Cool concept, I like that the money is actually also your bullets, feels like you need to evaluate your options and the risk you're willing to take a little more.

It felt like my bullets were going through the enemies when I shot from too close, so my only strategy was always to just run away, when I actually wanted to get close, especially cause you implemented knock back. Feels like a miss when you can't use a nice mechanic like that.

Adding a dodge of some sort would be nice, feels like sometime an enemy would just spawn next to me and I couldn't avoid it cause it was just there you know. Having the ability to dodge it would make it so the player is rewarded by being skillful and understanding the mechanics.

Also, the music in fight felt a little repetitive, might want to replace to something a little less intense :P

But overall, I liked the aesthetic and the sprites, and the shooting and movement of the character felt good. Good job!

well done with the game - feels good to play! I feel like the movement could be a bit more dialed in, but it might just be a matter of getting used to it!

Addictive, fun game! Visual, audio and gameplay well integrated, just need to get those shots to hit the enemies when they don't! (don't mind the enemies that stop they help)

Nice, straightforward game loop. Like the impact effects when shooting the enemies! Fun game!

Really fun! Gameplay is simple but it's really challenge. I also love music and sfx in this game it's make more exciting.

Was really fun running through these levels trying to stay alive and upgrade.  I found some instances where the enemy wouldn't take damage upon shooting.  But fun game overall! great work

Nice fun little game, cute walking animation loop and the concept of bullets being your money is cool. I think your shot spawner is a little in front of your player making to if an enemy is within 1-2 enemy lengths of you, you can't shoot them.  Overall a fun, addicting little game. The sound is nice and poppy too. Also awesome cover art/title screen.

Nice, fighting a swarm of sphere-shaped robots huh? I think our games share a little DNA.

This was fun and quite polished and it reminded me of Enter the Gungeon. Like some of the others mentioned, I unfortunately died when I got backed into a corner and couldn't shoot the orb-bots up close. Solid entry, nice work!

It's crazy how in every game jam I've participated in, there always seems to be a few games eerily similar to what I've done. Or maybe great minds think alike? haha

I'm glad you enjoyed our game :) I definitely did use Enter the Gungeon as a reference for some of the mechanics, it is the gold standard for top-down 2d shooters out of everything I've played. I hadn't realised how big of an issue the bullets not colliding when too close was until after I had made our final submission. But I have fixed it now (it's so nice that bug fix updates are allowed for the game jam), so it's good that everyone pointed out how much of an impact it was having. Thanks for playing and giving us some feedback :)

Fun and polished game, only issue is you can't sometimes shoot enemies point-blank.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Working on improving the game feel and general polishing are my favourite parts of game development, I'm always super happy to hear that players appreciate all the little things I've sprinkled in to make it feel good to play.

It has an addictive game loop. Some enemies stop chasing me in the second game play though.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing our game and giving us some nice feedback. I'm glad you also find it pretty addictive (I probably spent more time playing it than making it haha). It is a shame we weren't able to completely fix the bugs caused from restarting the game after you die, although we did manage to fix it enough to where it was still playable. Thanks again :)

Makes a lot of fun!

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you found it fun :)

very challenging but fun game.

Developer

I was worried that I might have balanced it to be too difficult, but I'm glad you still found it fun. Thanks for playing! :)

Definitely one of the most polished entries I've played yet. I can tell you put a lot of effort into the game feel, and it paid off.

Developer

I definitely have a love for polishing and game feel, although I do tend to forget to work on the main parts of the game because of it (I only implemented player death on the last day for example haha). Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you've notice and appreciate the work we put into making it feel good to play :)

Fun! To second what others have said when the orbs get too close I wasn’t able to hit them.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm happy to hear that you still found it fun despite the issue with bullet collisions. It's definitely an issue I noticed a lot while playtesting it. Although it's not as bad as what it once was now, I should have spent more time to fix it properly. Thanks again for playing and giving us some good feedback :)

The gameplay is solid, the graphics and audio fits well. However, it lack gameplay innovation and a strong connection with the theme.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing our game :) After seeing all the feedback people have generously given us, I regret not focusing more on gameplay applications of the scale theme. When we planning what we want to make for the game jam, I wanted to make a game that has as many simultaneous interpretations of the scale theme as possible. For this game, that would be:

  • guns and bullets that can be physically scaled up or down
  • difficulty scaling & power scaling
  • economy scaling (Cookie Clicker with shooting instead of clicking)
  • level scaling (procedural level generation so that the level can grow indefinitely)
  • and thematic scaling (Although not stated in game directly, the currency in game is known as 'nanoscales'; self-assembling nanobots that can configure themselves to become anything such as evil robot balls, size changing weapons, or even ammunition to fire with those weapons)

I am super happy with how the game turned out, and I personally think it the best game overall I have made so far. But I do agree with you that it's not very innovative, top-down 2D shooters as a genre has already been well explored and we used a lot of mechanics from other games in the genre as inspiration. Thanks again for playing and giving us some good feedback :)

super fun. relatively straightforward concept but very solid, polished, and well designed.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I'm starting to regret not going more wacky with the game design and focusing on the scale theme more. But I'm still super happy with how the game turned out regardless. Thanks for giving us your feedback

Very cool I like how good and crunchy it feels when you shoot the gun. A problem I noticed was that when the orbs got too close to me I couldn't shoot them, so i would get trapped in a corner and die : (, really nice game though, absolutely loved it!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you like how the gun feels to shoot, I spent a lot of time (many many hours) tweaking and adjusting it until it felt just right. The problem you've encountered is something that keeps coming up. It is much better than it used to be, but after seeing how much feedback I'm getting for it I'm regretting not spending the time to fix it completely. Thanks again for giving us some good feedback, I'm happy to hear you liked it :)

Fun to play! Although the sound is quite loud for me it was a great game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Although I did have the backend setup for changing music or sound effects volume, we ran out of time to make the UI for it. I'm glad you still liked it despite how loud it was :)

Hi Imrealnow, We have been following this game from the beginning and we are happy that it was published!

The idea is very good, even if it is not clear from the beginning which is the connection with the theme of the Jam

The movement of the player is great and also the shooting is works well with the 2 different types of weapons.

The only downside is that sometimes the projectiles pass through the enemies (unfortunately is not a little defect for this type of game)

In the complex the gameplay is great and super addictive! Well done mate

I liked the art style and the general aesthetic of the game. The little area of light around the player and the dimming of the rooms lights when a round starts were nice touches. SFX and music were appropriate and added to the feel of the game.

Difficulty felt spot on, and the simple procedural generation an appreciated feature. The shooting/guns generally felt satisfying. However, the hitboxes on enemies felt very janky. Bullets seemed to move "under" enemies when they should in fact register as a hit.

I felt that more could be done to fit the game to the Game Jam Theme. Having Weapons and Difficulty that scales up as you progress is quite generic. Adding something as simple as saying you are scaling up the Spaceships floors, or bigger rooms as you progress would have been good.

I did not find any bugs throughout my playthrough.

Overall, good submission. Well done!
