From what starts out thinking this is a simple little game, develops into something more compelling and complex.
Great work on the gameplay element. Working out different features and ways to change things up and add extra spice to the game. And a fun tutorial as well to bring it along.
Great job! Well done :).
This really worked for me. Probably one of my favorite of the jam so far. I appreciate that most of the game says it's a tutorial, but really it's a slowly unfolding puzzley game. I had a few navigational problems at first - I couldn't move to the top of the screen because I couldn't click past the bar at the top. And level two only required 5 deaths instead of 10 which the popup stated. But once I figured out I could zoom out, the game played a lot better. I'd almost start the game zoomed out.
Bonus points for the turtle. Overall, super well done! Good job!
I really like the music and sound effects! The gameplay is a bit hard to understand, I think it could use a bit of clean up. There are a lot of munchie types to keep track of and the gameplay seems like its meant to be fast-paced.

yes that's true - my goal after this jam is to make these first 8 levels really, really clear for player. Add more visual feedbacks, maybe some direct tutorial messages (now I put a lot of info into "flavor texts" and I think people are sometimes ignoring them). And when I will be sure that current mechanics are understandable and people are able to use them strategically, then I will start to add new levels and features.
thanks for comment!
My daughter came in and asked if we could play Munchies again today. Definitely gets our seal of approval!
I think I got brain damage now by listening to the munchies a bit too much XD
I had some fun. But I had a very big problem:
I'm from Spain and I had to search on internet what is a munchie, cause I didn't get it XD
Fun little game. Lots of potential. Graphics are simple and have room to grow. My only real criticism is that I never got the difference between the four kinds of munchies. Also, maybe some indicator of what is good and bad? The challenge then is that as your herd gets larger it is harder and harder to avoid potentially bad blobs.
Over all nice effort! Keep it up!
I was a little bit afraid that my aproach to the theme won't be so visible. General idea was like that:
1. pickups (Blobs) has random colors so you never know what you take
2. Bad pickups (Blobs that kills your Munchies) are from one hand bad, but from other good because they give you experience points (good Blobs doesn't) and make your Munchies stronger (you get health points for each level of a Munchie)
But because I needed to introduce mechanics one by one, the whole concept is visible only in last level, so it's not so clear from the beginning.
Thanks for comment :)
Please put eyes on those capsules! Loved it, especially the sounds.
You should improve the graphics and release on mobile!
This was fun! And the world is on a tortoise! Love it
I'm getting pikmin vibes from this game. I would have liked the orbs to be more visually indicative of their function.
Yes, definitely I need to work on visual feedback, because then as a player you can start to plan some strategies. Now you don't know f.e. what exp. points really gave you - in tutorial it's said that health, but how much? And how it's compared to the damage dealt by Blobs etc. Or how much Incubation Points you gather for each Blob. So in this field there is plenty work to do :)
Thanks for feedback!
PS: I heard about Pikmin, but I've never played :)
Thanks! I put a lot of focus on progression, because in one moment I realized that I put so many different elements that it's just too overwhelming for the first level. So I ask myself, how can I take a player for a journey and slowly show him all the mechanics etc. There is still a lot to improve (I would like that player knows exactly what Blobs do what, and the same with Smunchies) and in full game it will be much more separated. Look for a great wideo from GMTK about tutorials - GMTK - Can We Make Better Tutorials for Complex Games?
This was great! I really like the concept and was really bummed out when I reached the "last level". I was hoping for more. Great job on the game.
Yes, it's just a demo/proof of concept. In future I would like to give more challenges also connected with space (go to "x" place and of course you will have obstacles on your way etc.). I had even ideas for bosses! :D That firstly you need to grow your herd and then if you have enough Munchies you can beat some big guy at the end.
