Anyone else planning on going through games in need of ratings?

I've not had much time to go through any other submissions, but I plan to go through some.

I want to give back to the community and go through games without ratings.

This has been a positive experience for my first jam and a real confidence boost. I want to support others that may be in a similar position.

[Edit] Submission Link

https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2746560

[update 5/6/24] - There's about 40 games left without ratings, and half of those don't seem to have uploaded all their files, or the games have been quarantined by itch.io.

It looks like nearly everyone has some feedback.  It's been fun going through all these games, lots of nice styles and ideas.  I guess I'll have to start going through games normally now.

check out mine

Also share your game link so I can check it out as well

Submitted

Yours is a nice little game.  Smooth gameplay and I like the implementation of the power ups.

Submitted

checking out yours now, will leave a comment ;)

Submitted

That's my plan!

I've made roguelike about a mage protecting his kingdom. I hope you like it musician cooked on this one

I'll try yours when I'm off work

Submitted

Looks like fun.  The shooting and pick up mechanics are smooth and the audio was pretty nice as well.

I wasn't able to play it for long before my Antivirus killed it, this seems to be a Godot problem, I had the same problem.  I posted a comment on your ratings page with more detail, have a look if it will help.

Submitted

I hope you'll like it! I'll be sure to check it out later, I'm almost certain it's because the game saves the amount of exp collected to your pc

Submitted

Just been checking a few other submissions, there seems to be quite a variety and some that look like really good starts for bigger projects.  This is fun.

Submitted

Going through the other games is often just as fun as making your own! It's really cool seeing everybody's different take on the same idea.
Sorting the submission list by least rated is also a great way to help make sure everybody's game gets looked at!

If you'd like to check out mine, you can here: https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2745633

Now I gotta check out all the ones in this post!

Submitted

Just had a look at yours.  Nice clean 3D graphics, good music and a fun idea, definitely one that could become addictive.

Submitted (1 edit)

Thanks for playing it! I definitely had to tell myself to stop playing and actually work on it a few times lol! The "Just one more round" is an easy trap to fall into.

Submitted

I've been going through them since i woke up, here's my solo entry if you'd like to give it a go

https://zkyle.itch.io/necrofear-apocalypse

Submitted

Just had a look at your game as well, I liked how the enemies reacted, the pick up's and the custom menu system.  I think there needs to be a noise or some other bit of feedback when you strike an enemy though.  When I was attacking them, I couldn't tell if I was doing damage to them or missing.

Submitted

Thanks for the feedback! I did plan on adding staggers to enemies with a souls-inspired poise system, but couldn't quite add it in time with the time constraints, had it all in but the code, would definitely be something I'd be focused on in future jams as that's been the core area of feedback so far

Submitted

I'm planning to go random, as far as I am concerned.
I know that I won't be able to see them all, so I let fate decide lol!
Here is my link, if you want to check it out and rate, I'll appreciate:

I've just had a look, I liked the story and the gameplay.  I didn't survive for long though ...

Submitted

I'm planning on playing and rating as many games as I can today. I won't get through them all which is a shame, everyone's work deserves some attention!

Let me know what you think of mine: https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2750285

Submitted

Just played your game.

Liked the idea, as some people have said, it could do with some balancing.  It wasn't clear to me that spawning NPC's reduced your population, or the cost of a particular unit, but a fun game for a phone.

Submitted

Nice, I plan on porting it to mobile over the next month too :D

Hmm, that's fair feedback. Could do with putting numbers on the unit buttons to make that a little more obvious, I'll make a note of that, thank you.

Submitted

When I played, I didn't notice the population until near the end of my play, are you planning on adding in instructions on a main menu? A how to play might help as I found myself so focussed on the enemies coming in that I wasn't looking at the bottom of the screen.  Could just be me though, been a long day.

Submitted

I think in a more complete version I'd try to have a better (less rushed) tutorial. Putting a how to play button might be an easy way to cover it too. Could then include details about each unit, costs, strengths and weaknesses etc. That's a nice idea...

Submitted

For me it's part of the fun of game dev where you have to think about how things work to make something work.

Some of the problems I've solved in my own games, I've taken the problem back to its basics and worked through the problem in a note or a spreadsheet to catch all the interactions and find an answer.  Maybe not the cleanest, but an answer that works.

Submitted

I completely agree, problem solving in terms of gamedev is always enjoyable. There's sometimes countless solutions, sometimes none, sometimes painfully obvious ones that you don't realise until somebody else points it out to you. There's plenty of creative methods you can use to reach different outcomes. Making a game is almost a game within itself...

Submitted

I'm hoping to get through as many games as possible today but here's mine if you would like to try, hope you like it :)

Just played your game. It ran a little slow on my laptop, but was playable.  I like the style and nearly endless fireballs.  The enemies charging you was a nice touch.

Submitted

Heres mine - https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2747023

Submitted

My antivirus wouldn't let me play it, I did try, sorry.

Submitted

I feel the same way, so much feedback, and so many great projects.

here is mine : https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2748002

I hope I can get through as many as possible til the and.

Submitted

Just played and rated.

Commented on your ratings page, was it tab left or tab right ??

Submitted

To everyone adding in, I'm working for now but plan to look at more games this evening.

Feel free to keep the flow going.

Submitted

This is my first game jam too! https://jaggard.itch.io/the-grayscale-defender

Submitted

Just played your game, I didn't last too long, was wondering why I was changing colour, was it health related or was I covered in goop?

Otherwise nice game and liked the cutscene.

Submitted

Yeah, you gain color as you lose health. Once you are completely colored you have lost the game. Thanks for trying it out!

Submitted

Just wanted to say good on you for wanting to check out games that specifically have a low number of ratings. That's my plan as well for the later days of the voting period - for now, I'm going through all these link-swapping topics, which I think is also a great idea =)

I've gotten some great feedback already, but here's my link if you're interested: https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2739551

I just thought, as welcoming the community has been, that there will be others like me doing their first jam and don't want them to feel like it was a wasted effort.

I've already gotten so much out of this jam and I only joined it when I knew I had something to submit. So if I can pay it forward a bit, I want to.

Submitted(+1)

Just played your game.

Interesting physics puzzle game.  Took me a little bit to figure out the controls, most of the games I've looked at so far, including my own have been move and shoot.

I could probably play it for ages figuring out each puzzle and trying to make each one work.

Submitted

Fantastic, glad you liked it! For sure, I definitely need to rework the controls and the explanations. Once I refactor the project sometime after the jam ends, these are the first and second things I'm going to look into, as this is what others have said as well. Thanks for the comment! =)

Submitted

I have been using the random button to go through as many as i can.
Here's our game if anyone is Jimterested!

https://slazare.itch.io/when-life-gives-you-lemons

Submitted(+1)

When making lemonade, you need a lot of zombies at the end of the world and a trade agreement with the Grim Reaper, not Jim, definitely not Jim.

Really liked the pixel art sprites and aesthetic, and the story.  The music fit the atmosphere and set the initial pace in my opinion, until it stopped.  I think the wider environment felt a bit empty but a fun premise, and the lemon wizard, one of my other projects I'm working on at the moment is a survival horror where the monsters are fruit and vegetables (inspired by a random moment in work where I turned a rotten pear into a mascot for the evening).

Submitted

Really glad you enjoyed it, i'm very happy with the feedback we have been getting for the art and story. The music has been an issue, i curse git for it's nonsense this jam but at least we didn't lose the game. We will be fixing a lot of things after the jam so i will add your feedback to the list thanks :). that sounds like an interesting idea for a game, is it on itchio yet or is it still a bit away from a test build?

Submitted(+1)

Still a bit away, got most of the core mechanics in place but want to remodel the Pear and add other "monsters".

Set it up so you will have 5 random level layouts, and 5 enemies, meaning you will never know which way to go or which enemy is stalking you.

It's my first real attempt at a 3D game as well, and like the other games I have made (my submission here and a santa themed 2D platformer for my niece and nephew to play at christmas) I have tried to make as much of it myself as I can.  That means all the art, the coding and the sound.

Submitted

Cool i will keep an eye out for it, good luck with the 3d aspect of it. I have mainly worked with 3d in godot and unreal and very little 2d so i'm the opposite to you :p

Submitted(+1)

At the minute I haven't really done much of either, kind of learning as I go.

Submitted

I get you completely, jams like this really help for practice and getting you out of tutorial hell as well.

Submitted

My problem is more finding the time to do much.  I have watched a lot of different tutorials, but don't think I've been stuck in tutorial hell for very long.  Generally if I'm going to do something, and I have the time, I do it.  When I made this game, I didn't use any tutorials as such, looked up a couple of things around using tools embedded in the game engine and the syntax, but the rest of it was either coded as new, or for some things taken from past attempts that did include snippets from tutorials.

Submitted

Just started going through some more.

Going to start with this list and then on to needs ratings.

Submitted

Anyone else want to post a link, just got through this list and looking for more now.

Submitted

My game Bright Darkness (story based shooter game)

I would like to know your opinion about and any suggestions you have :)

I played and rated alredy about 30 games just today! and it was fun :)

https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2740305

Submitted(+1)

I know I started the thread, but I've only gone through about 20 games, there would be more but some submissions don't seem to work for me, or they don't have all the requisite files, and there was even at least 1 I rated that no longer appears (didn't really have anything in it, left a comment and rated to reflect, now it's gone).

Yours will probably be my last for tonight as well, but I'm really enjoying this whole process.  I think I picked the right jam to start with.

Submitted

Yeah I know, right there are many problems with that, I just skip games that don't work to give chance for other games, and I played and rated 40 games so far now, it was fun, but I have to sleep haha

Submitted(+1)

Just had a look at your game, it's a fun game.  Digging around for ammo is a nice touch.

Submitted

Thanks for playing my game, I really appreciate that you like my art style, your game will be the last game I check today as well :)

Submitted (1 edit)

I'm up to 37 now, going to play some more in a bit.  Hoping to hit at least 50 by the end of the day, lots of potential in the jam.

Edit - Update to 52 games played now.  Still a few hours to go today so will probably play a few more.

Submitted

You can check out this link to see games in need of ratings: https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/unrated

Submitted

That's the list I've been using, as it's my first jam I didn't know before joining in that itch gave a filtering list for low rating games.

I think it's awesome that it exists as it allows us to try to give feedback to others that aren't known or popular - which was me 48 hours ago.

Submitted

Check out our submission,  it's not very impressive but I would appreciate some feedback https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2748834

Submitted

Just had a look at your game.

I wouldn't say it's not impressive, you submitted a game, it may need more work, but the basics are there.  You can move, you have something to do and there is a win condition.  There's a lot to work on, but if you keep going it will get there.

I liked how the king was a different character model and appeared to have an attack animation, combat wasn't the smoothest but it's there.

Submitted

Thank you for a positive feedback!

Submitted

No problem.

It's my first jam and the feedback I've had has really encouraged me to keep going with it all.  Before this last week, I wasn't sure if I would ever join a jam or feel comfortable enough in my own coding and game design to be able to upload anything.  Over the past few months I have considered joining other jams, but never felt confident enough to enter, even with this one, I didn't enter it until I knew I had something to submit.

Submitted

Another day, another load of games to play.

Just noticed that even with the few games I've looked at, I've only looked at 2% of them myself.

I think I need to make that number bigger.

Submitted

Hello Everybody, just had a look at this one, was a bit of fun. Still needs work but the gameplay was different and pretty absorbing.  It's a puzzle game where you shoot balls at spinning tops of doom to move them towards "portals".  Took a moment to figure out.

https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2747396

Submitted

As of this moment, I have played and rated 92 games.   I'm not sure if I will have time to play more over the next couple of days, but if I do, I would like to get to about 112 games (10% of submissions).

I have really enjoyed having a look around the submissions and engaging with the community.

Submitted

I've lost the count of how many games I've played XD, but I'm planning on keep playing and give feedbacks till at least the end of the game jam.

If you have time, I would like to kwow an opinion / feedback on my game:
https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2745557

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
