The first play I was not careful and stabbed my way into slaughter by black bishop, but on second try I managed to beat the game. It was fun trying to find ways to eliminate both white and black pieces while completely avoiding opponent's queen. The AI had in my opinion a perfect difficulty such that it was not purely random but did not pose an impossible challenge for someone only vaguely familiar with chess. I think this is where the game could be improved furthermore. Having more "difficulties" could be interesting. The game felt nice, clean and polished and I did not encounter any bugs or issues. I also really liked the intro scene which explained the story behind the game. Overall, good job!
I don't normally play a lot of Chess games, but I enjoyed this a bunch! And I liked that the enemy Queen seemed to be working with the player (not usually taking the aggressive moves).
Goodluck in the jam!
Played on stream! See the video for timestamp.
Super cool idea, executed really well! It's fun, but also makes you think once it becomes nighttime. Definitely an exciting twist on chess, and a really interesting interpretation of the theme! The intro was a nice touch, and everything was nicely polished! Good job!
This was a solid submission for sure. Nice effort and great take on the theme with a little narrative for uniqueness!
This is the most interesting twist on an existing idea I've seen so far in this jam.
5/5
This just reminded me I'm not great at chess anymore lmao. Loved it though, great idea and great execution. Honestly no feedback, I just need to be better at chess.
Very interesting game and fun to play!
The graphics are well made and the sounds are pretty satisfying. All in all, a neat little game!
i beat this first try.
I was expecting this to be a walk in the park, but it was actually really hard! I really loved the thud sound when you placed pieces, it felt very satisfying.
Great work! fun game
The intro cutscene was a wonderful setup and the game is a very fun and imaginative spin on chess
I like chess and this is a cool spin that actually makes you think and manage risk/reward
Cute take on the classic chess, the cutscene at the start was very well made and i like the graphics all around! good job :)
I liked this a lot. The opening cutscene and blood splatters for dead pieces are particularly nice touches. The risk-reward of trying to kill as many of your own pieces as you can without losing so many that you can't also take all the black pieces is very fun.
That the black queen will happily kill the white king is kinda funny and can make the endgame a bit tricky, though the AI seems a bit random in how aggressive it is.
A small UI thing, the "possible moves" highlights don't show enemy pieces you can take, I didn't realise the king has the queen's moveset at night initially because of this.
Honestly my favorite game I've played so far. Super original and funny.
Interesting take on chess. The strategy behind killing my own pieces but still having to kill theirs was fun to balance.
Very unique spin on classic chess, nice use of the theme. Taking pieces and killing my own guys was very satisfying
Nice idea! Great opening cutscene which explains the changed rules and character motivation of this very familiar basic game.
