How does your game fit the theme?
Toggle Arena is an arena-based bullet hell survival game where you must fight off hordes of enemies as long as you can. The catch is, the arena will toggle different settings on and off every so often; making the abilities you have, the weapons you have, how you combat enemies and the arena you fight in all 'out of your control'. One minute you could be shooting your way through enemies using a shotgun, the next minute the controls have been reversed. With over 25 different toggles, Toggle Arena not only gets more difficult as the game goes on, but as you adapt to the new rules and circumstances the arena throws at you.

That's a lot of content for a jam game. Well executed too. I had fun playing this, good job.

Well done! I had fun playing it and it's well put together!

Feels very good to play - the sounds, lights, and controls worked very nicely together. Of all the "rules change randomly" games from this game jam I've played, yours is easily one of the best. Very polished and fun!

I had alot of fun playing this game! Music and visuals came together nicely and the randomized hazards are a cool addition.

Fun and well polished game, nice work! The toggles kept it engaging by forcing you to adapt your play style to match them. Sometimes the toggle change delay felt a bit long, but generally great job.

I think this idea would be improved by making the toggle speed faster, not choosing normal as a toggle option, and making sure the new toggle is different than the current one.

I just miss some dash system to save me of the death.

I will love if you could play my game!

Fun little shooter with a TON of different toggles(/content)! The major feedback I have is that the font is a bit hard to read and the instructions tab has too much to read - I skimmed over it, and decided to hop into the game instead - I don't want to be stuck reading for a couple minutes! I'd rather be getting a pointed summary of your mechanics rather than a story trying to hype me up - I'm already in your game, after all, I want to know what to do, not how it's going to feel or how exciting it's going to be.

I would've liked an option to turn off the screen shake, it was too intense for me to play comfortably.

That being said, the graphics are quite elegant and the gameplay flows very well, it gets quite hectic later on! Well done.

Gameplay feels nice and the weapons feel powerful, so great job there.

Very easy to pick up and play for a few rounds as well, I can imagine the skill ceiling of this game being quite high when you make good use of both the sprint and the current toggle.

I'd personally have made the time between toggles a bit shorter to further lean into the chaotic and out-of-control nature of the game.

All in all great little game.

I sadly can't rate yet since I haven't completed my rating queue, but I'll leave a rating once I'm able to.

Edit: I have finished my queue, consider your game rated.

Wow this was super exciting!  I really like toggle mechanic that puts you in other cool modes!  This idea is clever, you should keep working on it!  Great job submitting to the jam, and I hope you learned a lot of new things and had fun making this cool bullet hell twist!  If you have time, please check out my entry :D

Very cool looking game :D

It's polished, has a good art style and it's also fun to play. Really well done mate!

The feeling playing this game is so great! I love the sense of emergency it has and how it keeps you constantly interested by changing the weapon you use! It's amazingly juicy and satisfying.

My main issue was that I was unable to keep track of my lifebar while playing, my deaths often felt like they came out of nowhere due to this lack of feedback.

Developer

Yes the lack of feedback is something I only realised after the deadline and is something I aim to improve on after the jam. Thanks for playing and giving feedback!

Fun arena style game, and is well polished for a jam game. I thought it could fit the theme a bit more, only a few of the toggles felt like "out of control". Maybe you could have added a mechanic that the more health your'e missing the faster the toggles go? Or the longer you play for?

Developer

Yes I feel the tie to the theme of the jam could've been stronger had I had made toggles that affected the player's ability to control combat and arena traversal. The idea was that you had no control over your weapons, abilities and how you combat enemies, nor did you have any control as to when these toggles triggered but I realise now I could've done more to make the game fit more to the theme. Thanks for the feedback!

Very nice game! Super clean presentation and the controls felt pretty good!

It would be nice to have a bit more feedback when you lose life/an enemy hits you. But overall I had great fun! :)

Developer

Yeah I agree there should've been more feedback when getting hit by enemies. During testing I felt that it was enough but after building the final version of the game I only realised that the feedback was not that noticeable only after the deadline. Thanks for playing!

Really fun! I'd like if, as a player, you could choose how quickly the toggles happen (Like a "Chaos" mode or something) and I'd love to play this game with controller. It actually allowed me to move with the controller, so I used the joy stick while using the mouse to shoot. It just feels better for me that way!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! Yeah I thought about adding controller support but was too exhausted and didn't end up doing so. Surprised that for some reason it allowed for controller input. Thanks again! Also that idea about having a chaos mode would be a good addition to the game, thanks for the tip!
