MAXIMUM aesthetic!
This was great fun. I really love the arcade style to it. All the way from the gameplay to its presentation.
and here I thought my game would mess with people's depth perception.
I was a fool!
and your camera man is a mad man.
and your DJ is a genius.
and I am too bad a driver to make it past level 2 ;-(
Thanks for reminding me how garbage I am racing game lol.
Very impressive how it looks like an old racing game, seems right out of an arcade, well done !
Cool game. Its funny how all the other cars stick together like a mob.
Very cool game that reminds of retro games. But one thing that could be improved is theme and story, because I don't really get how this related to the theme other than being 2D. Story is something that isn't really needed for a game but it is a category for this game jam. But gameplay was really fun, and I would love to see this worked on more. One thing in the gameplay that could be better is drifting because whenever I drift I often hit something and feel out of control.
Wow that was really impressive. I mean you had the insert coin just like an arcade. The way the area and race was set up made it feel like one of those classic arcade machines. Awesome job with the art and the background. Very impressive. Just one thing I have to ask and i'm just a bit confuse, how does this go with the theme Life in 2 dimension. Was it because you drive around in 2d. Not trying to be rude, I'm just wondering where the theme for this comes in that all.
I idea was that I wanted to make a 3d game with nothing but 2d art. I have no experience making 2d games and I just said screw it, I'm going to make a dream project of mine. I'm considering building an arcade cabinet for this.
Ok np. Just a simple question. You did an amazing job with this.
Very atmospheric racing in the old school style. Incredibly cool to play. Congratulations!
Wow man, you guys nailed it. I really loved all of the details that made this feel like an HD version of all those old school arcade racing games. Amazing job!
Excellent look and feel, reminds me of the days of old playing with a SEGA Genesis.
This looks and feels and plays like a finished game, not something put together in a ten day jam period!
Sadly for me, I'm really only alright at racing games where you never have to break or intentionally slow down, the corners are too tough for me. It took two tries to get to the second track and then another try after that to get to the third. Getting bumped back down to the first track on every loss is a bit too brutal for me or I might have kept going to see the full content of the game.
The other thing I'd like to note is that all the AI cars are basically driving identically to each other, they're always in a pack so that you'll either be coming in first or fifth for every race. It might have been more than could be done in ten days, but giving every AI car a varied (maybe randomized) speed or cornering ability would help to give the player some sense of accomplishment when catching up to and passing an individual racer rather than the entire pack at once.
Awesome. I could imagine actually playing this back then. My only two issues are I couldn't find the slot to insert a coin and also I came last because I kept trying to see if I could take a shortcut in case you missed any :)
Wow, this game took me back to the 80's!
This is an awesome experience. Took me right back to my 1980's childhood when my aunt took me, may brother and cousin to Chucky Cheese and we played all the arcade racing games. Great Job! This was like I was standing in front of those machines. Blast from the past. Right down to the announcements and the music. You aced the fun-o-meter. Loved the voice acting.
Great throwback to the retro arcade racing games! Really nice visuals, audios, handling feels good. Solid retro racing game I can see myself coming back to!
Biggest problem is anytime I'd go offroad the road got really distorted and disconnected/floaty looking and started almost making me motion sick as a result. Might also just be from running it in browser though.
The distortion on the side of the road is just a result of the 2d technique. I have an idea of how to fix it, I just ran out of time.
Sorry, I forgot to comment on this... Great use of sprites and recreation of a "game feel." Extremely pretty game.
The optics are like SNES and the music like N64 I love it!
the Driving controlls got weird if you were to close to AI but once you are alone infront it worked quiet well.
You did a fantastic job capturing early 90s arcade racing machines; the music is great too! I'm curious how did you handle the driver AI? Amazing entry!
It was actually really easy. There is an older Unity Standard asset set that came with a waypoint circuit system. It had a waypoint tracking script that made it easy to make a vehicle chase along the waypoint circuit spline. Basically, the cars are really dumb, it's like they're chasing a rabbit that running on a track in front of them. I should make a You-Tube vid on it, It's a pretty useful set of scripts.
This made me feel like I was a little kid sitting in front of the game machines at a bar that smelled like way too much cigarette smoke while we waited for our food and my mom/dad had to peel me away from the car game. You nailed the look, feel, sound, music of that. Excellent atmosphere and a great trip down memory lane. : )
The only complaint was on the first playthrough, the drifting felt a little odd, but I had already figured it out by the time I raced again. Well done!
i think i heard daytona sounds in my mind while playing this game!. so cool, driving controls sometimes got wierd, love it
