This is a cool blend of action and farming sim! I can see cool mechanics for it involving the crops you grow and their hp or effects they could have on you or the enemies! The only bits of criticism I can give are polishing details - it is a little confusing how to select a seed to plant since there's no hover shading on the buttons, and the attack animation windup ended up getting me hit a few times, and then getting hit seems really scary every time like you're about to die - you could maybe lerp the visibility of the screen effect with the % of the players current HP maybe?
all in all though very fun and I liked it!
That's not a bad idea actually, I'll note it for future reference. Thanks for playing!
Freakin knew the chiken were up to something!
Okay this was a fun one, just the humor and hidden details makes it apparent someone put a lot of passion in here. The idea is very creative, the two phases being codependent for the farmers survival. Some controls could have been more obvious (eg. right clicking with shovel gives you the shovel action menu) and it feels kinda clumsy switching from all the stuff (especially enemy drops), maybe enemy loot should have been just a value to see how much you can feed your plants, it's not exactly easy to feed the plants while being both attacked and having the timer tick down. Also I'm not entirely sure what feeding my plants to the max does? Extra drops? Should have been more obvious.
But don't think I'm complaining, the sheer amount of different mechanics implemented in this project is great, and again, the details, I love the details. I also love how the plants have carnivorous nightmare versions in the nightmare lmao
Dat cow got some moves tho
I think you noticed the most out of anybody and everybody who's actually played this... Thank you!
I really enjoyed this. I like the jumping back and forth between the peaceful planting and the defending of the crops. I wish there were a little bit better hit registration so I could know when I actually hit the enemies, but the weapon animations look wonderful.
The only weird thing that I don't see mentioned below is I had trouble with the walking with WASD. For some reason, when I would try to walk a direction, he would only take a single step, so I had to use my controller for movement while using the keyboard for everything else. It appears to be a "me" issue, but it was a strange bug. I was able to enjoy the game even with that and think you did a wonderful job!
That is a bizarre issue! You're the first to have encountered it... I wonder what triggered it 🤔 Well anyway thank you so much for playing!
nice game! it plays so smooth. sometimes i find myself lost in how to make some stuff, maybe a better tutorial could make it :D
Game plays pretty well. I didn't realize that spiders were attacking the first night, so I lost quite a few crops. I killed the spiders, but I couldn't figure out what to do with the drops. I tried planting/clicking. I even tried just holding them in my hand for when I was about to wake up, but nothing. I also tried with the item the tentacles drop, but again, I couldn't figure out what to do with it. I did manage to make a burger and eat it to regain health, but it wasn't enough to survive too many more nights, especially while trying to drop my weapon and figure out what to do with the loots. Overall, pretty fun.
Yeah unfortunately we just failed to explain what the enemy drops do to the player, they were meant to increase your crops yield the next day if you fed them during the night but alas, even with your starting seeds you could straight away make a burger which kind of defeated the point so, a lot to be learned from this on our end!
I really enjoyed the game. One of my favorite games on jam :D.
Interesting game. It took a while to work out how to plant crops but other than that the controls on the right of the screen made everything clear enough. Quite a fun game, Nice job!
That was a superb game! Very impressed by everything (graphics, gameplay, fit the theme)
In ten days, it has already reached some integrity, great job, hope you can keep building this game
Oh, I see. Man, it took me a minute to understand that I had to mouseover something and then press E to pick it up, rather than just one or the other.
Best boy right here. Also like the carrot mouse, cute touch.
Man, I thought snails in my garden were bad! Now eldritch horrors jeeez. This feels like it could be a fresh take on Plants Vs. Zombies, with the farmer in on the brawl. I wonder where you could take it with more time. Thanks for the game!
Thanks so much for playing! Given more time we were thinking of adding sort of tower defence elements with plants that did different things but alas there simply was no time for that!
You really outdone yourself here, though the overall game is completely unique, I can see this on STEAM 🫡, keep up the awesome work
Wow high praise! Thank you for playing!
Great game you've got here! Great visuals, and awesome music. Figuring out how to farm was a little difficult at first, I wish there was some type of tutorial at the start. Tower defense elements would've been so cool but I know they're not easy and time was limited. Again great entry, I'd love to see where it goes after the jam.
Great Idea and theme, the concept of having farming as well as clearing hordes of enemies in the same game is pretty unique and exciting. Not much of a farming game guy myself but using the crops as a type of life system is imaginative. Keep up the good work :)
Love how the game looks and sound. I had to spam left mouse and right mouse to select a shovel action. The farming part is okay otherwise. The nightmare part is quite good. The control is nice. Overall, good game.
I don't know how to feel about the cow dancing happily in my nightmare though, quite ominous.
You are either Team Cow... Or Team Meat. Choose wisely
Thanks, the Polish cow song is stuck in my head now. Interesting concept, I guess with the huge field you could add some tower defense elements to it.
Thanks for playing !I wanted to add plants that turned into towers and scarecrows that drew enemies in but alas time wasn't on our side
Alright, I feel silly because I could not figure how to actually plant anything. I used the hoe to til the earth, picked up the pouch, grabbed the shove and used right click which showed me the three different types of crops but couldn't figure out how to select which type of crop.
Aside from my farming failures, I love the graphics (and dancing cow). The concept is great and I can see the potential for a calm farming game here.
Hey that's weird? It wasn't letting you select which crop to plant? :( A bug I never found apparently
To be honest, I'm not familiar with the controls. I used to play the Harvest Moon series on an emulator, and I now fully play it with a keyboard. When the player is close enough to the object, I just press a key, and something happens. But, on yours, I was confused when I was close enough to a shovel or hoe and I couldn't pick it up. As it turns out, I should hover over it.
I was thinking it was a horror game due to its name, but it's not. I misinterpreted it.
The camera follows the player a little bit slowly. When the player runs, he can be out of sight.
You should add an objective, or at least include it on your game page. like, "First, take your hoe," and so on. It's also hard to recognize whether my attack is a success or a miss.
Overall, you guys made it within 10 days! Amazing!
Thank you very much for the feedback provided! We got a lot done but we also missed key components to the player experience. Controls seemed to be a hit or miss for a lot of people, some loved it and some hated it. In regards to direction and objective that definitely was not made clear and we could have done a much better job at directing the player! Thanks for playing!
Your game looks very pretty. Nice job!
Very slick. Very nice look. I didn't like the movement system, WASD is only setting the forward direction, which is not common, but you want movement on a grid to coordinate the planting action I guess. It has a unified 'look' which is what I struggle with. The perspective is just right, it's like a 2D game in a 3D world, which I tried to go for. I will learn from this.
Thank you for checking it out! What do you mean by moving on a grid? I'm curious by how you would apply what you liked into something different
I was not clear. It is like moving on a grid in 2D because there is no diagonal control. Often mouse position sets the forward direction and WASD respond to that, which gives you reverse and side-ways movement. I just wasn't expecting this control setup, so that was my initial reaction. It was my failure to adapt to the playing environment.
Hey it's never the player's failure, if there was something we could do to make the controls more clear and adaptable then that's somethiNg we've gotta learn! Maybe because I played it so often it just came so naturally to me, given more time I think we would have play tested much more and gotten more feedback, but thank you nonetheless!
They are fine. Dealing with Users can be frustrating. ;)
I'm such a dummy. For a little bit I didn't realize I had missed the shovel and that I needed it for gardening, However I quickly turned that around and used my dancing cow to help make some burgs.
The farming part had such a chill feel to it, especially with the music. The combat on the other side was nice, though I wish there was a little more of an effect when you connect a hit, just to make it that little bit more satisfying.
Great idea and well done.
