Man I just love this art style so much.

I really like your artstyle, glad youre still using it :)
The hurdles event is my favourite interpretation so far. I didnt understand the third game, but I somehow got a score of 814 once when holding the button until it startes automatically. No idea how, because I couldnt replicate it and I also couldnt finish it, because I was too bad. Great game though, you did a good job.
Thanks for playing! The third is definitely the least polished, and unlike the others, you inherently just have to fail a few times before you get it right.
Given your score of 814, what actually happened for you is you discovered the little easter egg: turning the wheel all the way lets you make a U-turn instead of just a left turn. And though the U-turn is in a way harder to get without fouling, it ends up giving far fewer points because you’re closer to the correct lane (which is in part how the score is calculated). In hindsight, I could have added some visual text or indicator that helped clarify that you found something hidden.
My weird favorite thing is the lovely countdown animation. Haha nice! Love the consistent aesthetic!
I am glad we get to see a continuation of the story setup in the previous game! Once again, the hand-drawn art is amazing, I especially adore the countdown animation.
All the events are really original and feel different to each other, only the third one was kinda tricky for me to get, but still pretty fun! And in the stoplight hurdles, I would move the camera a little to the right, so the crosswalk could be seen earlier.
One thing that's easily overlooked is that I can restart the round instantly after it ends, this greatly improved my experience. Overall, this is an awesome entry!
Thanks for playing and providing the feedback! Glad you appreciated the quick restarting and option for keyboard only navigation, agreed it helps a lot to not get stuck in menus :)
It’s interesting you mention the camera position. I had a tough time deciding on the right balance there. I wanted to make sure that the light turned red only once you arrived at the intersection so that no matter how faster you got there, you would still need to come to a complete stop. That means there’s two area triggers, one for getting “near” the intersection, and another for actually entering the intersection. I didn’t want players to see they were coming up to red and basically slow to a stop too soon before they reached the first trigger. But I also get what you’re saying around giving a little more room to the right, could help.
I love that you’re sticking with the awesome hand-drawn style! The detailed stroads with the telegraph poles and street lights really add to the world. The concept of having the events taking place in a car is fantastic and creative. The stoplight hurdles was by far my favourite event because of the fun challenge and there’s a good variety in the other events too. Adding sounds would be the icing on the cake but it plays great even without them. Keep up the great work!
Great set of events! Loved how they were all according to your previous work and style! All very polished.
I also loved the progression between the three tasks.
So cool you have the time to actively work on GKDO this year! Your commitment to the rules is amazing, I should have not wasted time around with SFX either, maybe could have made a more solid game hehe
Thanks! Building on prior work has helped a ton for sure. Pretty everything for this round was made the final weekend of, I actually thought I wouldn’t have much to submit. But having many reusable parts actually meant things kind of fell together nicely. I do try to orient myself to the judging criteria, but after this round (if I somehow make it) all bets are off :D
really polished, protected left drift took me a couple of tries to really get it and it could have more events but overall really good
Once again a super unique and charming visual style. I really like all of the events, the timing on the stoplight one was really tight. The turning one was really hard to see but I managed. Super polished except for the notable exception of sound. Overall, great job!
Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the aesthetic. Pretty much the whole game was made in the last 48h and the left turn one was very last, so definitely not as refined. I also realize now I meant to drop the “qualifying” score from 200 to 175 whoops so yeah, it’s not the easiest for sure.
Re: sound, I totally agree - I decided to bet on a higher score via adding in that last left turn event.
Fun games, the turning one took me like five tries. Loved the art style and I think sound would have helped a lot, but this is a really fun game.
I will never get a driving licence :D :D :D
My favourite implementation of hurdles event so far!
