously). Very good use of the theme, the game is smooth, it's fun to finish with and without transforming. Congratulations.

Developer

Thanks! im glad you enjoyed!

Met the theme pretty well, was quite fun once I got the hang of it, thought the mulitple endings were also pretty cool. Wasn't the biggest fan of the robot voice or beeping but it does go with the retro theme

Developer

Thanks! Im glad you enjoyed and yes the voice is a bit harsh right now, ill edit the voice a bit!

Submitted

I liked the distorted voice, but couldn't make out what it was saying. Also it was very loud and no option to lower the volume.

Also missing the option to quit the game.

Other than that it's a fun game, solid submission.

Developer

Hey thanks! I should add some subtitles to the game! and yes the audio is a bit too loud and i forgot to add a quit option which would be fixed in the coming update, thanks alot!

Interesting game, I managed to clip outside of the map at one point, but still couldn't get to the end! The duality of the character had a definite jekyll and hyde feel which worked well.

Developer

Hey! thanks for playing the game! And in fact jekyll and hyde is one of the influences for this game, glad you noticed!

also thats really weird; i have a few redundancies to prevent clipping outside the map; could you tell me where on the map, approximately this happened? and also mention which system you are running this on.

additionally if you have the time could you also try to recreate the bug and send me a screen recording if you manage to recreate it? Thanks either way, ill take a look at it myself too!

Good job, nice game ! Congrats.

Have a good horror dungeon experience, but the game haven't any exit method(Except Alt+F4).

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! and yep i completely forgot about adding an exit method which is honestly something i couldve added pretty easily smh

Good job with this entry!

Unfortunately I didn't come very far hehe, so I didn't get the full experience. But I must say i really liked the aesthetics of your game. I didn't find out how to avoid the spikes, and I had my earphone-volume on max in the beginning with the distorted sounds hehe..

But overall a good game!

Developer

Hey! the spikes are triggered when you step on a hidden pressure plate (i say hidden but its easy to see if you know what you are looking for (a raised section of ground)) to avoid the trap, you just need to wait a turn on the pressure plate (space or just look around)! and to be fair i didnt really balance the game audio that well hehe it doesnt even have a volume option! And thanks for playing!

I always appreciate a game that lets me bail out at the start and get an early ending. I like how you implemented the duality mechanic, and it did a good job of tempting me over to the dark side.

Developer

Hey! Im glad you enjoyed the game!

Submitted

Unfortunately i am bad at mazes, but overall a great game with cool idea, graphics and sound design! Also loved the fact that i could just go away (: For me mechanic of spikes was weird since i could not avoid them and always took damage, but it did not bother too much

Developer(+1)

Hey! the spikes are triggered when you step on the pressure plate which is hidden but its easy to see if you know what you are looking for (a raised section of ground) and if you step on the plate, you just need to wait a turn on the plate itself to avoid the trap (either by turning or by pressing space)! And thanks for playing!

Unfortunately I was only able to get the cowardice win, but I felt that it was a good time. A little difficult but I am not good at mazes. I liked the fell and had a fun time running around like a chicken with its head cut off :P

Developer

haha maybe a few landmarks in the next updates would help, thanks for playing!

Wow! I loved this entry.

Fantastic graphics that are very retro. I really enjoyed it. Music really added to the experience too!

Quite challenging and fun. It brought me back to my child hood dungeon crawling and drawing out maps by hands.

Thank you for this entry!

Developer

thanks! im glad you enjoyed it! I tried to make the game pretty chalenging on purpose but i hope it wasnt unfair! and indeed for future updates drawing out the map by hand and taking notes would be encouraged if not required! its just that much more immersive imo!

Submitted(+1)

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I loved the hand drawn map <3

Thanks again for a great time!

Hey man, checked your game

  • nice graphics style, big and retro sprites, loved it :)
  • nice spooky music background
  • very challenging! large maps and no auto-map and these skulls to hunt you down :) loved it!
  • when I finally found the right turn, after relentless trying, I was overwhelmed by an army of skull :( But I kept trying :)
  • when I tried to quit, ESC didn't do anything? I had to ctrl+alt+delete

Overall, a proper and creepy first person dungeon crawling survival experience.. It brought back memories from old classic Into the Catacombs

Developer

Hey! thanks for playing! Im glad you liked the music and art! and i was going to add a map but pretty much decided against it last minute (bring back using notes in video games!). also for the large skull army, its possible to cheese it by luring multiple skulls to the same spot and killing them with the spikes! and yep thats an over sight; i forgot to add a way to restart or exit the game sadly. Im glad you enjoyed it though!

Interesting and unique. Reminds my of my old Speak and Spell

Developer(+1)

Honestly i would be horrified if one of my toys started talking in this voice xd (As mentioned in a previous comment, the voice lines were made using a modern port of an old speech synthesizer called SAM if you were curious about it)

I managed to get the cowardice ending, three times!

Developer

Haha (The good ending is possible if a little difficult!)

So the only thing for me is that I didn't quite figure out how to attack the floating skulls.

But I found the floating skulls delightful, and I was glad that they killed me.

Ending 2: Failure

I truly think this game is something special. From the synthesized vocals to the homemade textures to the lighting effects.

This game is something special.

I assume that the duality is from life/death or the transform mechanic?

But it also has the word "Duality" in the title of the game, so I can confidently state that the duality theme was included.

Developer

Hey! I am glad you enjoyed the game! Regarding the Attacking mechanic, you first need to transform and right click when facing the skull; the attacking mechanic was pretty much added in last minutes so it might be a bit buggy and unresponsive which i do plan on fixing post jam.

And you are right; the theme of duality was in reference to the transformation, it was inspired by the story of jekyll and hyde. I planned to provide a bit more exposition in the opening cutscene however i couldnt due to time constraints! (which again would be fixed post jam.)

PS the vocals were synthesized using SAM (software automatic mouth) which is a fun piece of software to play with in its own right!
