The game doesn't seem to work in Firefox; the background is black and the tombstones vibrate wildly around the screen.
oh ... thats a first. You can use the native version for windows or linux (whichever you have), to play the game.
Which OS and firefox version did you use?
This was with the latest version of Firefox on Windows 8. It might have been caused by one of the four ad blockers I have, though. I switched to Chrome and it ran fine.
I like the idea of returning them two there graves rather than fight them. And if you had fun making it I'd recommend continuing to develop it further. I got to level 5 but one grave stone didn't spawn or I couldn't find it.
One thing I'd suggest is something to prevent zombies from grouping as it makes it trivial to avoid them. I was able to complete every level without dropping the stones since I just kept my distance from the mob.
I had to refresh the first time because it froze when I tried to put the tomb stone on the grave, but after the first hiccup it was pretty fun to play! I like that you have to put the headstones back on their original graves. <3
This was surprisingly fun! I liked the animations of throwing the tombstones around the map, and I like how you flashed which grave was the correct one to put the grave on. It would be interesting to play with this idea in a higher resolution where you have to match what the names are or something!
I did hit a couple bugs where the zombie definitely hit me, but instead of dying I just slowed down to barely a crawl. This usually happened around corners of tombstones, and once my sprite broke free, it was like nothing had happened.
Interesting take on the typical zombie mechanic I'd love to see a more polished version of this in the future well done!
Nice job! The tombstone mechanic with the chasing zombies was interesting to manage and I loved the sound effects as well. Overall this was a great entry to the jam and I had fun playing! :)
I liked the uniqueness of this game! It is different from every other submission (like a breath of fresh air) and has a fun and relaxing gameplay loop. If you truly wanted, you could make this a full-fledged game with different zombie types. Well done :D
Very creative take on the theme. I like the concept, makes for a fun game. I love to see it get expanded should you continue development, maybe add obstacles or other things in the map, to give player richer gameplay experience, I think you can do a lot with this. Good job! :)
Fun game, I love the interesting take on the theme, and you completely nailed the gameplay.
This was a really interesting interpretation on the theme, I don't think I've seen anything similar to this yet. Your graphics are simple and it was easy to see what was happening on screen, and the controls were pretty straightforward and I understood how the game worked pretty quickly. The sound effects are funny as well, although maybe next time make sure that the sounds play through both headphones, I got quite some chills from that haha.
Only thing with controls though is that I never really found a need to use the spacebar to drop a gravestone, I more or less just found a random stone, picked it up, and dropped it off. It would be nice to have a need to use the spacebar (For example, puzzles where the gravestone has to be dropped before entering and unlocking a passage). Also, for some reason when a zombie is entering the grave and not chasing the player, the player can still collide with it and trigger a game over, which is a little bit troublesome (And resetting the entire game when getting hit was a bit frustrating too).
Overall, I still really like this entry, and I would want to see a more polished, expanded version of this in the future as well!
Thanks for your detailed comment! I agree with all points, there is potential for more fun and improvement in the game apparently and I am happy to see this in the comments, too.
The undead become 10% quicker with each closed graves so starting with level 4 or 5 they get as fast as 120% of the players speed. Then you might have to drop a stone in order to escape them.
Returning undead should be harmless, that's right ... that is an idea I had minutes before the deadline ...
Cool take on the theme! As I think other people have mentioned, it's definitely not ideal to restart from the beginning of the game. It also would be cool to see more variation in how the zombies chase/interact with you, which might create ways to level up the difficulty beyond increasing the number of zombies/graves.
Yes, one can extend the basic idea and it would keep the game interesting to play for quite a while. Thanks for playing it!
Interesting take on the theme! The game was a little simple though, maybe post-jam there could be extra additions like different zombie types or unique level layouts. Lots of potential!
really nice.
I swapped to speakers from headphones since the recorded zombie sounds are only on the left side
but as others said I really enjoy this unique way to deal with zombies
Great work!
Glad you liked it! Thinking about it, DwarfFortress' way to deal with ghosts (one has to engrave a tombstone and place it somewhere to put them to rest) might have inspired me. Why all the killing if there is another way?
Sorry for the audio, they _should_ be positional and relative to the undeads position - a bug then.
I really liked that you found a nonviolent way to deal with zombies! ^_^ The number of graves went up very fast, which was nice in that it filled up the screen after a few levels, but it caused me to have to start off kiting so I would not be surrounded, and then it seemed the number did not matter since they were all clumped up. I liked the way the zombies would overshoot the player (I think they got faster over time?) and then course correct, their movement felt very undead.
Thank you very much for this comment. I am glad you enjoyed it! Yes, they become faster with each closed grave up to 120% of the players speed.
Great work! You delivered a fully playable game within only two days, and solo! That's worth being proud of. Also I loved the zombie sounds lol
Yeah, as others have pointed out, restarting from the current level would be better, but other then that, the game is fun, good job :)
Fun game! It was slightly frustrating that it didn't reset me at the current level when I died, but aside from that I enjoyed it.
Thank you for your feedback!
Having to start over can be frustrating, that is a permadeath aspect of the game. In future versions with something like experience points, other monsters and scenarios, restarting at the current level seems to be a good idea.
Very cool game! I would suggest creating the maps a little bit smaller since most of the time the player is walking without many challenges (usually the peak to avoid zombies are near the rocks and near the holes, not on the trajectory). I think it's a nice concept that can be expanded with the addition of different obstacles and stuff that challenges the player to avoid. Congratulations!
Interesting Idea. Would love to see some more variety / challenge in the gameplay, but a fun start. Would be really fun to see some animations added. I also got a kick out of the sound effects.
