Really liked the idea. I think the one thing holding the game back is that it was hard to control the security guards to react exactly how you wanted them to, while the robber was really fast so it didn't give you time to fiddle with positioning.
I think one thing that could have helped you is to separate the movement from turning, if you could give the guards a position, and then separately tell them which way to face, it could have made giving them exact orders a lot more fluent.
Anyway I enjoyed the game would love to see what you'll do with it with more levels and a tiny bit more polish!
Pretty neat concept, definitely could use more time to flesh out the controls and gameplay loop, but a solid base for sure. Definitely needs some more challenging levels too.
Really liked the idea of controlling the guards instead of the player!
Love the visual style and the details with voice acting and SFX. The guards are very slow, but the gameplay was the right level of challenge.
Very well made! Fun idea with a good execution. Art and music really sets the moods. I like the guards voice acting. They do feel like they are really bad at their job, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It does create a fun, but sometimes somewhat frustrating, challenge.
They are bad at their job aren't they. Ultimately, the thief will run away from the guards, so it's really just about cornering him.
This was excellent. Well done.
nice implementation of the theme, the mood of the game was great too . nice work overall!
Phenomenal idea.
Well executed, clearly presented and hook is obvious immediately.
Could be expanded upon to work as a commercial game, if you ask me.
Some specific feedback:
- It would have been nicer if the levels don't start immediately but after a "start" button so the player has some time to orient themself, but arguably that's polish nitpicking.
- The thief was still a little too hard to see on cameras in my opinion.
- I expected the guards to follow a path I would draw for them, not the shortest path available between them and my cursor. I don't know if that's a design decision or consequence of programming limitations. I think if you decide to take this game anywhere in future the appeal would lie in the puzzle aspect, and for me that would work best if I can draw little routes for my guys to patrol. (If that makes it too easy, perhaps they can be distracted by sound, too.)
Thanks for the thoughts! Yeah, agree with all of your points! I think if we get back to this we'd do all of those things. The pathing thing was purely a time thing. Easier to ask A* for a path than deal with all the edge cases of drawing. But I agree, being able to creatively draw paths would be better. At least... I think?
There's a lot of potential for a setup phase. Kinda thinking it shouldn't even be timed... Maybe you can even place the cameras too. You just get a pile of guards, cameras (and other implements) and do your best to secure the facility ahead of the eventual breakin.
It's been a fun game to work on and we're glad you liked it!
The art style is cool. Especially combined with the movement system, it reminded me of Frozen Synapse. I got a little frustrated with the way the guards kept missing their shots or would let the intruder run past them without taking a shot. I think with a bit more time and polish this could be really fun!
Wonderful art execution and the creative approach here to the theme is what makes this game great! This is wonderful!
Great job on your work! I love the color theme and game concept - quite creative.
However, I would appreciate more features and possibilities as I have reached a point where I need more than the current ones.
I had more fun with this than I thought I would. the levels were pretty well designed and difficulty curve was mostly fair. The presentation was pretty spot on. With more than 48hrs of dev and polish this could be really special! Only gripe was the guards shooting was a bit annoying. Slightly faster shooting might would help with this. Great job was a pleasure to play! Keep it up!
Really liked this, good choice of the green screen. Would love to be able to train the guards, they shoot like stormtroopers! I had a not too dissimilar idea for a game recently, so I definitely think you're onto something! Best of luck for the jam!
This is really good! Love the mood of the game. Also it's super satisfying to draw a path for your guards. And the feeling when you finally corner the thief is great.
Now THIS is an interesting concept, playing detective trying to figure where the intruder is hiding is fun, having the extra stress of babysitting the guards adds tension on top of that. And the entire game has such a mood, the atmosphere is perfect, love the sound effects.
Only issues is that is hard to keep track of the guards in the later levels, particularly what direction will they look when they get to the target location, and the cameras are hard to use effectively, biggest issue with the is that it isn't clear what camera you are looking at
Also half the time you win by accident but that is probably by the nature of trying to catch someone sneaking
This was actually really cool! Surprisingly polished, and the route planning feel very good. More levels, and maybe some twists (different guard types, more bandits, etc). An extended post-jam version would be great
Nice game, fun mechanic , smart levels solid presentation gg
Nice idea, very polished graphics and gameplay. Loved this! Nice job.
amazing presentation!! i think this is a solid concept for a game, and it was executed fairly well! im wondering if maybe the AI for the intruder is too smart, i managed to block off all the gems and i just never saw the intruder, maybe they could be less intelligent to give the player a chance to catch them?
managing this sort of system is very fun though! and its almost like a double role reversal, since you are neither the intruder nor the guard, but the dispatcher or something
and again, the graphics are incredible, stunning job!
