This was a real treat! The premise was excellent in terms of meeting the theme, the story was legitimately emotional, the gameplay was varied and interesting, it truly had everything. The quest log was a great touch, and the mini map was super cool too! Obviously the graphics are on the rough side as I'm sure you know but you fully committed to the style and it honestly kind of works given the absurdity of everything going on in the game. I legitimately have no real criticism, I'm still a little bit in shock haha.

This is probably the nicest feedback I have gotten you’ve made my day lmao thank you!

Great narrative. The opening actually made me chuckle.  You have crafted an entire experience in such a short time!

I only have some small nitpick critiques. None of them really impacted the game.

The Y-sorting of the trees (some trunks were on top of the trees in-front)

If I hit "e" during a conversation, it registers as speaking again. The continue button hitbox was too small

The timer was a little stressful, and I feel like the game would be better without it.

Developer

Thank you! It was my first 2D game so the layering drove me insane I gave up after a while (I was at it for hours). Dialogue bug I’ll fix I made the same mistake last time I made a dialogue system lol, need a Boolean check for if it’s open, forgot that.

Timer I understand but it’s actually really really hard to lose the game I pause it during all dialogues and events, only there to emphasize the incoming doom and give some responsiveness to failing mini games. Good feedback thank you, I’ve added them to my list to sort out.

Can't believe I just cried due to vegetables 🥲 It's a great story and has a great intro. GG

Developer(+1)

Haha thank you

Honestly didn't expect to be invested into the story, the music was really fitting and although not the most polished, the graphics were still beautiful, definitely a contestor for the humor aspect.

I would say that there were a lot of NPCs though, and talking to all of them felt like it took a lot of time for no value, especially with the time limit stress. Nevertheless a great entry!!

Developer

Thanks very much for the feedback! Some of it is very rough on purpose because I want to sell the everything made in MS Paint meme and true there’s a lot of dialogue haha

I’m writing this as I play

first thoughts… wow… nice cutscenes and dialog progression, feels like a polished experience

first nitpickery: would prefer to not have to use the mouse to advance/close dialog

oops:

image.png

paper is clearly overpowered in the rock paper scissors game : P

that’s so much writing (which I understand is a lot more work than people tend to give it credit for)

you managed to give vegetables (ewww) personality with very simple art. and it has QUESTS!

I’m not super sold on your take on the theme though, just the timer?

EDIT: remembered this later… I didn’t pay too much attention to one of the dialogues and then was lost on what to do in the forest for santa, would be nice to have the vegetables repeat the actual thing they want instead of “oh yeah I’ll be thankful” for people that tend to mash without thinking too much like me (I went back and tried again to see the dialog I missed)

EDIT2: keep coming back to the art, each vegetable/worm/jesus is very clear on what it is, not easy with stylized ““simple”” (much better than anything I can do for sure) art like this

will be very honest that it is 100% NOT the type of game I enjoy (too much writing, too little gameplay) but I won’t rate it based on my taste

Thank you for the feedback, agree with the polish stuff and missed that layer bug looks like I forgot to turn a boolean on for dialogue RIP. The minigames completely random lol when I was testing once I did paper 5 times in a row and won lol so it’s by chance.

The theme take is they’re all fruit and vegetables that are expiring (Food Decay) so Cabbages role in the game is to stop that and prevent any more from perishing (Like his family did) and can live forever. So the story is a play on how food decays irl.

I was also going for a meme story game as opposed to a solid gameplay loop so I appreciate the last part haha thank you.
