Thanks for making the browser version!  There is a lot to love about this game. - the pixel art was great, the controls were easy to understand but with plenty of room left for mastery.   The Ghost boss fight was great with progressive difficulty.  Overall, well done!

If you like platformers, you might like to try our game.

Developer

Thank you very much :)

The browser version has some problems, but it's playable. Originally I tried to make a web build, but it had crashes, etc. I fixed some of those with the previous updates, and it seems to be working alright.

I'll try your game when I have some time!

Great game! The level of polish was fantastic and it really made the graphics and sounds shine :-)

The gameplay and shooting felt really nice.

The only part that felt a bit awkward to me was the switch from airborne to walking.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Haha, seems everyone has the same issue. I'll have to tweak that if I continue working on this after the jam ends.

Thank you again for playing :)

Wow, this level of detail and polish in a game jam is amazing! The gameplay is simple to play but hard to master, the art is awesome and the music fits so well. Boss battles don't come easy either, but feels great when succeeded. Glad to see more Godot games in the jam each year! Kudos for a round entry, one of the best if I may say so.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I really enjoyed your entry too!

This games is under rated! Very well polished, loved the two mechanics of being in the air and also on the ground. Boss fights were very well done! Great experience to play it! Fid my video review below:

Thanks! And thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it :)

Are is so nice and characters are super cute, especially the bosses. I like how the ghosts explode in colored blobs on death, super satisfying. Mechanic is fun to use although it takes some getting used to. Difficulty of final boss felt right to me, the spikes in the corners are so evil, but managed to beat hekatok after some tries.

Most polished game I've seen in this jam, great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Balancing difficulty is always hard, so I'm glad it felt right for you and I'm happy you managed to finish it :)

This is the best game I played so far. It's too good to be free. Outstanding work

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! All my games (yet) are free. Try them out if you'd like  :)

This is by far the best game I have ever played in this Jam (and I have played 100+). This game has been so well executed with brilliant graphics, audio, mechanism and control. The rebound combined + dashing navigation is very tricky to master but at the same time extremely fun to use. The boss designs are brilliant, they all fit really well in the stage/map that they fit in. The boss fights are super challenging and their sprites give them so much personality. I could not get through the pumpkin boss (I assume it is the final boss), tried a dozen times. Loved this game. Incredible. Am I witnessing another Celeste born from a Game Jam?

I do hope dashing towards the ground will make me stand still rather than bouncing off ground again. Sometimes I need to get rid of the floating quickly and deal some damage.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your kind words :)

I played some highly polished games during this jam. If you haven't had the chance to try them (though I doubt that you missed them), I recommend Scent of Aurora, MonMon, The Ogi, Skyjunk, A Trip to the Moon and MoonWitches.

The ground-snapping was by far one of the most commented annoyances, so I'll try to address it in the future.

Submitted(+1)

I absolutely love the style and feel of this! It has polish way beyond what I'd expect to see in a jam! The  core concept was very original and I could imagine this being expanded on into a full game.

I did experience the "only shooting to the right" issue others have mentioned - but it DID work with a controller. It must be some mouse detection issue. I'm glad it did work because I had a lot of fun blasting about. :)

Developer

Hm, I think I know what's happening there. Did you already have a controller connected when playing with the mouse and keyboard? Code only accepts one or the other :/

Thanks for playing, I'm happy you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

Yes! That was 100% the problem. I had an extra controller connected that I didn't even know about. thank you. :)

Developer

Thanks for the confirmation! Now that I know, I'll put a little note on the game's page.

The polish and the presentation in this game are top-notched and I'm shocked those screenshots/gifs haven't resulted in more ratings. The opening cutscenes was great. The fact that it's fairly ambitious with save points, branching paths, and boss battles is incredible. Unbelievable amount of work and care went into this in such a short time.

My only criticism is I found the lack of gravity more frustrating than fun. I found myself avoiding the launch if I could, which is unfortunate because the levels/bosses encourage it. I think it can be fixed with a few tweaks, like perhaps less floating after launch or a quicker return to the ground. For example, I would often wait to hit the ground before I shot so I didn't go flying, but it took too long to start walking again so I found myself shooting myself backwards. I think just a LITTLE more tightness and control would go a long way.

Overall, incredible. You'll be getting some of my highest marks. Amazing job.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing and for your nice comments!

I encourage playing airborne more than on the ground. The original idea didn't even have walking in it. If I were to keep the ground movement I should find ways to ease in the dashing & shooting mechanics as means of traversal, I think. Glad you liked it anyways!

Edit: Using the F key for braking is a must if you want to have more control. I think I have a low number of ratings cause I don't have a web build. It had several bugs, so I decided not to upload it to itch :(

Another sweet and very innovative game.  I didn't try it on a gamepad yet, but I can tell that would rock with this mechanic.  I just looked at the readme file and it took me a little fiddling to figure out that the reason I can't jump is because I could dash in any direction, but then I was like "OH NICE"

The shooting only to the right drove me nuts, but in a good way, it gave some challenge while still letting you zoom around the screen.  Several times I was like "Oh you little, I need to get over there!"

One of the most fun to play for me so far.

Developer

"Shooting only to the right" wasn't intended :(

You should be able to shoot in any direction pointing with the mouse. There should be some kind of tutorial ingame, but I didn't find the time to add it. Glad you enjoyed it nonetheless and thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

This was incredibly good. Everything about the presentation, mechanics, art, and boss fights was so good. I loved the story (WitchTok, lol), and how quickly it set up and jumped into the action. Controlling the thrusting was difficult, but that was part of the fun. The only thing I wished was different would be if there was a way to stop floating or snap to the ground faster. I also appreciate you adding gamepad support. Definitely one of my favorite games I've played during this jam.

Developer

Gamepad support was an afterthought and not tested! I hope it worked well!
I'm aware of the ground snapping speed being too slow and if I do work on this after the jam, I'll try to fix it.
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it! :)

Submitted(+1)

I really loved the core gameplay mechanic! It felt so good blasting and zooming myself around. I think you did a great job on the boss design as well. I only had one problem. Radu Spade would jump up and out of the camera view, and they would never come back until I tabbed out of the game and back into it. I also think it would be nice if the cursor was locked to inside the screen. Had I never clicked out of the screen though, I never would've been able to make Radu Spade come back though, so it worked out in the end. Also, your pixel art is absolutely stunning! And I absolutely loved the color splashing! Overall, a great experience.

Developer

Thanks!

That's a strange bug, but I can see how it could happen. I'll check it out and see if I can fix it.
Regarding the cursor, I always tested the game on fullscreen, which means I wasn't aware of that problem. I won't change it now, cause it's not a game breaking bug, but will keep it in mind for after the voting period ends.

I like hearing praise about the pixel art, since I'm not an artist and I think I'm improving my art little by little, so thanks :)

Submitted(+1)

So good! Easily my favorite that I've played so far this jam! The core mechanic is very fun, zooming about and stopping on a dime is very satisfying, and I was happy that it worked with a controller. The boss fights are so sick, with multiple attacks and increasing difficulty as you damaged them.

Amazing work on the art and sound. There's so much polish in musical variations and sound effects. The pixel art (and some of the design) reminds me of Rouge Legacy, perfect for this type of game.

If I had to mention the smallest of nitpicks, one would be the health on the bosses feels a bit high. Maybe that's needed in order for you to fully experience their later phases with more dangerous attacks. But it might be more interesting if the boss battles were lengthened by invulnerable phases where you really focus on dodging, rather than being bullet-spongey. Just something to consider for an expanded version. Another thing is the recoil on the gun felt a bit high, making the stopping mechanic less useful that it could have been. But perhaps lowering it would have made the game too easy.

The intro made me laugh out loud. Overall it's just incredible how polished this game is! I'd definitely like to play an expanded version with more abilities and more metroidvania and/or procedural rogue-like elements.

Developer (1 edit)

Oh! Did it really work with a controller? I added controller support along the way, but couldn't really try it, cause I don't have good ones right now (just generic gamepads). I'm glad it worked! And I'm happy you liked it. Maybe bosses should be more Nintendo-like, that's true. That's something to try if I ever continue working on this. And you're right that the recoil is a bit high, but that's because I wanted it to double as a means of traversal. Again, thanks for playing!

Edit: Misunderstood what you meant with the bosses. Yeah, that's also a good idea!

Submitted(+1)

Awesome work! My favorite game up to now. Core gameplay mechanic is really fun to play with.

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Thank you! You may notice that there's a weapon icon to the upper left, a lot of coins and a specific room with only a monolith and nothing else. That was supposed to be a room with a weapons merchant. So the idea was there, I just didn't have the time to implement it.

This game is great! I really really enjoyed it! Gave 5 stars!

The gameplay is fun and addicting. It just "feels" right. Easy to learn and hard to master. Hard but fair. Also a concept like this is completely new to me, I never played anything like this before. Also every enemy felt different and like something new. I really enjoyed exploring that place.

The pixel art is gorgeous, the opening is nice, the soundtrack is great.

Overall really good!

Developer

Thank you VERY much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I tried really hard to get the movement right and even had to completely rework it a couple of times, so I'm glad the work paid off. It's still rough around the edges and I would've liked to add a lot more content, but I'm satisfied with the final product. Thanks for playing!

I have a question, is the game supposed to close after dying?

Developer (2 edits)

No, that's definitely a bug. After dying, it loads the latest save if it exists and starts the game anew if it doesn't. Read/write permissions could be the problem. What OS?

Edit: yup, it's the release build. Segfault, so something memory related. Will check it out and fix it if possible.
Edit2: Found the bug. Will upload it in a little while.

Developer

This should hopefully fix it! Sorry I took so long!

Submitted(+1)

Long? It was like instant haha

Good job and do not worry, bugs like that happen easily, especially if there is not enough time for testing. My game had a really serious bug in this competition. You still deserve 5 stars!

Developer

Thanks! I didn't find any game breaking bugs during my playthrough of your game. There was a one where you could still use your moon powers after dying and you'd end up respawning with an empty meter, but it wasn't anything as dramatic as a crash.

Submitted(+1)

Thats great. The bug I talked about did only appear on Intel GPU's so far. Like half of the textures did not load for some reason.

Submitted(+1)

I loved it, the mechanic is so cool. Can be frustrating a times, like, the fact she stumbling for so long on the ground. I understand why, because you want to prevent the player from using the "platformer" skillset, but since we cant jump.

Otherwise, you really nailed it, it has potential for sure, maybe, if you would continue working on the game, I would try to work on matching the two universe together, because right it feels the character is an asset from another game :)

Developer

Thanks for playing and the feedback. It's true that I should adjust things for the character to be able to stand on the ground faster, though as you said, it's kinda like that to force you to dash around.
Can you clarify what you mean with "an asset from another game"?

(+1)

pixel art was awesome, and zipping around the map is super fun. Bosses were a nice way to break up the levels.

Developer

Thanks for playing :)

Was planning to add more variety to the levels (different tiles for each zone, more enemies and longer levels) but thought that it was more that I could chew for this jam.

Here are some enemies that didn't make it to the game:

Submitted(+2)

The pixel art it's just superb. The particles, the little details and the sounds are great! I beat the boss after dying hundreds of times and it was the hardest thing I ever done.
Why did you leave spikes in the corners?! WHY?! T-T That's just evil

Developer

Hey, first of all, thanks for playing, and thank you very much for all the praise.

A friend of mine playtested the game before I submitted it and told me the bosses were too easy. "You know what you should do?", he said, "You should add spikes on the corners."

I had your same reaction "that's just evil", but I think it makes the fight a bit more interesting and personal.

Submitted(+1)

Super cute and vibrant!! I found the controls to be a little tricky, but it got better after I discovered the brake key. The final boss is pretty tricky though, and I didn't manage to beat it in a few tries. I hope there wasn't a cute ending cutscene that I missed out on as well!

Developer

Thanks! The ending is just a static image, but yeah, you could consider it cute. Thanks for playing and the feedback.
