Sprawl is a game set in a dystopian future where society collapsed under the pressure of overpopulation, meant as a warning tale to mankind about the dangers of... Nah just kidding, it's a very chill game about managing buildings, I like how the pace slowly build up so the player can feel the pressure as the game goes on, a very interesting concept masterfully executed.
Ha! Thanks for the kind words :D
I like how the game looks and how it starts off innocently before descending into panic. One issue I had was that it was hard to click buildings behind the really tall ones.
Art style is lovely, the music is laid back and kind of soothing, and the gameplay reminds me very much of 2048; just as satisfying to merge buildings together and see a clean area again. Much more stressful than 2048 though (which is great here given the theme).
Love the idea too; very unique! Overall a really awesome game!
Really fab cohesive and clean experience that I'm highly impressed was managed in 48hrs! Lovely design and feels like a nice twist on a classic that I remember playing in the form of Triple Town :D After all the Chaotic games it was nice to see zen mode as an option as well - I wouldn't mind that being a staple in games tbh!
Thanks! i (3d modeler) was a big fan of Triple Town so it may have definitely been an influence on game feel. Glad you enjoyed it!
found it interesting how this basically reflects real life - nice job!
Satisfying animations, satisfying gameplay, and the challenge mode only had a little hint of stress (enough to keep me going) - perfect balance! Love how you put the zen mode on too.
This is probably because I'm using a touchpad like a scrub but I would have personally preferred a click-then-click method to merge instead of a drag. That's entirely personal though and doesn't affect my opinion of this great game!
Thanks for the feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the game :)
We hadn't really considerer click-click to merge. It would be hard to fit into the current game as you might want to click two adjacent tiles to level them up. But this is a nice suggestion to improve accessibility. We'll have to put some thought into how best to achieve this in future... Maybe an option to change the control scheme for those who struggle with dragging (or only have a trackpad!).
Thanks again!
Awesome game, really addicting as well!
Really enjoyed this one. Love the idea, and your execution of the growing/merging mechanic. The difficulty in the challenge mode felt like it had a decent curve to it, which is always super impressive.
Some small notes, incase you're looking to update the game:
I'm not entirely sure what you could do to help the control issue. Allowing camera rotation maybe? The top view helps, but I found myself not wanting to use it, because the isometric view just felt better to look at.
I loved seeing the new building types as I managed to reach a new highpoint, and the chill music and the pop-up sounds were lovely to have in the background as well.
"Zen mode" quickly became Out Of Control as well...
I love the simplicity of the start, everything is nice and quiet... and then BOOM!
Rapid colonization!
I am amazed with all these games like yours that become so addictive! Solid gameplay! Good luck!
It's fun, but towards the end it's difficult to see. What is the highest score possible? I got like 409600
You can always zoom out to go top-down and see everything more clearly :)
In Zen mode the score doesn't mean too much, but the highest you can get is the score you got (409600). Thanks for playing the game for so long! :D
In challenge mode, the highest possible score is 173056, but that's probably not really achievable. The highest score we've seen so far is 23,641!
It’s really great, I loved it ! The art is perfect and the game is well put together. Congrats, it’s amazing !
What a cool game! I really like the progression - starting small and tidy, then everything gets huge and crazy :). It's a bit hard to manipulate with buildings behind the tall ones. Other than that, very nicely done!
A city builder for this theme! Never thought I'd see this. I'm pleasantly surprised though. The music and graphics are great. It's almost like a more chaotic version of 2048.
This game was such a joyful time waster! The music was great, and while I wanted ton continue moving around the buildings and merging them, it was just as zen to chill out and watch it grow! Great job!
I grew a pretty big city. It was pretty zen.
Thanks!
This is really fun, it's smooth and great, colors are handled well so I wouldn't confuse too much. The only downside is blocked buildings seem hard to navigate, probably require camera rotation. But overall it's amazing! Good job!
Thanks! Camera rotation is something we're definitely adding after the jam. We hoped the zoom out into top-down would work well enough but a lot of people have struggled when bigger buildings block their view. Thanks for the feedback!
you did it, you've awakened my merging addiction. PLEASE port this to mobile! AWESOME GAME
This is, without a doubt, a game that I would play on the mobile device: simple, relaxing yet engaging, and just entertaining. I was also surprised to find out that the game is already quite balanced and doesn’t seem to be unnecessarily too random/crazy/out of control. I liked the game!
Thank you! it really does play like a mobile game and we're glad that people are feeling the relaxed vibe to the game.
Super addicting fun little game! Freat idea and well executed! And the music is really relaxing too :) Only complaint is that I couldn't rotate my camera and it is really hard to see whats going on, once the buildings get bigger
Amazing submission though!
When you zoom out the camera goes more top-down, so you can see behind big buildings. Thanks for the feedback though, we have some ideas to fix this after the jam (including camera rotation)!
Great idea and a well executed single mechanic! I would like to see more motivation added to creating new buildings and adding to the chaos, as it seems like the optimal strategy for points would be to let everything expand as slow as possible. Only played zen mode so maybe that is addressed in the challenge mode. Good job!
Thanks for the kind words!
The zen mode isn't meant to need any strategy, just some chill vibes with a bouncy growing city.
The challenge mode is where strategy becomes important. There you need to control the growth much more carefully so that the city doesn't sprawl out of bounds.
