Impressive camera work! Classic arcade game, great feel and smooth controls. I'd say it's a release-ready game!
amazing! even with voice audio! really fun!
I'll tell Vee you liked it. She had a lot of fun recording it.
haha! yeah please do that! My wife in an earlier TriJam had lots of fun with voice recording too :) She was just not so happy, that she got the role of “scream like a dying vampire!” ^^
Haha, if you ever play a game series called 8 Bit Armies, the death screams are me. The sound guy was laughing so hard while recording that.
For those who are interested I've posted the soundtrack on You-Tube. Props to my buddy for making a really great collection of music for the game! Tropical Rush Original Soundtrack - YouTube
Yoooooooooo this is sick! What a great retro-modern take on integrating some out-of-the-box kits & unity assets, mixing it with some pixel art & ai art assets, and an awesome soundtrack. All while still capturing a game jam feel capturing the theme with the 2.5d aesthetic. This is like a model example of how quickly games can get made in 2023! Props!
Thanks. For those interested I used two off the shelf assets for this. I used the car system from the Game Jam Starter Kit and the Waypoint Circuit system from the Unity standard assets with A LOT of modifications. All the rest of the coding is original. The buggy was a free asset from Thingiverse that I made a capture script that rendered the buggy from all the appropriate angles. The camara work was done through Cimiemachine. It's totally worth learning to use if you haven't yet.
Loooove the aesthetics of this game! You really found a way to capture that arcade racer nostalgia. I'm incredibly impressed with this entry, especially because you managed to fit so many courses in!
Great game! Feeling nostalgic. Love the camera work.
Superb sound and visuals. Very disorientating though. Good job you two!
The retro aesthetic adds a touch of nostalgia that instantly captured my attention. It's evident that you have put a lot of effort into creating a visually appealing and polished experience. The seamless integration of both 2D and 3D aspects is a commendable choice, and it demonstrates the professionalism with which the game has been crafted.
The theme of "life in 2 dimensions" is certainly present, and while it's a logical approach, I couldn't help but wonder if there could be even more elements that showcase this concept throughout the game. Perhaps incorporating additional mechanics or visuals that emphasize the duality of living in two dimensions could further enhance the overall experience.
Nonetheless, I appreciate the way it combines nostalgia with modern design elements, creating an engaging and enjoyable gameplay experience!!
Everything is perfect, the music, the sounds, the graphic... Nice Game!
Really awesome mix of 2D and 3D and amazing asset design, seriously great job! Audio's awesome but camera gives me bad motion sickness (i can play 30hz vr, this is new to me), just a little fix to that and you've got an amazing web game or even mobile game.
Really really great game! Kinda sad that the awesome camera work makes me dizzy but that's just a me thing and not the game's fault. Great job!
Impressive!
Lovely game with some serious 80s arcade vibes. I had some trouble adjusting to the controls together with the camera but you get used to it after a while. Having to start from scratch after one failed race is a bit rough, I would have liked a retry mechanism there so I could continue on the 3rd map. But overall the game flows smoothly from one race to the next without any menu interactions, which I love.
Congrats on submitting to the jam!
PS: The game works well in full screen, but the map with the races on it does not scale to fullscreen unfortunately :)
Cool game! Simple but fun. The old arcade game easthetics work very well :)
Great Game! Did you do the pixel art?
It's nearly all MidJourney AI. I made the roads and buggies are rendering of a free 3d print model got off Thingiverse. I spent the last few months mining Midjourney for images for my job so I got pretty good at it. Just use the propt, "Pixel Art, (subject) sprites, White Background" subject is obviously what you're looking to make.
Ditto - great feel. I'm really wondering how you made the reiterating 2D textures. It looks great! Did I see Abobo in the crowd?
this sent me way back. i loved everything, from aesthetics, sound, gameplay. only thing is i'm easily motion sick, so that camera tilting was a bit much for me after 2 races. but i loved every second of it. really nice job
Nice visuals, it surely brings back our old memories
Great job, Very retro. The vehicles looked good, but I really liked all the extras on the course like the spectators.
Great game and brings back alot of memories. The voice overs were really on point. At first i didnt love the camera tilt when turning but i started to warm up to it and in the end im thinking it mightve been a good thing.
