I love the location, and your concept is super unique! This is a challenging game, but really fun!

Played on stream and left feedback throughout the session if you wanted to watch. The pairing of location and theme works really well. I like how you worked the objective and gameplay into the single setting and had it work so well. Good job.

Developer(+1)

OK cool. Please let me know if you upload the stream.

Sure! I posted in the Discord but couldn’t find your handle to tag you.

Your game starts at 1h5m20s:

Thanks for the kind review. I will be implementing those changes if I proceed. VERY useful to see some play testing!

Happy to help!

Goodio! Stonehenge is a sick place for a game, and the alien theme really adds to it.

Pretty cool game! I liked the concept and the game play was fun. I liked having to multitask with attacking the aliens and building

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I think the multi tasking makes a basic concept a lot deeper (or feel that wat at least)

;>)

Cool game. I can see your inspiration from some stories.

Developer

Thanks.

Cool game where you have to balance objectives! Could see powerups and other shenanigans going on as this game gets built (no pun intended) :P

Developer

If anything, more puns please.

This game is tough! A fun concept though, stonehenge is a very unique location!

Developer

Thanks, I was lucky that no one else (as far as I've seen) also used Stonehenge.

Submitted(+1)

I swear I was 🤏 THIS close to using Stonehenge as my unique location as well hahaha. If you intend to build on this game, I would recommend you have the rotation controls just be A and D or the scroll wheel, and have them work on whichever block is currently picked up - it would make the controls much more intuitive!

Developer(+1)

if I make it through to round two, that's the plan :>)

Fun little clicker, definitely have potential. for more types of aliens and interactions, and maybe more monuments. Good job!

Developer

Thanks, if I get through, I'll overhaul level 1 and level 2 will be building a pyramid!

1st round: aliens destroyed me, desperately tried to protect the stones.

2nd round: bullied the alien into submission by slamming his face at the top.

The story was set with the text, not my favourite way of communicating to the player, but I really really enjoyed how you made it available for us to read if we wanted, not showing it in unskipable dialogues. +gamedev points for that!

Nice controls! Great idea! I am sure you have more on how to proceed, can't wait to see what you make, saw some nice ideas at the comments as well.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Nice work, glad you got the aliens in the end! And thanks for the positive review. You are right about the game being too text heavy, maybe a future round will have us revamp the 'world building'.

Submitted(+1)

dont get me wrong! It's a great way to show the text! It's there for the player to read, or not read if they wish. It's not stuck behind lengthy cut scenes or slow unskippable dialogue. Its a smart and respectable compromise. Getting text right in games is hard and requires a ton of gameplay testing. This is a smart solution for game jams I haven't encountered often.

You are right, who knows what are the future challenges?

It's good fun, love that you actually get to see the stone henge being built and destroyed by aliens. Would love to see the aliens move positions from time to time but love how more come in and you have to balance building with defending and attacking

Submitted(+1)

Interesting idea.  It actually gives me an idea for my own project (adding that to my game dev notebook!).  Using mouse to both move the paddles AND click the aliens might be a little much in the long run.  Typically, one button, one action is sort of the expected rule in video games (though not always the case, of course).  Just my opinion, of course.  All around, great job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks. The reason for the multiple control types is that it’s only a short game, so having to juggle different input types packs in the maximum drama. Good luck with your game.

Neat little concept, with a lot of room to build off of! I'm not sure if there was a way to and I was just missing it, but I wish I could have rotated the second block that I had control of instead of just one of them.

Developer

Sorry that this was not more clear, Left and right keys rotate stone 1. up and down keys rotate stone 2.

Submitted(+1)

Fairly simple, but an interesting pretext. Though I imagine you could only go so far with stonehenge iteslf in terms of complexity (blocking with the large rocks), I think it could be interesting if it was a game where each level was some monument with a unique challenge. Could be a party game in a way, always about defeating out those pesky aliens.

Developer(+1)

That's the idea, level 1 is Stonehenge, level 2 is Pryamids at Giza (Egypt), etc.

Submitted(+1)

Wonderful idea, unique location, whats not to like about smashing aliens

Developer

SMASH 'EM GOOD!

This was fun! I wasn’t able to rotate one of the blocking stones, but I that might have been a me problem.

I founds that spam clicking was really effective at both building up the stones and clearing out the aliens, so just going really fast made short work of things.

Developer(+1)

Sorry that this was not more clear, left and right keys rotate stone 1. Up and down keys rotate stone 2.
