I have always been interested in learning more about flock simulation so this caught my eye. The low-poly visuals and the simple, soothing sound is really nice and fits the gameplay pretty well. The birds feel pretty natural in how they form a flock - it doesn't feel gamey or artificial but at the same time it feels responsive enough which seems like a hard balance to get. I feel like that's a hard thing to notice but it's probably one of the most impressive things to me :).
The only thing that holds this game back is for me personally the game lacks purpose / a goal. This game takes the endless mode approach, so the satisfaction has to come from the inherent satisfaction that comes from maintaining and growing the flock. I would compare it to agar.io but less stressful. I could see a lot of people enjoying this as a tranquil endless game to blow off steam. But for me, some kinds of in level goals, enemies, or a level-based game that used the same mechanic would be a lot more satisfying. So there is nothing wrong with what you have here, I just think I am not in your target audience :).
Overall though, this is a fantastic submission for a 48 hour game jam and I think you should continue working on it. You could keep the design as is and just add more to it and keep catering to the tranquil-loving audience, or you could make it more level-based or slightly more stressful gameplay, and I could see it being successful either way.
I would love to have your rating / comments on my game as well, so I can know what to improve.
Overall I mostly agree with your feedback but we sadly just didn't have nearly enough time to make it a level based approach mainly because we were 2 programmers and there is only so much time in the day if you still want to sleep and eat and the flock simulation as well as the enemy spawning took most of the time. Nevertheless thanks a lot for the nice and detailed feedback. I will definitely check out your game as well :D.
the dark souls of causal bird games. lol loved the visuals and the idea. thought it was a great use of the theme. great work
Thanks a lot for the nice feedback having such a talented team really helped and the visuals really fit well together in the low poly art style :D.
This is amazing!!! I really really love how the game feels sort of never-ending with the camera pulling out when you're all out of birds and then pulling back in without having to cut to a new scene. It's really seamless! And the flock AI is so believable!! Excellent work all around
The camera zooming out and back in was more or less an unintentional bug from the cinemachine camera and using target groups, but it works surprisingly well.
For the flock AI we used a really good tutorial from Sebastian Lague on Boids as a base and our 2nd programmer did a really good job on adapting and adjusting it for our specific use case. Overall I'm really happy with the result and thanks for giving such nice feedback :D.
Unbelievably, this game gave me both relax and thrill. Great!
Thanks a lot the music really helps the chill atmosphere and the movement of the birds really aids the thrill especially because you want to keep your birds alive to achieve a high score :D.
Relaxing & pleasing, with very good graphics ! 5/5
Thanks a lot our whole team has done an amazing job and especially the music makes the game just that much more relaxing and the models were really well made especially for the given time. Really nice to hear you've enjoyed it so much :D.
Fun game, I really enjoyed how the movement felt , especially when moving the mouse in a circular motion.
Thanks a lot. Yeah seeing the birds move is definetly the most satisfying part about the game :D.
Very interestinc concept of flock system, nice game for relaxing!
Thanks a lot the amazing soundtrack made by our musician really helps the chill atmosphere.
Really good game! Love it. Also the fact, that you can't stand still, since they increase the radius is great! Good job, very fun game.
Thanks a lot for your kind words :D.
I love birds! This flock mechanic was really enjoyable, great job!
Thanks a lot our whole team is proud of our end product and it's amazing to hear so many kind comments from other participants.
Nice execution on an already cool concept! While it's a bit easy to find a dominant strategy (got up to 50+ birbs the 2nd time around), it did hook me for a good while and it's a neat time-killer.
Oh shit 50+, you beat my 38, I’m pretty sure you’re the overall record holder now!
Only fitting that it’s someone who made another birb flock game :P
Thanks for the comment! <3
Like birds of a feather! <3
Very nice presented game. I like the movements of the birds a lot. A less zeppelins and maybe some hints where they appear and it would be a very relaxing experience. It could be extended to fly through some generated landscape making it visually very appealing and even more relaxing.
Thanks for the feedback after hearing some of it, I think less zeppelins and more ballons might have helped to make it easier and perhaps some indicators on where they are coming from might have benn nice too. Nevertheless nice to hear that you've enjoyed it.
That was a fine game! I think more clouds would be great to predict where are the balloon going. I really like the sounds overall, and the birds behavior even if a bit too chaotic was cool to look at.
PS: My high score is 15
I TRIEDThe birds are really hard to control if you move to rapid you have to turn in big curves to keep them together and thx for your kind feedback.
The flock movement looks really great and the art style is clean aswell. nice game!
Thanks a lot. I'm really happy to hear you've enjoyed it :D
Super relaxing. Props to the one that designed the shadows on the clouds really helpful for predicting the balloons. Good job !
I was actually messing around with the lighting hours before the deadline, and was very close to making it come from a very different angle, now I’m glad I didn’t! What a nice unintentional design idea :DThanks! It was a very smart feature that we intended from the very beginning, I’m glad our big brains are being appreciated :)
Thank you so much! I had a blast making the track.
My personal high score is 38, which I believe is the highest between the team on this build of the game :)
relaxing music and a wonderful game
Thanks for the kind words! <3
Loved the music, this game gives a very calm vibe, i enjoyed it alot. Congraulations!
I’m glad you had fun :D
Music fits well with the game! Art style is amazing.
Thank you so much!!
I LOVE the low poly art style! And however you did the birds flying around the mouse, the AI is great! Good job all around!
I didn’t do the coding, but the birds used a boid algorithm! There’s a really great video about it.
I wondered if anyone else would do flocking considering the theme! I like how chilled out this is despite also being challenging.
Ha, maybe it’s not as original as I thought :D Your take on it is great, we seem to have gone in very different directions with the same base idea.
