lol the mario jump sound.
Pretty cool concept. Adds a lot of depth to puzzle solving. Perhaps if no checkpoint system, just save the position of objects around a puzzle/hurdle. Forcing a player to redo a puzzle is just tedious, will make players have negative thoughts about the game. (This is of course ignoring time constraint and just a comment about the game if in the future).
Does the camera purposefully lag behind? I don't like not being able to see where I'm going, unless the goal is to slow the player down/make them cautious. Also your collision rects seem a bit off for some objects? Interesting that objects die if they hit spikes, not sure how I feel about that. I tried to put a block over a spike so I didn't hit it lol.
Cool game. I think you could definitely work on this post jam, pump out some nice little assets and polish and it'll be a quality platformer.
Edit: also it would be cool if the different objects you control, control differently. Would make it feel like you're really controlling different things and make the game feel less same-y
Thanks for the feedback! I'm sorry about the bugs and unpolished features. I have started working on the post jam version which hopefully is gonna be a massive improvement and fix most problems.
Very creative take on the theme. If you polish this a bit more it will make for a lovely platformer :)
Thanks a lot!
What a lovely game! The core mechanics is solid and lands itself to some compelling puzzles. Some checkpoints mid level would have been nice, but I enjoyed my time with the game regardless.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback!
Pretty fun but unfortunately you fall forever if you fall off the map.
Thanks! I didn't have time to polish the game lol.
This is a fun idea :) Took me a while to get past the first double spike area (before building the staircase), but I got better as I retried. Adding a keyboard shortcut on the title screen to play the game would make those restarts feel quicker to get into.
Jump currently feels a bit awkward, but maybe even just a few milliseconds of no y/vertical change might help it feel a bit smoother and give us those vital extra 5 pixels or so to clear what are probably supposed to be easy intro jumps? Or, just slightly thinner hitboxes on the spikes to give us a tiny bit of grace for imperfect timing.
Enjoyed it and would happily play more if you're thinking of working on it post jam :)
Thank you so much! I'm sorry for some of the difficulty, I was planning to decrease the spike's hitbox but ran out of time. I made the jump weak on purpose so players would have to rely on tiles to jump over things but I should definitely rework that now that I see people don't like it.
Cool idea. I found it a little hard to control. Otherwise, Good job
Thanks for playing!
I like the mechanic in this, it's very creative. I wasn't able to get past the long row of spikes (I'm not sure how long since it stretched off-screen) in the snow area, though. I think the game would also be a lot more pleasant to play if the jump used proper momentum, since it's quite sudden and jolty right now. Nice work on this overall! It definitely has some potential you could expand on post-jam.
Thanks a lot for the feedback! To get past the row of spikes you have to build a staircase with the tiles nearby over it then jump from the top to skip all the spikes, though this is the unintended way since the tiles were meant to be used as a cover on top of the spikes but there happened to be a bug that makes tiles die on touch with spikes.
fun game. love the idea but kinda can get in the way instead of adding to it. Guess some tweaking. Controls need tightening. Really like how it is pretty intuitive though. You cab pick up what needs to be done quickly and just have some fun. Even when frustrated by starting over :)
Thanks for the feedback!
Game has a good potential, if you plan to expand after the jam
Thank you so much!
The idea of the game is really cool, but the execution is a bit lacking, which makes the game frustrating to play. First of all, the jump is a bit sudden, and you fall off everything almost instantly. Additionaly, the spikes are somewhat hard to see among all of the background element, so they were the cause for a lot of sudden deaths. Nontheless, good job!
Thanks for the feedback! I'm sorry about the unpolished parts of the game. The little time and the fact that I was just using a language instead of an engine made it impossible to polish the game further. I'll try to improve next time!
Really great idea! I think there is a lot of fun things you could do with switching between objects. 2 things that I think would make it more enjoyable to play: The camera should show you further ahead of where you are going so that you can anticipate obstacles, and the hit box on the spikes should be smaller. Otherwise, really cool game and I hope you take it farther!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the experience!
Thanks for playing!
Neat idea, execution could use some work. The platforming physics and collisions are a bit jank, but that stuff is pretty hard to get right. It's also a bit unclear how things work at the beginning, a little more could be done to demonstrate to the player how the mechanic works. The sign pointing to the pile of blocks is a good step toward that but it needs a little more. Anyway I think the idea is cool and has potential, don't want to be discouraging or anything. Keep at it and you can make it better!
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Hi, nice idea, but very hard without a tutorial. Also maybe have lives, and also avoid objects dying from spikes, that makes it very very hard to progress.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm sorry for the difficulty. Objects dying from spikes is a bug that was unintended. The game was actually supposed to be much easier.
Fun idea! Super tough though, or maybe I'm just bad. I didn't manage to make it very far - implementing checkpoints would be a good idea! Feels very punishing to be sent back all the way to the main menu. Stil fun though, nice work!
Thanks for the feedback! Don't worry you're not bad, it's just that the game is difficult unintentionally because of bugs (objects can die by spikes) and lack of polish because of the little time (big spike hitboxes).
Good concept. I feel like some improvements could be made to the character controls. I also think that maybe a health system would work better than the game restarting every time the player takes damage.
Thanks for the feedback! I didn't have enough time to polish and add extra features but maybe after the jam ends.
I really liked it! The only things I would change is the robot since it doesn’t fit well with the scene as well as add checkpoints but all in all, Well Done!
Thanks for the feedback!
Pretty unique game! would be nice if there were some checkpoints, especially before the snow area (this thing is hard!). Being able to switch to almost every tile would be so cool, with each one having some different abilities. Good job!
Thanks! I didn't add any checkpoints because the game was supposed to be easy, but after submitting I realized there were some major bugs like restarting the game when you touch a spike as an object. I had plans for adding tiles with unique abilities but I had ran out of time. Though, if I ever come back to the game I'll make sure to add that and also increase the amount of tiles you can switch to.
this is a cool concept for a game, but i wasn't able to finish the game. there aren't any checkpoints (at least any that i saw) and it was too frustrating to get past the snow area. also, there was a bug where if you send a box too far to the right, the camera doesn't go back to your character when you reset, so i couldn't see where i was going. that said, this concept is pretty unique and it has a lot of potential with a little more polish
Thanks for the amazing criticism! I didn't add any checkpoints because the game was supposed to be easy, but after submitting I realized there were some major bugs like restarting the game when you touch a spike as an object. The camera bug I knew about too but I had to ignore it to make sure other important features get added before the time ends.
Good effort! The game feels a little unforgiving with the spike hitboxes, but overall it looks pretty cute. I get it though, platformers are hard to code. With a bit more time this could be wonderful.
Here are a few things I’d like to see in the game, if you plan to work more on it afterward:
Thank you so much! I'm sorry for how hard the game turned out. The spikes' hitboxes definitely need to be smaller. The whole tiles dying and restarting the game when you touch the spike was a bug. The tiles were supposed to be used to go on top the spikes so the player can avoid the spikes easily. I really like your idea about switching with almost any object, I'll certainly add that and also special objects that have cool features of their own if I continue to work on the game.
